I love that stretch. In a pinch like if I’m at work, I’ll use a wall instead of the floor. It’s not as deep a stretch that way, but still works some.

Definitely following this one. What are you studying?
I have been studying vocal performance and american sign language for 4 years at cwu

Great singing!

Hi ben,

great lifting again. I have a few questions for you:

I know you said you followed a heavily modified 5-3-1 and sheiko. Can you comment on the pluses and minuses of each system for you?

Did you have a specific rotation of Sheiko workouts you liked?

I have done 5-3-1 for 2 years and it seems to help my squat and deadlift alot but increases my bench very slowly.

Awesome lifts! I’ll definitely be following this thread. You seem to know exactly how to train and make progress. When you were stuck with that 675 deadlift, what did you do differently to get out of that rut and what did you learn that wasn’t working?

Lot stronger than me, but that was pretty funny.
Good on you to shrug it off and have a laugh about it.

The dumbbell fail was definitely good TV!

I would like to support your efforts by “liking” your vids, but I’m (technology challenged) not quite sure how to do it?

I have the same problems with DB work

Bump.

Ben, did you stop posting in your training log here?

I think he’s given up on lifting in favour of crocheting.

He’s probably just busy with the school year starting…if he’s still in college. I don’t know, doesn’t matter.

Insanely amazing lifts. Motivates me to get my squat and DL numbers up.

Sounds like he is vusy with school and RA’ing. Posted on youtube yersterday.

Nice work! As for the morning workouts, are you drinking coffee to wake yourself up? I occasionally do 6am workouts before work and find that those are some of my most productive workouts. Maybe it’s because I drink one or two espresso shots and a 100mg caffeine pill before working out lol. It might depend on your stress levels because I found it to be a bitch working out during the mornings when I was still in school. Keep up the good work! You’ll get used to the morning sessions.

back after a long break from posting just gonna jump back into the commentaries

Hey Ben,

Beastly workout, and I enjoyed the commentary.

I do have one question for you.

I’ve followed your youtube videos, and I remember a while ago, you squatted fairly wide and didn’t dunk them the way you do now. I really like your form now.

What made you switch it up? what challenges did this present? did you find your numbers dropped?

Thanks in advance

Part of the progression has just been natural and getting a bit more comfortable and more mobile. the other cause of the change is that I am aiming at a usapl meet for my next competition and the dunk is necessary haha Challenges were most getting over the ego drop that comes with moving less weight, squatting the way I do now is technically less efficient and therefore requires a greater strength reservoir so that has been tough haha

Hey Ben,

a couple more questions if you have the time.

Have you ever considered weightlifting shoes to squat in?

Did you find before that you were getting below parallel depth? or just to 90?

Thanks again

Thanks again
I’ve tried lifting in them and just prefer the feel of my chucks for my squats, and I think my mobility has really improved now regardless of stance so before I would hit 90 and struggle to get below and now I can get below pretty consistently no matter where I put my feet
