I get to where I just can’t sleep. Sometimes stress bullshit, and sometimes I did not have the time to put a good work out in, and I feel guilty. I look at the clock and it is 9:30-10:00 and I think yeah a halgf hour I can get more squats in or what ever some time I do push ups.
I have heard that it is no good to do that, for it will do more damage than good.
I take some protien 2 hours before bed and, sometimes it makes sense.
The only reason I see for not lifting before bed is making it hard to sleep. If you can still fall asleep ok,then lift, suck down a bunch of protein and go to bed.

This is actually a great newb question and I have been wondering about it myself. I am more of a night person… I’m more awake, I feel stronger, and I have better workouts at night. The only reason I am hesitant to workout at night/before bed is the 8 hour fasting that will go on.
Obviously, post workout meals are important, and if we go in to a catabolic state of sleeping during this time period, I’m afraid it would negate any chances of growth. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
One person’s experience can be different from another’s… it is my experience that it is difficult to sleep soon after you work out. After about two hours, if I didn’t take any Spike, I’m ready to sleep.
In that time, it’s easy to get in a lot of calories that you need for that 8 hour non feeding timespan. Metabolic Drive, cottage cheese and milk will go a long way.
I think lifting at 10pm is probably going to mess with your sleep less than burning out your eyes at the computer monitor… I train when I can and sometimes that means after 10pm - not what I’d prefer, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. If I’m tired enough, I can finish training and be out within an hour.
lifting jacks your metabolism, it’s that simple. some people can do it before bed. i cannot. i’ve found i need to lift at least 6 hours before i sleep. intense sessions like squats and dls i have to do in the morning to not only sleep well but also to eat all day after doing them. i recover a day faster than if i lift toward the evening and then have only a couple of meals before and 8-10 hour sleep.
I work 3-11pm and always hit the gym after work. I usually don’t get home until approx 2-2:30am. When I get back I drink a protein shake with milk and possible start cooking up some food. Usually end up watching tv to turn my brain off before bed and end up hitting the sack by 3:00am.
Is it good for you? Yes
Should I take a shake/eat? Yes(How much is depending on your goals and metabolism).
Any pointers? After your shake drink alot of water before you go to bed. If you wake up to take a leak, drink more fluid to replace it. Sucks, but atleast you won’t wake up dehydrated with a creatine headache.
