Learning the Way

I like cardio. It wasn’t meant to spark such controversy. Since I am going to be doing it, I just wondered if there was a best time. Thanks to the PMs that gave me good info.

I will try to be more clear with any future questions seeing as how I wasn’t asking about my diet or asking about if I should do cardio.

To Skyel, skinny fat looks just fine to me. I can work with that. I have a ways to go, and I am getting there.

I’m off to play some tennis. =)

Isabelle, I like cardio too. I ran cross country all through junior high, high school and some college.
I’ve been a kickboxing fiend for the past three years as well. I gave it up, kicking and screaming. I still take an occasional class.

My only thing is diet. Diet is key and I still stand by that.

If that makes me an ‘idiot’, then so be it.
I don’t

Need to be skinny fat by labor day.

stop eating everything but rice cakes and salads and egg whites.

900kcal per day.

run 7 miles per week.
Cbear, I’m all over it…

I used to clock 40/50miles per week back in my hey days…7 is chump change.

I’m not you. Sorry you had to give up something you enjoyed. If I have a question about my diet I will ask you or post the question. I have read so much on this site so I know what I should not be eating, and what I should eat. Lack of discipline is what got me fat so I am working on that.

I hear you, I have read your posts, you don’t like cardio. Okay. Thank you. It doesn’t make you an “idiot” but I don’t know why you and Cbear are throwing a hissy fit in my thread because I am going to do cardio. Can you please just stop? Best to you and your training.

I had a great time doing my cardio and playing tennis. I know it was much better than me sitting at home, watching t.v. and eating twinkies. =)

Good for you Belle!

Thank you for being so positive Mom-in-MD =)

I had a good breakfast and I have packed my lunch. I am proud of myself for getting up early enough to take a short walk when I woke up. Tonight it is weights and hard work and a good dinner. NO cheating. No cheating =)

Many swear by fasted morning cardio. Go for a brisk walk in the morning before breakfast when your glycogen levels are lower. The theory is that with less glycogen the body transitions to burning fat.

Does it work?..I don’t know personally since I’ve never done it. But those doing the DC style of training use it to manage fat gain while they eat ungodly amounts of food and a number of guys in the bodybuilding section are using it to lean up as part of their regular training.
This, its easy to go overboard with cardio and negate any gain you might have had from the gym but the DC guys do some cardio religously and those guys are massive.

It is also important to note that cardio is, in fact, good for you. It promotes heart and lung health in a way that typical weight-training can’t. Cosgrove is not anti-cardio. He just believes that it is not the most effective rapid fat-loss method…and I agree with that.

It’s too bad that Alpha’s log is no longer up on the site. He is, in my opinion, a superb example of lifting heavy shit balanced with energy systems activities such as hill-sprints and even some distance running. debra and Alisa are great example of women combining weights and some form of cardio. I’m not a big fan of long, boring steady state and there is lots of evidence that it is potentially counterproductive. Giving up sports activities that you like would be silly. Just keep the cardio portion in balance with the rest of your plan and structure it so it doesn’t sap your energy for serious weight training.

Thanks Joe and giterdone. I had a good workout tonight and left with my legs so done negotiating the stairs was a challenge! =)
NO cardio tonight. I kept to my eating plan and I am pleased with my efforts today.
