pwned. seriously, arguing about whether or not this guy’s pullups are full ROM or not? Obviously they aren’t… [/quote]

Horrible form. He needs to control it all the way instead of letting it drop like that. He also needs more leg drive.

And I thought we didn’t get made fun of.
I didn’t read all the posts but I would not call those chins or complete pullups. To me that is the same as doing quarter squats or half benches, curls where you do not straighten your arms all the way etc.
The guy has awesome development, but in my opinion those were not good pullups, chins or whatever. The chin must clear the bar for me to be counted.
These squats are insane, even more than 20 rep squats. This also looks like Jesse Marunde’s last workout.
I do wonder though why a powerlifter like Kroc would love high-rep work. I doubt it’s for strength. Is it for GPP?

High rep work can increase muscle size due to the longer time under tension. In Westside For Skinny Bastards, Joe DeFranco recommends 2-3 sets of max reps for the first movement on RE Upper Body day.
Oh, and unless anyone here can show video evidence of them performing 30 full ROM pullups/chinups, please do us all a favor and shut up about Kroc’s form.
I like how everyone is on his nuts because he posted a vid doing half pullups. Just because the guy is big.
If anyone else were to post their thirty pullups and it was just as awful there would be flaming out the ass goin on in here.
Too funny.

Well maybe that’s the problem with people that think like you. Why would I care to listen to a guy who can do 30 text-book, full range, chin-over-the-bar, slow tempo, controlled, picture-perfect chins if he’s still skinny and weak? I’ll take Kroc and his nose-ups any day.
people that think like me? more than half of the T-Nation community preaches a full range of motion. All the coaches preach a full range of motion.
I do a full range of motion. There is no other way. Why not be big AND do full range of motion. Sorry bro but that is an excuse.
Wow, I can’t believe I read this entire thread… I’m exhausted as hell. You people have an amazing amount of energy if reading(and especially writing) stupid shit like this doesn’t tire you out.
Well, it goes to show that people don’t have anything good to do but argue over pointless things that will never do anyone any good. I REALLY wonder why…
Everybody criticizes him for his form…Weird…
Oh well, I’d rather learn stuff from him, since he actually tells people to believe in themselves and bust their asses, instead of telling them they should get 1.25234 extra inches on some reps in order for a lift to be a real lift.

From what I remember in the Q&A he said he did them in order to improve mental toughness. And probably to shock his body.

Wow. Are you serious? more than half of T-Nation is small and weak. Have you looked the the “Rate My Physique” section? For some reason this place attracts a lot of internet warriors that have probably never even touched a weight. At the same time, there is a small group of real strong and big forum member that have put in their time, busted their ass, and made something of themselves.
So, you go ahead and listen to the majority. I’ll pay attention to those that have actually achieved something.

… and apparently he won some powerlifting meet called the Arnold Classic. Not sure but apparently that is kind of a big deal to total 2400+ at 220.

Do you not get that Kroc’s goal is not to get good at pullups? It is to do the pullups in such a fashion as to increase his lifting ability. He uses them as a tool.
He will probably be the first to say they are not full range of motion, but they are working his body in such a fashion as to assist in completing his goal, and working as well.
It’s the whole epitome of lifting. Find what works for you and do it. The thing is newbie lifters will watch this video and think this will work for them. It probably won’t, that’s why beginners and intermediates should continue to use good technique and full range of motion.
The man was posting a video of his training, not gloating or anything. Anybody that is able to watch and analyze can find that while inspirational, it may not be what they personally need. The newbies will find their way somehow.

Because they wouldn’t be skinny and weak. The might be lean and smaller than your ideal but they certainly would not be weak.
Kroc did them that way for a reason. I am not sure if the reason was to goof off and max out to get a high number or if it is a legitimate and regular part of his training. does anyone know?

To me being big and strong is being able to the same things big as when I was smaller and lighter. I am not going to get so big that I cannot do a full range of motion pullup. That is just stupid. Being big and not having my functionality sucks.
Sounds like you are arguing on your behalf, not his. I bet your pullups are even more pathetic.

If he is not posting for bragging rights then why post a vid of doing 30 pullups? are they a staple in his routine? I don’t care if they are or not.
I am just stating my opinion of his pullups. period. If you don’t like it fine then, don’t like it. His half pullups to me are not that impressive. I don’t care how big you are. Yes that last few inches to clear the bar are the hardest part of the pullup. Like stated earlier he probably does not care to do them to get better at doing them, fine no problem with that. Just like a little guy weighing 180lbs full Olympic squatting 600lbs is impressive, so is a big guy like Kroc doing 30 full range pullups. The little guy doing a half squat, shit anyone can do that. See my point?
Enough of this bs

Not really…
What if that little guy is the worlds fastest man, and he uses half squats in his training? Would you argue he should be doing full squats even though it has been working well for him, more so than when he actually had been doing full squats?
dude come on. it was an example, don’t turn this into 180 lb guys squatting big weights.
I like your “what if” If ifs and buts were candy and nuts it would be Christmas all year long.
