Kroc Does 30 Pullups

Interesting on the topic of creating standards, brian schwab posted this over at elite:

When word got out at Orlando Barbell that I had done 31.5 pull-ups in an attempt to break Matt K’s Elite log record the challenge began. I was quickly defeated by someone who I thought was my friend, Steve Pratt, who accomplished 32 but was using wrist straps.

We decided that we had to have some clearly defined rules and set a date to make this challenge official. The rules were:

  1. The returning champion chose the order of the competitors.
  2. Shirts must be worn.
  3. No videotaping was allowed.
  4. Straps were allowed.
  5. The competitor had to come to eye level with the bar.
  6. An “honest attempt” at full extension must be made. (this was my rule)
  7. We had to have at least one biased, that’s right, biased judge.
Saturday, 5/12/07, was the chosen date and 1:30 the time. Marky Mark Lessmann was chosen as our biased judge.

Kalin Chester bowed out under pressure before the challenge began.

Big 6’7" 240 lb. Mike Lacombe was chosen to go first. He accomplished a respectable 25.

Daniel “The Natural” Tinajero was the second competitor and had many bets placed for him to be champion. With his previous best at only 26 I thought I had it in the bag. Daniel accomplished a remarkable 38.

I was next. I focused like I was at a meet blocking out my surroundings thinking only about the challenge before me. I strapped up and began, 32 reps into it I decided it was time to begin the leg kicking tactic. It worked. I pulled off 43 reps which was more than I even thought I could do.

Steve “The Face” Pratt was the returning champion and chose to go last. Early on in his attempts he began swinging wildly, I can only assume it was from the pressure. He gave it his all but walked away tying his PR of 32.

I was victorious.

You dudes are really serious bout this, huh.I gurantee if he we’re in front of you right now you wouldn’t be having this pathetic argument.Go lift some weights, fools!!!

It’s the internet. It’s a discussion.

Just like you wouldn’t be butting into our argument, calling it pathetic, and telling us “fools” to go lift some weights in real life.

There are a lot of arguments I make on this site that I wouldn’t in “real life”. First, it would probably get boring quick, and I wouldn’t have as much time to think about my next point. Second, the conversation would probably have changed sooner.

There’s no reason for the conversation to change here because this whole thread is about his pullups.

No your right I would just laugh to myself and think of how “pathetic” 2 dudes going back and forth, taking each other sentences w/ some sort of counter for what the other person just said.
To me personally “Pathetic”.Its a little bit more than a discussion to me,when guys are critiquing a random video posted by someone and then analyzing the living shit out of it.
Personally I could care less how the man does his pullups, what he does seems to work for him and like I said earlier a tad bit different kind of “discussion” would be going on here if Kroc were sitting right behind us as everyone wrote there comments,ha.
But hey like you said “it would probably get boring quick, and I wouldn’t have as much time to think about my next point. Second, the conversation would probably have changed sooner”
Well then if your bored educate your mind a bit on training, nutrition, etc. instead of wasting your damn time.
Hey I’ve gotta train now cause as I wasted my time here other people are training to be there best.Sorry gotta go…

Apparently you’ve only read that one of my posts on this thread. Now you’re arguing about “our” arguing, and made a much longer post than any of mine while doing it.

Wasting time here, so we’re not getting enough training in? Now that statement’s a bit pathetic.

I am much more open to the whole idea of internet argument / forum d-ck-waving contest, but if you’d ever met loucifer, or seen him compete, I doubt you’d call his results pathetic.

I don’t get the part about “eye level”. Perhaps you should call it an “eye up” event instead of a chin up one.

I put it in bold for you above, and re-wrote it again below in case you missed it in grey.

You wrote:

That had nothing to do with anything, and I never questioned loucifer’s strength. Unless you’re just stating the obvious for some reason.

I’m really not understanding your posts.

It’s like out of the blue, you just came in and said “hey, by the way, he has made some great results in the gym”. Okay, great, good for him, but still, nothing to do with what we were talking about.

If you’re not sure about what he called pathetic, and what I later called pathetic (his statement, NOT his strength results), you should work on reading comprehension, or slow down when you skim people’s posts if you’re going to try to call them out.

Here is the motherfucking goddamn point in a nutshell: if I you do any movement it must be completed to it’s full extension or it is not valid to call it anything else but a partial! If someone quarter squats 999 pounds it might be impressive but DON’T CALL IT A FULL SQUAT. If you curl 225 one quarter of the way up and use your hips to swing it, don’t call it curling 225. If you chin half way up to the bar, don’t call it a CHIN-UP!

She could try a dildo box squat on my cock for reps…

this is what I was referring to. you say it’s pathetic that he says we’re wasting time and not getting enough training in. and coming from someone else, that just might be pathetic. but not coming from lou

Err that women is using underhand-medium grip. He uses a wide over hand grip and has a bigger back so obviously he cannot get so high, because he cannot pull his scaps as close together as skiny people due to the size.

Actually you shorten your range of motion the farther out that you place your hands.

… think about the mechanics, ffs.

This is an accessory lift to him. Getting the muscles involved stronger is what the goal is.

It seems like he’s accomplished his goal with a WPO title and a second place in two years.

I’m sure Kroc would adhere to all the rules of the Official Gym Weenie Chin Association of the United States of America
if he chose to compete in a sanctioned meet.

there’s no physical “place” you can attend them. You just sit behind your keyboard and criticize.

You can paypal me your sanctioning fee, by the way.

And if you get injured during the event, you can always go to weenie hut general.

I don’t want to be a meet director, just surround myself with some of the greatest internet accesory movement critiquers on the planet.

Oh wait, I appear to have already accomplished that…

Nevermind.
