I’m a powerlifter and I know who he is, and I respect his strength in powerlifting, but…
If I post a video of me doing 30 reps with my chin going over the bar, people will say “yea but you weigh less.”
If I post a video of me doing chins the same form he did, people will rip me for not using full range proper form.
There has to be some standards otherwise what’s the point?
We all laugh at the quarter squatters at the gym and bench lock out artists.
When I go to a meet I have to hit parallel in squats. Either you hit parallel or you get red lighted. In bench, I have to touch and pause on my chest, otherwise it doesn’t count.
Same type of thing. Personally, I could give two shits how he trains, he is a good at what he does so whatever he is doing is working to make him a better, stronger powerlifter. If you look at his other vids, he has perfect form on squats and some of the best deadlift form even when doing reps with a heavy weight.

This is an accessory lift to him. Getting the muscles involved stronger is what the goal is.
It seems like he’s accomplished his goal with a WPO title and a second place in two years.
I’m sure Kroc would adhere to all the rules of the Official Gym Weenie Chin Association of the United States of America
if he chose to compete in a sanctioned meet.
Actually I have seen chin-up for max weight as part of a strong man comp. and have heard of chin-up contests. If the movement was as “popular” as the bench press, they would probably be just as common as those great bench press meets. Except for maybe the fact that there wouldn’t be any cheating with 5 layer bench shirts…
AndI’m sure if he chose to compete in such an association he would follow those rules. Being that he has fitness goals that are different, I would say his training methods are helping him meet his own personal goals.
WPO champ and such. And you wonder why T nation has such a silly reputation. It’s nonsense such as this. We had a good laugh at some of the guys on this website out at the Arnold this year.
Some get it and some don’t. The people who do somehow get bigger and stronger. The others worry about a strong as hell guy not competing his chins in an appropriate manner.
But again, as an accessory lift it working just fine for him.

Who is worrying about shit? I already said that I could not care less if the partial chins work for him as an assistance exercise. What I have a problem with is calling these half-pull-ups full pull-ups. 33 pull-ups is an impressive feat. 33 half or quarter ones isn’t.
“your technique is great butyou lean foward and to the left some when you go down on your squat…this could affect your back greatly…might want to check that out…”
Hey, they do have a place where they do strict pull-ups – The Marines. If only Matt K. could go to the Marines, they could teach him the correct way to chin. Oh wait, he is a Marine!
I’m pretty sure that this guy knows what he’s doing. Maybe he should have posted" "30 wide-grip pullups to the forehead, used as a supplemental exercise for my outrageous deadlift and my huge fucking back.
It might not be up to the standards of Internet Lifters, so I apologize profusely. I also apologize in advance for whatever other technique flaws I might be exhibiting, such as a few inches of leg swing, or not using a regulation-sized official United States Internet Lifting Association Strict Chin-up bar, or wearing non-regulation USILA attire." Maybe that would have forestalled this nonsense?
Or, he could just keep training, have a WPO title, a deadlift in the neighborhood of 800 @220, a back bigger than the whole body of guys posting on here criticizing… I personally think he should spend less time training and more time thinking of how to make the high-schooler sized Internet lifters happy. I want my money back!
So true. It was only a you tube heading afterall, hahahahaa.

Actually the only thing that I pointed out was that his chin did not go over the bar, which is the basic idea behind doing a chin up. It doesn’t take a triple digit IQ to comprehend this simple point which apparently is lost on your apparently limited intellect.
If these partial chin ups or whatever you want to call them, help him deadlift 800 pounds, good for him, just don’t disingeneously brag on you tube that you can do 33 pull-ups, which is a strength accomplishment in it’s own right.

I’m betting the strongman contest you saw that in was the one put on by the atlantis organization? If so, jeez, you wanna talk about a bunch of backwater, random, odd feats. Not to get too snobby about it, but if theres a strongman competition in the usa that isnt sanctioned by NAS, how seriously can you take it?
furthermore, bench pressing is a tautology, it adheres to its own rules. why inflammatory terms such as “cheating” continue to be used is beyond me

The contest was put on by Ed Coan and consisted of barbell strongman type stuff, which I think is not only interesting, but probably more practical for the average Joe to train for who doesn’t have access to strongman equipment.

I don’t want to start a tedious gear debate, but a lot of people do think that certain gear is cheating and I can sympathize with that point of view.
Amazing how easily you can read these posts and tell the serious lifters from the clowns.
If one of you critics saw Matt in the gym and told him his training was shit, he’d probably put you in a coma. At least I hope he would. Then I’d come pee on you.

180 pounds at six foot tall? jules, whatever you’re doing isn’t working.
Seriously, step down as chairman of the USAILA and eat a sandwich, instead of getting your panties in a bunch about some guy’s heading on his youtube video.

Just what this thread needs, internet bravado and childish threats… How old are you 9?
And I can tell by reading the responses to my posts who has double digit IQs or 3rd grade reading comprehension level. Where did I say that his training was “shit?”

Are you a marathon runner or something?
I guess that your reading comprehension is even worse than the other joker. Besides this, one of you (stupid) fantasizes about peeing on me and the other (retard) now fantasizes about me wearing panties.
