Kettlebell Critique Video

Hi guys,

I’d really appreciate it if I could get some advice on my form with the single arm swing and the Turkish get-up. The reason I’m shirtless for the swings is just to better show the angle of my spine.

Thanks for your time.

p.s. This video is definitely best off muted lol.

This is what I’m used to for 1-arm swings. This was the way Pavel taught them. Is there a reason you’re doing yours without the hip drive?

One Arm Kettlebell Swing - YouTube [/quote]

Hi LoRez. Sorry I don’t quite follow - what exactly do you mean by hip drive? My understanding was that hip drive was just an explosive hip extension, which I thought I was doing. I’m certainly only moving the weight with my hip extensors.

Sorry, I didn’t mean for such a delay between posting that and now.

Granted, it’s been a long time since I watched any of his videos (I actually have the original RKC video somewhere), but I distinctly remember him teaching the top of the swing with an almost violent hip thrust. Let me see if I can dig up what I’m thinking about from one of his books later tonight.

I think what surprised me when watching your video was that you seemed to be pivoting purely at the hip with what appear to be locked knees. While I can’t explain why that’s a good thing or bad thing, it was just different from what I remember Pavel teaching back when I was learning/doing kettlebell stuff. Unfortunately, Pavel’s video clips don’t seem to be available on youtube.

Found it. Just didn’t look hard enough.

1:22 is the intro. 2:00 is where he demos the “hip action”. 2:57 for the one arm swing.

You can see how it’s truly an exaggerated hip movement; the actual swing of the bell seems to lag quite a bit behind the hips.
