Yes, I understand and thank you for your comments. I am simply trying to find some of Kelly’s success stories before I invest in his fine book.
I’m a college volleyball player and while I wasn’t training directly under Kelly, his book (VJB) and articles were a great influence on my training and I increased my vertical leap from 30-34". Maybe that is not world class, but a 34" vert on a 6’4" guy is pretty decent.
I’m sure my results would’ve been even better if I was training directly under Kelly.

which program did u use was it from his vert book or article?

I didn’t use any of the programs specifically; I used the information and the tests he has in the book to try to lay out what was best for me as an individual. I also used a lot from the article he wrote for Inno-Sport.
He’s trained my boy and we’ve been very happy with his progress. As a sophomore he was 130 pounds just barely squatting bodyweight running a 5.5 40, 5.0 short shuttle, 23 inch VJ, 135 pound bench press. I had him doing bunch of various speed and plyo work thinking that’s what he needed.
He’s followed Kelly’s programs almost year and a half now and he now weighs close to 180, runs a 4.65 40, benches close to 300…not sure what his lower body strength lifts are now since kelly has now backed off on that but he has hit 315 + ATG squat and Snatch DL for reps of 5…he’s easily the strongest guy on his basketball team but also probably the most athletic. Vert of 34 now but with nearly 50 more pounds of muscle. If he could hold on to the ball he could dunk.

Wow “Truck” thanks for taking the time to tell us all about your son. And on your very first post at T-Nation.

Sounds like he went through puberty!
Just kidding, even with the natural growth and strength increases in puberty, adolescents can’t get those kind of results from junk training. Baggett knows his stuff.

yeah, I’m sure Kelly created a fake account to convince you to buy his book. An endorsment from Edders would launch him into a whole new stratosphere in the strength and fitness industry.

I did not say that, nor did I imply that Kelly did any such thing. You obviously have shit for brains and some just spilled onto the forum. Now clean it up and get out of here.

Haha, wow someone has got some issues.

At least I’m not claiming that someone gained 50 pounds and can bench press the world, all in 18 months.

I gained 20lbs during a 3 month period when I could barely lift at all because of an elbow injury. It isn’t that outlandish, especially for a teenager who is also growing during this time period. Maybe I am completely wrong but the way you worded your post it definitely appeared like you were insinuating that Kelly had created a fake account to plug his book, which I thought was a little unfair.

I dunno bout you, but benching “close to 300” ain’t exactly “the world”, even for a high school kid. Certainly it’s not unrealistic for a teenager with a good coach to gain 50 pounds in 18 months.
Maybe you should spend less time critizing others and more time examining your own training methodologies?
I’m sure a successful coach like Kelly Baggett could care less about a guy like Edders. From the get go, Edders has proved to be arguementative for arguements sake. His passive aggressive tone is almost as annoying as his ignorance.

Did you also increase your 40 and do all sorts of amazing things?
I agree growing and gaining weight is not outlandish. However, all the other things do make the story somewhat difficult to buy into.

The next time you want to kiss ass pick an ass that needs kissing. I was not buying into the posters brag. It had NOTHING to do with Kelly.

I’m not saying it’s impossible. I am saying it’s improbable to gain all that weight in 18 mo and also increase his speed too. And if you think it’s common for a kid to go from benching 135 to 300 in 18 months you are very wrong.

Maybe you should follow your own advice. You are criticizing me and you don’t know one thing about my training methodologies.

Okay, one more time for the reading comp challenged.
I simply wanted to know who Kelly trained. Review my posts, no insults to Kelly and in fact I was very respectful.
But…please don’t think for a second that it’s wrong or disrespectful to ask certain questions before you make a purchase.
Some of you are either teens or just not all that smart. And that would include you stockzy. And the other ass kissers.
That sort’ve BW and performance gain for a growing teenager is not so astounding. Hell, as a 19 year old I gained 40 pounds in 6 months and didn’t grow an inch in height. This kid did it in 1.5 years and also did quite a bit of growing.
You also have to factor in he had someone telling him exactly when to train, when to eat, when to sleep, and followed things to the letter.
I’m sure other guys around here who have done a lot of 1 on 1 work with high school athletes can tell you what is capable when a growing teenager gets things right training and eatingwise. Most teenagers will progress in speed and power as they get stronger…yet most of them eat like crap, train like crap, and still get a lot bigger, stronger, and explosive - largely because of their superior endocrine status. When good training and nutrition is added in dramatic things can happen.
I’m not saying it’s impossible. I am saying it’s improbable to gain all that weight in 18 mo and also increase his speed too. And if you think it’s common for a kid to go from benching 135 to 300 in 18 months you are very wrong.[/quote]
I don’t think you’ve worked with a lot of teenage athletes. I gained 40 pounds in about 18 months and increased my vertical leap 4". Of course, my squat also more than doubled.
Speaking of reading comprehension, I neve said it was “common” for a kid to go from benching 135 to 300. I just said that a 300 pound bench is not “the world”, meaning that it’s not ridiculously rare to see a high school kid bench 300 pounds.
I just wanted to hop on the bandwagon and say thanks to Kelly. Your training guidelines are awesome and are a part of my everyday training. I can’t speak highly enough of how good his stuff is.
And how cool is it he takes time out of his day to post here? Thanks
