You just worry bout your deadlift with no straps right now!
Mixed grip is probably feasible, I just hate training it with any form of frequency

What’s the best you’ve done without straps btw?

- YouTube that’s 170kg for a single double overhand from 9 months ago - pathetic that it’s not progressed much since then, but that’s what happens when you don’t train something consistently. I can pull this for 5 with straps now, but don’t know if I could even pick it up DOH right now.

Deadlift 160kg for reps (with ridiculous between rep dancing) - YouTube that’s 160kg for around 10 reps (albeit more of a cluster set) DOH from 6 months ago. Best recent PR here is 4 reps before needing to go mixed grip.

I reckon I could easily hold 180kg mixed grip right now, and do plan on testing my capabilities there by doing some mixed grip rack pulls after shrugs. I refuse to use mixed grip regularly in training since my right arm doesn’t straighten fully and that makes me nervous of tearing it going under hand, and my left upper back likes to spasm whenever I hold something under hand on that side. I’ve even pulled a trap curling an 11kg dumbell before.

I’m currently taking TehPWNisher’s recommendation of training my deadlift with straps when I need to so I can bring hips, back etc up, and training my grip separately. Then when it comes to a no straps contest, I can whip out mixed grip, and hope that it’s the direct grip work carries over. It seems to work for him, and I know George Leeman tends to do something similar (although his grip is currently his limiting factor).

Cliff notes: - 170kg strapless DOH PR - my grip is weaker now even though my pull has improved.

 • I like to fill your log with walls of text and videos

Interesting…

It’s a fairly even race tbh, I never do DOH or really push reps cause I’m feart with my back lol.

Yeah, I’m not going over 5 reps on pulls either, it doesn’t seem worth risking the technique breakdown. I’m more willing to push the boundaries of technique on squats for some reason, as long as I feel in control. I know you have some reoccurring back problems as well.

Thoughts on when a belt is appropriate? I tend to use it if my back is feeling iffy that day because I slept on it wrong, or bent over funny, or something stupid like that, but I’ve always leaned towards avoiding any sort of crutch whereever I can.

Good luck with your 4 plates for 3 reps pulls, I’ve got 175kg (best ever 1RM) for reps lined up for Friday or Saturday, and I’m hoping for 4.
If we both hit those we’re pretty much dead even at c. 190kg

I just use it on anything over 3 plates tbh, unless I’m doing a single at 150 or 160. I use it more as a preventative measure, use it whilst I feel good to ensure my back doesn’t feel like shit lol.

I’m quite scared regarding the 4 plates for 3, my erectors felt torn in half after the last session.

Little life update. In 10 days time I will be going to the open casting for Star Wars 7 in Glasgow!

And thanks sugar tits.
Lol. Awesome, we got the Mens 85kg preliminary on Mon 28th. Not a great one, but no finals were left and we both wanted to see 85kg because that’s a close weight to us.
I have no clue what groups my bird got us, if it’s the same day fancy a pre games meet up for some lifting?
Definitely :).

That’s awesome about the Star Wars casting, hope it goes well!

I can hold at least 190kg with mixed grip, found out today.

Also, got 175 for 5 and 185 for an easy single, race on

Thank you, my Scottish brethren.

I hate seeing my log looking so boring without videos and a lot of workout volume though…

I’ve just got to get that Star Wars role, drop out of uni and get shredded as fuck for the movie lol.

Haha! Well you do sound like you fit the role of the “capable young man in his 20s” or whatever that one was. Good luck with it, will be a cool experience!

See, I was going to say that after the deadlift race we could do something bodyweight related, like first to press bodyweight (for reps?). But then you had to go and do that^

Mad for a races you are.

I’m willing to concede inevitable loss in lower body movement races but I shall reign supreme between us for pressing!

Impressive pressing batman! Nice. It will be stupendously awesome if you get the Star Wars part.

Compliment accepted, Captain Needa.

I did 70k for 3 a few weeks ago and no body seemed to notice that mediocre milestone lol.

I’m going through that imaginative phrase of thought right now of what if scenarios, similar to when one goes to a store and buys a lotto ticket and starts to dream about what would change if the highly improbable actually happened. Having an action figure of ones self would be unreal!

That’s because it’s not 80k. You still have two more days to reach my original prediction
