negatives are getting yourself up to the top however (chair, …) and letting yourself down sloooooowly to work the muscles.

do 'em either pull-up or chin-up style

You had a kick ass day in the gym my dear; an ass load of prs.

Negative pull ups are when you jump to the bar and lower yourself as slowly as possible and jump up and do it again. They are killers and a great way to build strength on them. That’s how I started when I could only do one or two.

Accidental PRs! That is funny and awesome all at once.

I haven’t done negatives in a long time, thinking that once I was able to haul my ass up to the bar then I should just work on reps. As always, mixing it up can’t be bad.

Damn woman!! you’re PRing left and right - awesome work!!

I just got taught how to properly do the 1 arm snatches - turns out I was doing more of a high pull + push press and not the actual snatch. Needless to say 45 on that is ridic! I’m gonna see if I can catch you, so look out…

Proud of ya girl - good stuff in here!

great pulls and all those PRs too. Great lifting.

Thanks peeps!
Just an fyi I know a lot of people are dieting for the summer but since the end of May I’ve been on a light calorie surplus with the hopes of adding some strength and size. I gained maybe 3-4 pounds - nothing to be scared of (I don’t have a scale at home, I weigh myself when I visit family who does).

I’m planning on keeping this track until september and then in september I’m upping the cardio and metabolic workouts, restricting the diet for a couple weeks for a work event in october that I want to look tight for.

Today’s workout

alternating db snatch - to show Masch my vids.
35lbs 1x1
40lbs 1x1
45lbs 2x1

squats
95lbs 1x8
115lbs 1x8
135lbs 3x8 rep PR + 3 - most I ever did was 1x5. so 3x8 totally is a big step up. On the last set I had to cut deals with myself. Reach 5 reps… okay 1 last one for 6. fuck you got to six you can crank out another 1. Finally 1 last rep and I reached 8. I can be very convincing at times. lol. I actually took a few seconds breathers during these attempts but kept the bar on my back the whole time.

bb row
50lbs 3x12 - my back was still toasted from the deads and pushups so these felt weak.

decline DB bench - key press - stole these from the articles to try something new
30lbs 3x10

bb split squat back foot on riser
bb 3x12 - tough after the squats. I’m still not stable on these so I’m afraid to ad weight and hurt myself. I figure when I’m strong enough I will be able to keep the posture properly.

swiss ball ab crunch - arms fully extended holding a 9kg medecine ball
3x25

i’ve got some snatch vids I’ll be posting shortly

DB snatch 40 lbs - I’m open to comments.

sorry for the side view, I’m obviously techno-challenged.

This is 45lbs - for Maschy who thinks it’s hardcore stuff…

It’s cool, I turned my laptop sideways

I will never understand Olympic Lifts so I have nothing constructive to add.

But you’re a strong chicka. That’s my comment.

I was trying to do something funny in the vids but it didn’t really show up. This is for Masch’s comment in SAMA… I wrote it on my arm with eyeliner and actually walked to the gym with it. Here’s the close-up.

^ HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! I <3 nlmain!!!

Love it. People must’ve been like “what a strange tattoo…”

Thank you for the vids! Its true, 45 is super hardcore - that’s tuff stuff. But yeah, those snatches looked good

ps. love hearing about how you psyche yourself up - no wonder you smoked that squat. I’m gonna try that too

I thought that there was some hop involved in a snatch…no?

if you did a little jump at the snatch part you’d be killin that 45…I haven’t done those in forever, but they are going on the list for next week…

awesome effort on the squats…I shifted focus to reppin it out and its HAAARD!

nikki: strong is good - thx!!

Masch: glad you like it. I almost didn’t post it thinking the joke was too much, that peeps would think I’m a serial something… lol. glad you took it for what it was.

MIM: you need to vid your hop and show me what you mean woman! I’ve been concentrating on hitting weight PR’s for these past weeks but I think it would be smart to add reps to the heavy stuff for a while. Balance is key.

yep, balance. Plus I go through phases where I want to lift just for strength or aesthetics…the aesthetics side is taking over now…for awhile at least.

I’ll make a vid for you! I actually have one, but it’s from April 09 and I was 200+ lbs…not pretty.

Here is a guy who knows his snatches though!!

I LOVE that snatch. Plus I also like typing “snatch”… Never done snatches, but seeing that I barely can clean my 12 kg. kettlebell, I am pessimistic about my ability to snatch any signficant weight.

And I totally make deals with myself for reps. Just like you, I am very convincing.

Thanks Mim that vid was really informative. Honestly I was doing the snatch as a lift not a throw. It made a lot of sense when he did it using a medecine ball. As for the jump, it’s partly for the momemtum of the throw and partly to squat under the DB. More things to learn which will hopefully transform into a totally badass 50lbs snatch. I have the same issue of squating my clean and press. More to learn keeps me motivated.

Kimba 12kg is almost 30lbs - which is the weight I started progressing from. Try snatching a weight you can curl. making deals is a great way to break personal barriers. My mind was used to stopping at 5 reps. I knew I could do more, just had to convince my brain that the body would follow.

Anwyho this morning my ass and hammies are fried from the squats and lunges but my upper seems fine. I might hit the gym later for some upper body work. Bro’s invited us for some BBQ tonight. Big giant burgers and beer. That’s my idea of a decent post workout  at least until september. And yes I’m enjoying every minute of it.
