Why do hotel gyms suck so bad? WHY???
That sucks about the hotel gym. In my experience you’re better off carrying a kettle bell with you and just doing circuits than trying to lift in most hotel gyms.
Joe that is a great idea!! Most hotel gyms are pretty pathetic but this one, nlmain, sounds worst by far. Glad you made it home and can get to your regular routine. Does anyone else have withdrawals the way I do when I’m away from my home gym (I’m an addict!!!)?
Hey Joe - kettle bells are too expensive, like 80$ a pop. But I’m thinking of puting together a bodyweight program, maybe some bands and lighter DB and finally a jog for those weeks I’m traveling.
Today:
1 hour walk in the beautiful sunshine. yeah!
Then off to the gym:
platepushes 70lbs 2x5, 2x3, - tried to go for 3x5 without rest but the legs were burning and I was panting like a dog. The 5 reps are an increase from last time so I’m happy with those.
DB rows
50lbs 2x8,
1x10, - just to push myself. Had to rest the left hand an most of these before banging out the final few reps. Just so you know I’m not that tough. Also I used chalk which really helped with grip issues. God Bless Chalk.
cable crunches
85lbs 1x12,
105lbs 1x6, - these felt really tough.
95lbs 1x12,
rackpulls peg at knees - I usually do my heavy lifts first in order to obtain the much coveted PR’s but this time I was just practicing repping through fatigue and a weight I could handle.
135lbs 1x12
205lbs 1x5
225lbs 1x8 - pretty happy with those although I did reset and rest through a few reps but the goal was to do 8 total.
Supper: basil & tomatoe chicken breast over wild rice.
it’s good to be home!
Awesome workout! Looks like you had energy to spare and you really pushed yourself - love it!
Check out those DB rows! Awesome. I have yet to pick up the 50s and do anything with them.
Glad you are back. Traveling for work is way less fun than it should be.
Thanks Masch! you’re right part of me wanted to add more accessory stuff but I figured this was the first day this week and I’m planning to go back 3-4 times so I might as well keep some of the energy for later.
Kimba: traveling for worked seemed glamourous like the 1st minute. Then I realized the need to juggle food, the not sleeping when I’m not in my bed and the crappy gyms.
On the rows I used a lot of “body enlgish” to get that weight up. Form is not my best friend when my ego steps in but I figure I’m swinging that bastard around so somewhere a muscle is getting a workout. lol.
Today’s workout is brought to you by the letter B for bloody…as I was finishing up some kid jammed his finger between the barbell(135lbs) and the rack. He totally severed his finger. Very gross. Had to help him out, his 2 buddies were like scratching their balls. He had full fingered gloves on so they didn’t think he was hurt much but I could see his eyes rolling on the blood dripping through the fucking leather. Told one stooge to give me a hand to unrack the barbell to let his buddy out before he fainted and hurt himself some more. It was when they finally took the glove off that the buddy decided to start moving ass and called the ambulance. sheesh. I stayed to clean up the mess a bit and left as the ambulance arrived. Goes to show some people aren’t worth shit as spots. Talk about killing a grove. Anywho this is what I managed to do before the drama hit.
BB push press
65lbs 1x8
75lbs 1x8
85lbs 1x3 - was disappointed by hevay this felt/
95lbs 8x1 tried repping but couldn’t do it. I had let it go for a while to concentrate on squats so I decided to do a bunch of singles with plenty of rest in between.
reverse hypers
25lbs plate to chest 3x12
close grip cable rows
75lbs 1x12
95lbs 1x8 - was surprised how easy this felt. Rep PR + 3
105lbs 2x5 - Rep PR + 2
BB bulgarian split squats
bar 3x12 for some reason I am way weaker on the right side…hmmmm.
push ups on medecine ball
3x12 rep PR + 4
cable tricep pull down
35 lbs 2x12 - was aiming for 3x12 and then some farmers walks but you know the story. Tommorow is another day.
edit: changed millie for pushpress
Very nice millies on top of being the rescue squad. That’s a total mom thing to do. If you don’t already have kids, some day you’ll be awesome at cleaning up vomit and stuff.
Seriously nice MP though. I think I’ve only ever gotten 75.
A 95 lb. MP is completely and totally AWESOME. Too bad about the blood. Note to self: keep fingers out of the way of the rack/barbell.
Way weaker on the right side? Definitely address that with more single leg work. It sucks, but its needed.
aw man - sorry girls I screwed up. Those weren’t millies but push press. No way in hell I could millie 95lbs…yet. I’m sorry I still mix those up. Damn. I feel like such a newb.
O- No kids for now too busy working and such. maybe someday.
Kimba - I just think it’s strange that my right would be weaker when I’m right-handed. sounds kinda loopy.
I coulda sworn you had a little baby, like 8 months old or so…no?

I bet she just forgot. Sometimes I forget about my two. Then they start demanding stuff again.
^Ha! Sometimes I wish I could forget!
j/k
They make life interesting thats for sure…
lol! that was my brother’s girl-child Florence. She’s 8 months old. Not a mama myself but a fab auntie taking tones of pics.
Thats natures way of punishing the kid for wearing gloves.
Nice push presses, also gym drama sucks and I have the same to spot for me when I lift as the kid did.

Joe: a slap on the wrist might have been more appropriate. If someone would have taken him under their kind wing and shown him the light perhaps he would hav turned out to be a great lifter? But since I lift in a commercial gym I assume no one wants my advice unless they ask for it.
This has actually happened with my bands. I made a convert of a really fit young woman who like me could barely crank out a few chins and such so she was using the dreaded machine. She saw me use my bands and asked me about them. Her face lit up when she could rep like 10 in a row!
drove 270 K yesterday and was too tired out to move a muscle. The gym is closed today due to a provincial holiday: St. Jean Babtiste - or Quebec I love you so I’m getting shit faced drunk in public listening to bad music day. I’m using it as a cue to take it outside. I’m thinking I’ll try and beat my 3m run. maybe add a few sprints and bw moves at the end.
oh and is there anything better than getting a hold of your fav PP? I ran out a while back but it’s not a brand that I can find everywhere so I had to wait and make a special trip. In the meantime I tested a few others which tasted eiter like plain crap or candy on crack. I like mine not too thick and not to sweet which seems to be the contrary of the whole freakin industry. My oatmeal this morning was great.
Yeah for the little things that make life good. Like the protein I can eat day in and out and still enjoy.
Okay, which brand of PP do you use cause I’m always looking for a better tasting one?
