Id, Ego, & La Superbeasta

I’m not a very good meathead, but I’m pretty sure he can’t get much out of my paper. Some of us aren’t dumb.

the final straw? I asked him if he knew of another “meathead” like myself who could have an intelligent conversation about the metabolism of a certain drug at particular receptor sites. I logged on and pointed to a PhD, a microbiologist, a lawyer, and a partridge in a pear tree. Dont ask me how i got the partridge to stay in the pear tree, or where i found a fucking pear tree in february in ohio.

he surrendered and the stereotype was shattered! win one for the meatheads!!

Excellent work, CBear. Edumacating the clueless, one at a time…

sunday night, then im goin again about 90 min after i finish mah chicken im eating.

I’m one of the people who DONT have the luxury of spending 3 hrs at the gym each time I go, and I’m learning to balance work, school, observation hours, the gym, and my out of town visitors I’ve been having lately.

All in all, I think I’m doin pretty well, and I’m happy with it.

alright kids, Bobbi would be happier if I posted only about training.

I, however, would be bored as shit and I’d lose one of the elements that keep me from feeling like I’m all work and no play.

I think tonight, before I leave the gym, I’ll throw up in the lobby in the spirit of camaraderie.

thx for askin!

work out hard enough to throw up and I’ll give you an e-high five

aw man, im doin it wrong? hangs head and kicks dirt

so my front squats went better tonight than they did last time, ended up with 125x8 on my last set. The off-set stepups made me happy, too- worked up to a 55lb db.

then i saw an ex on one of the treadmills via the mirror and almost fell. this is the guy that broke up with me and because of that, I reconsidered everything I was doing with my life, cut down and quit drinking, and started lifting. THAT GUY. was on a treadmill. I lol’d. didnt try to hide it, either.

then i saw a pair of young girls (16-17) step up to the power rack, and something about the way they loaded 135 onto the bar made me pay attention. The way they added another 50lbs made me stop and stare. The way one of em squatted it ON HER NECK, for a 5 inch ROM, made me stop and ask what they were doing.

I started talkin to em about hitting and breaking parallel, putting the bar on their back instead of their neck, then brought up box squats. “I assume you two are in a jumping sport, like basketball or something?”

“no, we’re powerlifters”

it’s at this point Cbear has an aneurysm.

I find out that the county high schools are now offering powerlifting competitions, judged by other high schoolers, equipped and not, but that they’ve never been called for depth on squatting, and deadlifting scares them. their coach has never cued them to drive thru their heels, push their knees out, or squeeze their ass. they cant to a pull up or an inverted row. they’ve been doing bodyweight workouts for 2 weeks, and they have a meet on the 20th.

I may or may not get involved in this shit.

Are you sure it wasn’t these girls?

Their “coach” is probably like the fat old guy that “coaches” these two boys at my gym. And by “coaches” I actually mean “teaches them its acceptable to talk to people who are wearing ear buds and about to start a set of deads and ask them how many more sets they have”, “tells them its ok to leave their loaded bars on the platform for someone else to clean up”, and “never bothers to point out to the skinny little shit that he needs to push his knees out and sit back when he’s squatting”.

Fine by me though. Gives me someone to yell at and I’m pretty sure I squat the tall kid’s max, if not, I def have him on coefficient.

That is tragic. Damn.
I’m curious how this plays out.

Careful Bear, it may just be a way for them to earn some credits.

Or you’ll just get angry by getting to see what I saw last week at work.

The call came in as an injured party, on arrival young out of shape girl in workout area of gym. Gym teacher (I use this term lightly) has her doing box jumps onto a 12" high box. Girl was getting tired didn’t want to get embarrased (or ridiculed by her teacher) and kept going, ended up missing the box and going to the ER by ambulance on a backboard.

I wanted to beat the guy over the head with a kettlebell…

Oh no! How did she hurt herself?

Hmmm…lanchefn1 makes a good point, but I still think its awesome that you went over there and scouted out the situ.

These girls need role models like you cbear! The future powerliftering depends on it

dear god that video was some entertainment, BG! thank you for a cheerful start to my morning…i never use “LOL” but that deserves it.

Honestly, if I saw some girls even at least trying to squat, bench or DL I would be happy…I mean whether or not they were lifting big, if the effort is there thats what counts…

sounds like you were in the right place at the right time C. don’t go too hard on em!

Very nice work.

You never have to go far to work up a good story.

Oh my goodness. On the one hand, its awesome that these girls WANT to powerlift. But this is otherwise just tragic. I certainly understand the impulse to stop the trainwreck.

Shouldn’t there be some sort of certification to call yourself a powerlifter?? Even if it’s just having some swole bastard say “yup, you can lift good n stuff”?? Shit I wouldn’t even tell anybody I was a powerlifter…

I always thought of doing a meet as a sort of rite of passage, but after doing 3 of those, I still don’t feel quite right saying that I’m a powerlifter sometimes.

My back aches watching those girls in the video deadlift.

Shouldn’t you do exercises with perfect form before you add weight? I may be a newb, but I know that.

I need a real gym, so I can do this stuff…
