Driving slow in the passing lane

My wife used to do that as some dicked up expression of autonomy or something.

I would yell at her that her mangled sense of what ever bullshit was going to get us killed until she stopped doing that, but not before somebody swerved to go around us, lost controll and ran up an embankment, rolling the vehicle.

It’s the one, sure bet to get me to road rage. Especially when they intentionally speed up to disallow a pass when you have a window from the adjacent lane. Would legit pull over and fight about it.

I wish police would enforce it. In Texas at least, it’s actually a law that the left lane is for passing. Signs are up and everything. It sincerely impedes flow of traffic but it’s the one thing the law won’t touch.

The best part is when they brake check you.

I honestly believe, at least where I live, a lot of drivers don’t know that the left lane is for passing and that the speed limit is no longer 55 but 65.

People who use their phones while driving. It’s as if all the different hands free technologies are somehow unavailable to them. I’ve seen people in newer cars, that I know came with bluetooth connectivity, holding their phones against their ears.

Yeah, I warned her about that too.

I think the straw that broke the camels back was when she was hanging out in the blind spot of an 18 wheeler that wanted to change lanes and almost ran us over.

We (she) had to slam on the brakes and drive off on to the shoulder to avoid us getting annihilated. Then once the self righteous indignation wore off, she realized how completely idiotic that was.

Its an economy/family car. It doesn’t belong in the left lane. Porsche, Alpha Romeo- sure. 4 door chevy compact with a 1.6l? No!

Yeah that’s scary!

Agreed. Traditionally if people are cruising in the left lane they’ll allow a pass if you pull up on them, but this seems to be a lost courtesy.

Fortunately I drive a truck, so if it’s night time at least, it’s easy enough to spotlight the shit out them through their mirrors.

Another truck perk. I’ll ride that ass and if you do force a crash you’re in the tin can, not me.

Even on regular roads I just pull over and wave people past. They want to go fast? Go! Better that you’re way in front of me than right behind!

Its such a wierd move that some people don’t even know how to respond.

*Doing anything other than passing in the left lane.

Speed limits screw up enforcement of left lane use laws. It’s hard to make the case that anyone is impeding traffic if he’s right at the speed limit(which is the maximum safe speed, no matter how absurdly low it’s set, by law).

The realization that I am now behind them definitely gets some people. A kid did that a few weeks ago. Just for giggles, I chased him for a while, but didn’t go out of my way. It was funny though with all the hand waving and gas hitting and mirror checking though!

Lol, that would be a fun game

I think there’s a power dynamic at play in some cases. Like the person behind is feeling some kind of power by pushing like that.

So I do the switcheroo!

Ok, Now I’m In Charge!!! Only if they’re observably spooked though. Most people just move right along. When they slow down and check their mirror then hit the gas, you have to chase them.

Yeah maybe. In my case I’ll use the left lane on the highway between cities, I’m usually cruising about 90 and just want to get down the road. Just a little scoot to the right like old times and I’ll be out of sight in a minute.

Oh, I know! I’ve been to DFW!

I just meant on regular 2 lane roads.

Most of ours around here run next to creek beds, and are curvy as hell. One I used to drive alot crosses back & forth over railroad tracks 7 times over about 5 miles. The RR tracks are relatively straight. The road is like something out of a video game though.

I drive a truck but I don’t want to get into an accident because the other person could have a kid in there and it could also end up involving other vehicles.

Not if the law is passing lane only. Doesn’t matter how fast you are going. If you’re not passing someone, move right.

Maximum safe speed doesn’t need to come up.

Let’s say everyone in the right lane is traveling at the speed limit. That would mean anyone in the left lane is violating the law. So we’d just be losing a lane on the interstate/highways.

If you’re passing someone who is traveling at the speed limit, you’re violating the law. Do we really want these laws strictly enforced?

I agree. It’s fucking horrible having to deal with idiots blocking traffic in the left lane, but the solution is getting rid of speed limits…not asking for enforcement of yet another victimless offense.

Not if we just want to lose the left lane altogether.

Which is exactly why they should move over
