Hypothyroidism Question

hi all i am new to T-Nation. i have a few questions about hypotyhroidism if any one can help

i guess i should ask the question duh when i am on my thyroid medicine for about 1 month it seems to give me mood swings when i’m off of it i am fine but if i am off for too long then the othe rend of the spectrum comes in. heavy depression hopelessness uselessness unworthy no ambition or energy. these were the symptoms that lead to my doctor checking the thyroid. my medication gets adjusted due to the level of thyroid that is needed. but it has never been to much to cause overdosing to the extent of my maniacal mood swings. other than a .44 and a quiet wooded area any suggestions?

I’m a bit confused. You only notice these symptoms after taking the meds for a month straight? Are you just recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism?

This sounds like a potentially heavy situation, and you should definitely double-check with your endocrinologist, not an internet forum. And make sure you specify those symptoms to them.

How are you with diet and exercise? Because those can definitely help with the lack of energy and depression.

But first and foremost, check with a qualified doc.

i stared out with the symptoms got on the meds then noticed the mood swings and craziness very very short patients they wanted to put me on prozac and some other stuff. i said something else had to be wrong. i then stopped taking the meds and went back to normal for about 1 month or so. an endocrinologist was seen and she didn’t really offer much more advice or help. i figured i’d try here to see if there was any naturall ways to improve this other than those recomended by my doc

oh he also said when i told him about my irritability that “maybe you are just an irritable person” he is the 4th doc i am no longer seeing

I usually defer to medical professionals, but that’s flat-out unprofessional and inexcusable.

Like I said, how’s your diet and training plan? Lifting iron can be great, cheap therapy. And a deadlift 3-rep max can feel better than a week’s-worth of Prozac.

How old are you? You might want to read some of the threads in the Over-35 forum, on the chance that your symptoms are more hormonal-based (as in, a natural decrease in Test).

Not sure what else I can recommend, man. Sorry.

hey i appreciate all insight thanks for your time

The Iron is the best antidepressant I have ever found. There is no better way to fight weakness than with strength. Once the mind and body have been awakened to their true potential, it??s impossible to turn back.

The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you??re a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black.

I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds. - Henry Rollins.
