How to Use Straps?

Hi,

I just bought some straps because I do heavy deadlifts followed by 3-4 sets of stiff leg deadlifts for reps, and my grip tends to be so fucked i end up dropping the bar before my posterior has had a good workout.

So, i’m looking at these straps and i’m not really sure how to use them…can anyone explain?

cheers

I was told by a trainer at my gym that it was better to work on the grip before even thinking straps.

From what I have read about them, you wrap them round the bar so that they effectively self tighten and put them under your hands…

You wrap them COUNTER to the direction that your fingers wrap.

This is somewhat embarrassing, but when I first started using straps, I wrapped the wrong direction. This is a bad, bad idea, since it makes it way harder to hold onto the bar. I ended up hurting my back  Thinking back on it, I should have tested them out deadlifting something lighter than 90% of max.

Loop it on your wrist, then wrap the dangling piece around the bar wear you plan to grip it.

But then you are always grip limited.

I believe straps have their place, just not for every lift.

If you wait to use them until your grip starts to give out you are improving both your grip and the rest.
