How to Train in Hot Weather?

Hello guys👋
My problem is that there’s so much heat, temperature so high this summer, as every summer of course, but the thing is you really feel tired cause even in the morning 9-11 am is 32°…
So what I want to ask is how am I dealing with it as far as it concerns my training ?
I deload and continue with big lifts(what I’m doing for the past few days but my strength is like is gone

Fans, aircon, airy clothing, water/electrolytes etc.

Might want to give yourself some time to adapt also. When it’s a run of 30 + degree days here it’s usually shit house the first few days then it gets better with time. Big fans blasting in my face helps also.

So do you think its a good idea that I actually work with lighter weights just for maintainance?

Pretty sure fans can actually inhibit the bodies ability to self-cool via sweating. Best thing you can do is to recognize that it’s okay to train in high temperatures, as long as you’re staying hydrated (sustaining enough electrolytes during the session), and staying out of the sun, you’ll avoid any problems.

I train in a non-insulated garage in the south east US. Very humid and hot summers. Brutal training, but I just take it as training variable. If I can do x or y in intense heat, then imagine what I can do in an indoor gym at a contest or something (I compete regularly.)

I competed in full sun on a 37.5C/100F day. I was glad I wasn’t training in an airconditioned gym.

That said, they probably should have moved the show. It was awful.

LOL, yeah man. My first contest was of a similar circumstance. I had a construction job out of high school so it was nothing for me. Either way, people were keeled over fucking vomiting and finding wet rags to keep on their necks and heads all throughout the day. I kinda like it even though it can be very dangerous for those not prepared.

Lol it sure sounds difficult, I really find it hard to keep it up…
I think Ill just continue with lighter weights and I really wonder how can u make it through what you just described!

It’s tough. I was in Mexico on vacation for a week and tried to get a couple of training days in. No A/C in the gyms in town, and even at 8:30 am it’s already hot and humid and all around brutal. I certainly couldn’t get in a strong training session, but did what I could.

I would say just do what you can, drink lots of fluids, and don’t push yourself too hard in that heat. Also, if you have access to pools or the ocean, try getting some exercise in that way.

You really understand me then !!
I’m not exactly a fan of ac cause it can actually cause a lot of problems but when facing these kind of temperatures I find it hard even to get up early :joy:
That’s what I’m planning to do but sometimes I feel sad as I can feel that I cant have the save performance as I used to in normal weather circumstances !

I train at 4:30 AM before the sun comes up. It also has the benefit of keeping the wasps at bay.

Can I ask you how can you manage and wake up at this time???

I go to bed at 9. Getting up that early and getting enough sleep is very simple math if you are willing to do it.

I’m also married with a kid and the morning is the only real alone time I get, so I love it and don’t have any significant motivation issues. However, having everything you need (drinks, supplements, coffee, clothing, equipment) ready to go the night before makes getting going a lot easier for me.

Can I ask you, this way of training and living if I could say that too, did you notice something more about energy, gains, psychology (I mean getting up that early and live while everybody else sleep which I find really good), etc following that or the same as before you used to train evening/morning at 9-11 am
I mean did this time helped you to reach your goals significantly better?

I’ve trained for a long time (20+ years) and done a lot of different things at a lot of different times of life and through a lot of different priorities. It’s hard to compare apples to apples. I can say that where I am in my life and goals now, I much prefer this schedule. There is nothing that interests me enough to stay up at night anymore and the earlier I get finished with work, the more time I get with my daughter in the evening.

For reaching goals, it depends on you and what the goals are. I am training low volume high frequency at the moment which works great for being fasted. It hasn’t significantly held me back from doing anything and it helps me get the training in every day. When you train that early, alone, nothing that happens during the day can get in the way of training. If crap happens, at least the training is done.

I’ve been living in Hanoi, and I drink twice as much water a day as I do when I’m in the States. The heat just killed my squat and dead lift, so some days I just accept that I’m doing lighter weight until my body adjusts and other days I experiment with new (for me), lighter exercises like goblin squats. I’ve also been talking some time off from the gym and focusing on body weight exercises, in part because I need to lose weight so I’m eating less. Your body will tell you when you are pushing too hard; listen to it.

The heat index down South in the U.S has been over 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

I’ve been rucking a lot, and when it comes down to it water, and something that’ll let the sweat roll concerning clothing are fairly important.

On the times where I’ve trained with weights outside, let yourself rest for as long as you need to.

When you start feeling nauseated, or cold in certain parts despite it being hot, or light headed either call it a day, or rest for quite a bit.

And stay drinking water or something with electrolytes or salts in it.

I really find it difficult to adjust not to say that I dropped the weight 20 KGS already that I actually lift…
The worst part is that gym doesn’t use the aircodition so much so its quite a problem having to move among people sweat etc
