I recently watched this video: (it was just uploaded 13 minutes ago)
However, even though a Pendlay Row can build up my deadlift, I can’t bend my back down that far? I tried stretching before but I still can’t get down that far without rounding my back.
Raise the plates higher at the start. Put them on an elevated surface.

Thanks. I have been trying to become super flexible and it was not working. This might be more helpful. Thanks for this. I am assuming I can just put it on a rack.
Hey Bulldog, you can do Pendlay rows with smaller 5 lb plates. There is no reason to believe Pendlay rows can’t be done without the ability to do 135 lb deadlifts. If anything it should help.
Depending on the width of your rack and the width of your grip, this may be a bad idea.
your claiming you cant do 135 on the deadlift in another thread and your worried about Pendlay rows?

Yeah it’s pretty obvious isn’t it. Not wasting time on this… I’m grabbing my popcorn and watching also.

In fairness, the narrative actually fits. If he can’t deadlift 135, he can’t row 135, which means doing Pendlay rows with smaller than 45lb plates, which would require more flexibility compared to rowing with 45lb plates.

It’s more than that… So I’m stearing clear until I’m certain. Off subject… Just got and reading forever 5/3/1 like it better than beyond.
For sure. Great book. Something you can just hand to someone and be like “Here: now you know how to lift”

In a perfect world …yes .But we have both been around long enough too know a large % would find a way to turn it into a shit show.

Oh for sure. The 5/3/1 Forum blows my mind. People STILL have stupid questions, despite being given the keys to the kingdom of 5/3/1.

But, bro, I just want to tweak these 15 things, is that okay?!?!?

From what I have seen on here and other places… I question how many people have actually read his books? I swear I think some are just going by what they have been able to scrape up online! Considering when other want to bash it, they tend to use the very first underdeveloped version as the bases of a argument.

Considering we had a guy on here claiming 5/3/1’s “base form” is just the 5/3/1 progression… I’d venture to say you’re probably right.

It’s still baffling because I got a pretty good understanding of the program from the free stuff released on T-Nation. I didn’t feel like I was learning a ton of new stuff once I got Beyond. I was just getting new assistance templates and challenges.
I must admit I’m not all that attracted to what the program has become. Doing 5’s PRO sucked. Leaders and Anchors and all the new stuff just turned me off.

yeah i can understand that. I just got the book so im digesting the new content myself.
I was doing a work thing where I was collecting information from different areas.
I would explain something then asked a question. To my first 3 groups, there was maybe 1 person who answered the question I asked, the rest amswered whatever other question they heard. You could never have guessed that the answers were to the same question.
It knocked my confidence a bit thinking I was having trouble communicating.
So, I asked a friend and my partner to draw what I was saying. And both got it.
Go back to the next meeting, ask everyone to draw what I’m saying before asking my question… now i was getting good answers.
I used to think Rippleskin was an idiot for saying beginners couldn’t do some of the most basic things but I’m on his side now (maybe not his methods). Not many people can remember information and also think.
That’s why books can be great but also not so great. Peoole forget, fill in blanks, read stuff wrong… all sorts of fucked up shit.

I am amazed how much time I spent on that. The philosopher in me couldn’t cope. Such a weird situation to claim that something is something else, irrespective of what the author says, due to popular and incorrect opinion.

How inflexible would one have to be to not be able to do a Pendlay row? I don’t understand this.
Can you post a video?
