High Rep Clean & Press the Ultimate Conditioning Exercise?

I’m jealous of the gyms you guys work out in… I see power racks and padded floors and all this nice room/equipment. The one I lift in is god aweful, for soccer moms.[/quote]

If it makes you feel any better, I C&P on a concrete slab in front of my house using old rubber freezer doors from a meat locker as “mats”. The ceilings are too low in my shop to press overhead, so I had the pleasure of lifting in the rain last night. It sucked at first, but towards the end I was like “Man…that’s refreshing” lol

LOL. i used to train in a barn back in Ireland.

I now train in 3 hardcore gyms, all have competitive bb, pl, wl and strongmen on their books. and a few fitness athletes…

If we end up doing deadlift 315 for max reps, no straps. Only chalk.

second the now straps or suits

find or guess your 10 rep max with clean and push press. figger out 50%, 75%, 100% of that
at the top of the minute, do 5 with 50%, at the top of the next minute, 5 with 75%, at the top of the next do 5 with 100%. Skip the next whole minute, it will be about 1:30-1:40
repeat.
I’d do it from the hang.
If you can do 5 series of these, add weight.
This layout is kicking the snot out of me.

I tried the original idea that was proposed (185 lb clean & press, every rep from the floor, no breaks) at the end of my leg workout today. (Although I did jerks instead of presses.) I thought I’d be able to get close 10, but lacked the willpower to continue after 6. I think clean & jerks are a good option for conditioning, you just need to find the right load. If you’re conditioning for sports, I think 135 is too light for most guys. Plays in most team sports do not go over 10 seconds, 20 seconds max. In my opinion it’s better to train the body to be able to repeatedly produce near max power with short recovery periods than to use lighter weights and extend the set far beyond the length of a typical play in your sport.

no one else giving this a shot?

.greg.

Sorry about my lack of vids fellas. I work out in my buddys warehouse and he’s been in the hospital so I don’t have anyone to film me. He should be getting out in a couple of days so I’ll make sure the first thing I ask him is if he can stop being selfish and film my lift.

I gave it a shot today but I couldn’t finish it because something happened with my knee. I had been doing ME squats before this, so I probably hurt myself there but I didn’t feel much until I started with the cleans.

Anyway, I got to 8 or 9 reps in something like 30-40 seconds before I gave up. I think I might have been able to keep going, I wasn’t really tired and the speed was still good, but I didn’t want to risk it. I’ll give it another go when my knee is better.

god, this place is full of pussys.

I’m a pussy because I didn’t want to take an unnecessary risk with my knee? Meh, perhaps you’re right. This is the second time in a short time that my knee has been acting up after ME squats so maybe I’m becoming overly paranoid.

Challanges like these are fun though and that’s the only reason why I made a post saying that I tried, I wanted to keep the thread going.

When was this place never full of pussies. Anyway I tried your little challange and it left me feeling miserable and defeated ha ha ha which is great so thanks!!!

I noticed people talking about deadlifting for reps, I did 215kg for 10 last week which went against my normal training (and common sense) which has more of a scope towards strength but it was great I literally crawled out of the gym and all in one set. Anyone else ever try crazy shit like that before?

Uhh, Dude? Those weren’t cleans. You reverse curled and pressed that. I’m impressed.

^^yeah and we switched it from 185 to 135… Drop the weight down and see how many you can get. Thats good with 185 though!

I was just thinking today about doing this again and how no one had been giving their results. I decided to do snatches instead (never done them) and it was fun. I’ll probably try again with C&P in a day or two

I’ve been doing c&j at 95 lbs in sets of 3, about 30-45 seconds rest in between, with my last set at 105 lbs. Usually about 12 reps total before my form breaks down and I call it quits.

I’ll have to drop the weight if I want to do it without the rest. I’ve been doing squat cleans also. I don’t think I could do it with a clean and press though. I’m 134 lbs right now.

I did what I just described above yesterday. I’ll try it with less weight and how you guys are doing it in a couple of days.

What should the C&P be for girls? (no offense Debra) Does 95lbs sound good or is that too heavy?

Thats impressive cleaning though Deb! At least your giving it a shot. All this talk about people trying it and there has been like 3 of us actually do it lol. I’m gonna get over 20 next time for sure

Running Cressey’s Max Strength right now, and did 185 after my last leg day last week and got 5, but no vid. My boy’s out of the hospital so I’ll get a vid up sometime this week fa sho. Y’all want a vid of 185 or 135? 135 would probably be less taxing overall but would suck more.

135 seems to be a weight that people can actually get “high reps” on (12+)… See what you can get on the 135

Will do man.
