High Rep Clean & Press the Ultimate Conditioning Exercise?

FWIW- I tried this a few days ago. I got 185 x 14 ( I weigh 238lbs.). I was done for the day! Literally! Went home and got into a steady routine of eating and sleeping all day long. I ate 5.5lbs. of meat over the course of the day and evening.

Damn 14… yea I couldnt imagine doing 14 straight CnP with 185 and doing ANYTHING else.

Quick question, were your legs sore the next day? What was sore? I never get particularly sore from CnPs

For me the only thing that’s ever gotten sore from c&p’s are my neck and traps. But, don’t think I’ve ever gone above 5 reps so that could change with higher reps.

oh fuck yea, this sounds awesome, i do these for warmups, but with 95 lbs… i can’t go over 135 though, being the weaksauce that i am.

Nothing is really sore. My traps have a very deep fatigue. My core is also really fatigued. Towards the end it got tough to hold the press out. The last 2 were jerks.

The clean and jerk isn’t really supposed to be done for high reps. It’s a power development exercise that requires impeccable technique or you can get hurt. As you fatigue, technique falls apart and people can get hurt. Just because it’s popular in crossfit workouts does not mean it’s a “good” thing to do.

Agreed., but at the weight we intend on performing (and usually the weight they use in crossfit)), I dont think anyone will get hurt. When you start moving up in poundage, then definitely yes.

I’m late to the party, but why not just do these and get as many reps as people can in a set amount of time? That would eliminate any judgments regarding how long someone is resting and whether it is too long.

is this up yet?

Ive got a 100kg/225lb log for max reps in 90 seconds in September. Im aiming for 10 so Im keen on entering this challenge.

Not that it matters, im 320lbs and about 30% BF. Can the big fat boys come show the shredded kids that we are fit too?

can I add in one thing thou… keeping your hands on the bar is surely a tad dangerous especially in a fatigued state, lower back, shoulder injuries come to mind and bicep tears.

Not better to drop the bar from the overhead and just make sure your straight onto it again for the next rep.

Yea without a doubt, someone above mentioned most reps in a given time, I think that’s pretty smart. We should just do that then. Canwe agree on a time? 90 seconds? 2 minutes?

That’s actually a fantastic idea. Like Dymdez said, what’s the time?

Dude, if you’re getting a 225lb log for 10 reps in 90 seconds then we’re all just competing for 2nd…

Oh I’ve seen time and time again that fat boys can definitely be fit.
I’m not against it all man, lol but you might just be the only one in your bw weight range.

My vote on time would be for two minutes. Enough time to complete reps to failure, not enough for people to lolly gag.

That’s what I was thinking too, enough time for those with high endurance to shine, 90 seconds seems almost too short, not sure why.

Ok is anyone again 2 minutes? 135 lbs?

I think we are good to go, my wrists are starting to feel better too…

You mis read me, Thats the event in September and thats my target on comp day. Ive hit 4 in 90 secs so far.

got 6 in about 30 secs with a 80kg/177lbs log.

I also think dropping it once the rep is complete and getting back on the bar asap is better, as people could start to use to down portion as rest. I know I would.

Does it have to be C+P

Or is it just floor to overhead anyway, 135lbs in 2 minutes, all reps locked out and in control. Video to enter?
