Did some blood tests the other day and found out that my creatinine level was somewhat high, my urea not.
I consumed some protein two months ago or so and generally my nutrition is based on meat. Everything else was okay only creatine a little bit high.
I’m starting to get a little worried, do you guys think it maybe an indication for kidney insufficiency ?
I read somewhere that muscle mass plays an important role for that stuff creatine.
Do you think I should get worried, have someone experienced something similar?
What do you think?
There are many benign reasons serum creatinine can go up including dehydration, creatine supplementation, high protein diet, increased muscle mass, recent lifting, etc.
If your doctor checked it, I assume s/he plans to re-check at some point in the near future. If you self-ordered the labs, go see your doc and let him/her check it, along with related tests of renal function.
Doc said to check three months later, following a certain diet but Im stressed from these results.
I want to do more to find out if its something dangerous.
Do you think is something dangerous?
Do you know what other tests are for that?
I ultrasound my kidneys where fine, though he said we can’t rely on that for their function to be sure, so what other can I do to check them more?
Is creatinine a factor that alone determines a disorder ?
The uncertainty is clearly causing you significant stress. You should tell your doctor about how stressed you are, in the hope that s/he can give you some reassurance.
Well I do not consume creatine, but I train a lot, if I train a lot how can creatinine be at a right amount at any time if training stimulates in?
Again, the crux of the matter is that you’re very anxious about what is, apparently, an isolated lab abnormality. (I’m not judging you; I’m simply stating a fact.) That your doc thinks it’s ok to simply recheck it in a few months is reassuring. But if you’re unable to feel reassured by that, the thing to do is not to ask strangers on the internet questions they can’t answer–how on earth could I, or anyone else, know if it’s something dangerous?–but rather to talk to your doctor and tell him/her how upset/anxious you are about this, so that s/he can help you.
