has anyone else noticed what seems to be a correlation between an above average bench and a sub-par or just mediocre DL and visa-versa ? It is that way with me, my bench hovers right at elite (365ish@198lbs) and my best meet pull ever was 480@198lbs sumo.
I could total elite if it my DL didnt suck.I have also noticed at meets folks that pull big often put up less than stellar bench numbers. whats up with that?If I could find out maybe I can get my pull to a # im not kinda ashamed of while im still in my forties!(just turned 40).
This is kind of because the a good bencher body is the opposite of good DLer body. I consider myself well rounded at 17 274 got a 305 bench and a 425 deadlift, only have been able to deadlift a lot for the past maybe 2 months, before that I haven’t really. I could totally be wrong with what I am saying though.
it is what it is. Maybe focus your energy to learn everything about the mechanics of the deadlift. Apply an insane amount of attention to that lift and it’s sure to go up, if that’s what you want. generally speaking, people suck at things because they don’t put in the work to not suck. YMMV of course.

This is correct, think someone with short arms compared to everything else.
here is the link to my little DL 480@198/sumo. my conv.DL is 30lbs less.but I WILL pull in the high 5s oneday. And ive come alongway, ten years ago i could bench more than i could DL , so its a long road but i’ll get there T-Rex arms be damned!
