Help me Review These Iron Woody Bands

I was lucky enough to recieve #1 and #3 Iron Woody bands (one of each) to T-Jack review. I’ve fiddled with them a good bit in the hour I’ve had them and found some pretty cool stuff. If anybody has anything that they’d like for me to try, please post here or PM me. Please note that I only have one of each so I can’t squat/bench/etc Westside style with them.

Thanks, guys, for giving me the chance to try these things out. I think this program is one of the best things of the internet that’s not porn.

Strap them around your neck for dips.

Wrap them around the bar and your butt for assisted pullups. This will let you do the cool variations, like sternum neutral grip chins and such.

Wrap themaround your neck and do good mornings.

Wrap them around your ankle and have someone hold on to them for leg curls.

Various arm exercises, curls, extensions, etc.

Wrap them around your neck and DB for single-leg squats.

Let me toss two cool ideas at you. First, try pull-ups with added band resistance.

Loop your band under a dumbbell set on the floor, step through it for comfort, then loop the other end around your neck.

Perform one set in this manner. You’ll feel almost like you’re wearing a weight vest or a dipping belt with added plates, only the natural strength curve will be manipulated differently. The higher you go, the tougher it’ll get.

See next post for part II.

Here’s what the bottom half of that looks like.

Now, after doing pull-ups or chins with resistance, perform them with bodyweight only, then move on to what’s below in my next post.

Now set up the band this way.

Basically, slip one knee into the loop and hold the top of the band with both hands. Now, with your knee still in the loop, reach up and grab the bar. The band will be stretched between your hands and your grip will hold it in place. The band will act as your “training partner,” giving you a little boost to help you crank out a few extra reps.

Do all these in a row and you get a sort of drop set effect. Pretty cool and your lats will catch on fire!

I also got the bands today. I’ll definitley give those pullups a try. Keep posting different ideas and I’ll try them all before I write my review at the end of the week.

I was just messing around with them and worked up a pretty good sweat.

By the way, that’s one of my training partners in the photos, and yes, that’s a T-Nation tattoo.

You can also do dips with a single band, two different ways. Here one way.

Here’s another way to do dips. Again, we just have it wrapped around a dumbbell.

Incline flyes, single band, band under bench.

Lean away lateral raise, standing on band. Much tougher than it looks! Many don’t even need a dumbbell!

Standard flat dumbbell bench, band under back.

Single band hammer curl.

Ab work with single band.

A “wrong way pullover” for tri’s. This is where you get into a cross bench pullover position, but you bend the elbows and perform a triceps extension motion.

That should give all the Iron Woody band T-Jack reviewers some ideas to try out. These things are infinitely versatile.

I appreciate all of the ideas, guys. I was going to take today off until I got home and saw that these puppies were waiting for me in my apartment complex office. Some of the things I’ve tried so far:

Good mornings with the band under my feet and around the back of my neck, pull throughs with the band looped around the leg of my bed, standing crunches with the band looped on a pullup bar, all manner of assisted pullups, assisted single leg squats with the band looped on a pullup bar (this needs work, I fell on my ass every time I tried), band stomps as described by CT, and “weighted” pushups with the band across my back and under my palms.

All of these exercises were awesome.

My fiancee saw them and got excited about trying them out tommorrow. She doesn’t work out, but she is pretty naturally strong and muscular. Maybe these babies will help get her into the gym!

The person that once suggested this to me said he made the suggestion “half jokingly,” but I’ll throw it out there since you guys are the guinea pigs. Wrap bands around your ankles and leave only a little bit of slack. Run on a treadmill and the bands will give extra resistance. If you do try these, please be careful - if you feel like you might trip, stop, then post that this was the stupidest idea ever. I can take it. I just want to know if this is viable or not.

Is it me, or does Chris look like an angry young man in his avatar?

Wow, that pull-up trick sure beats hauling a weight vest to the gym or tryng to hold a dumbbell between my feet. I’ll have to pick up a band or two. Any suggestion on which one? The poundage or whatever it’s called?

Thanks for the ideas… Keep them coming. I got around to ordering the starter kit (#1-#3). I can’t wait to get them.

Got mine yesterday afternoon. Can’t wait to try some of your suggestions. Another idea is from elite fitness - do tricep extensions with the bar behind your back and looped around the ends of the bar. Did you ever do the ab excercise where you raise your legs and a partner pushes them back down as you resist? Rather than a partner, loop the band around your ankles and a stationary object.
