Hash House Harriers

Really, has anyone ever heard of this? I’ve recieved a few PMs from people wondering what my avater is, and another from a lifter here wanting to go, but I was wondering if anyone else knew.

IMO, everyone should check it out. I’ve known runners that use it for their speedwork, lifters who used it for their weekly cardio, and fatties that use it as their only form of exercise. And I’ve been outrun by all three.

I’ll be happy to help anyone who wants to check it out find their nearest kennel (there’s about 2000 all over the world), and answer any Hashing questions I can.

I always wanted to try, but the one near me meets on Sunday morning, and since I rarely drink or run on Sunday ( as I do both on Saturday, but not together, run first, then drink) I never go.

i went hashing for a buddies b-day once. fun times!

Did it from 1979 until I wrecked my hip a few years ago. (Cyprus, Libya, Saudi, NYC, UK, Sweden, Belgium.)Love the anarchy and punishing the FRBs.

Sounds cool, Nothing going on near me that I can tell though. My area sucks, though I bet we would have a good hash here, utica is where the distance running hall of fame is and we host the utica boilermaker which is a pretty big road race every year. Strong track and cross country programs in this area also.

This looks awesome.
I reckon I’ll check out the Hash in Brooklyn this weekend.
Thanks for the info!

Sorry bro, but mentioning ‘Hashing’ and ‘racing’ in the same paragraph is a sure way to earn yourself a down down. We call people who race, ‘racists.’

I’d be happy to find your nearest kennel. PM me if you’re actually interested.

I only meant to imply that there is a pretty good group of people in this area that do run already. And seeing as the utica boilermaker finishes at the Matts Brewery, where free food and beer is handed out to all runners, I’m sure a lot of them would be down with hashing. The boilermaker is only a race for the top 100 people, everyone else just runs it for personal goals or for fun. You get a lot of people running in funny costumes and just having a good time all around. One year a kid ran it dressed as a can of utica club beer, which he would later be drinking at the finish line.
It’s all good though. I am pretty sure if there was a HHH anywhere near me I would have heard of it by now. That type of thing would be a big hit here as I already mentioned.

I’ve had a few friends who did this, and it sounds interesting, but then I remember there’s running involved.

AND BEER! I wouldn’t worry about the running too much. A proper trail should have enough twists and false trails that a skilled short cutter can walk it in the same time a the most frenetic runners. Being a good SCB is a position of honour in a hash.
