I’m gonna move to Baltimore in the next couple months. I have spent some time on the web looking for gyms in the area. I can’t find a whole lot. It looks like Gold’s is very active out there. I would like to find somewhere to train for powerlifitng. I would also like to get into strongman. I could even get into a little O lifting. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Starkmann
P.S. is it just me or is Pennsylvania the most active state in strength training in the country. They seem to have two powerlifting meets and a strongman every freaking month.
Ohh yeah I forgot, Supreme Sports club but its like expensive if you don’t have a membership to the county, well its more expensive its expensive enough as it is.

I just moved to Baltimore as well. I moved to Highlandtown, so I was scoping out gyms in that area. I went to Merritt Athletic Club on Boston St, Canton Club on Boston St, Golds at the Power Plant, and Brick Bodies downtown. I decided on Canton Club because it is close to where I live, has what I need, is not flashy, and is in my price range. I wouldn’t say it is a “powerlifting” gym by any means, but it has plenty of weight.
If you are going to be south or west of Baltimore, check out the Colosseum in Columbia. They have a bunch of powerlifters and some bodybuilders there, and today hosted the Maryland’s Strongest Cop powerlifting meet. Definitely a lot of great lifting happening.
Sweet info, I don’t know exactly where I will be living. I leave on the 23rd to do some apartment hunting. Then it’s back Colorado until whatever aparment I pick opens up and I get some work lined up. I will definitly PM some people back if I need more info on their suggested gtms. I appreciate the help thus far.

Baltimore City, or outside of Baltimore?[/quote]
Update: I’m about to call to reserve my apartment. It is in Vernon Hill area (I think that’s what they call it) north of the harbor by the symphony hall. But it looks like I’ll be downtown a lot. I made some phone calls and I think I may be able to end up working at John’s Hopkins and eventually finishing my education over at U of Maryland.
While i’m talking about maryland, I checked ot Merritt in Ownings Mills. That place sucked. No where to squat not to mention dead. They did say theri downtown club has that equipment. I’ll check it out when I come back next month.
Thanks for the help. If anyone else has other suggestions; I’m listening.
Depending on my schedule, I overnight at BWI fairly often and I use the Australian Fitness Center which is a couple of miles north of the airport. It has squat racks, a deadlifting platform, plenty of benches, machines, and a ton of cardio equipment. I highly recommend it. Good Luck
Anyone know of any good powerlifting gyms near Gaithersburg? I’ve looked around on the internet and cannot find anything. It’s getting old spending half of my workout explaining to people why I’m using powerbands.
Also, I’m looking for some training partners who are looking to constantly improve and work hard. Anyone out there in the area?

There’s a gym in Rockville (right near White Flint mall) called Planet Fitness. It’s frequented by a fair amount of serious strength and athletic coaches. The setup is no-nonsense and it has plenty of power racks. Plus it’s relatively cheap. Give it a look.
