I am moving to Baltimore MD in a couple months and I wanted to know if anybody knew of any powerlifting gyms in the area. I figured there would at least be one given that its a major city.
I looked at powerliftingwatch.com but it only had two for MD and one was hardly a powerlifting gym. if anybody knows of one let me know. . . im a weak bitch so im always looking for a lifting partner in that area. 1RM bench = 245 Deadlift = 425 Squat (dont laugh I have long legs) = 245
Crap, I thought for a second you knew of some in the area. Whereabout in the area do you plan on moving?
There’s a couple chain gyms on the eastside that are ok-
Gold’s in Dundalk: It has 1 power rack, 2 squat racks, Nautilus plate loaded machines, DBs up to 125, and a cardio theater that plays movies. The last one is nice for low intensity cardio if you’re into that sort of thing.
Energy Fitness in Essex: It used to be a Powerhouse so don’t let the name fool you. It has 2 power racks, 3 squat racks, 2 leg presses, Hammer Strength plated loaded machines, and DBs up to 140.
Both places have some guys that can move some weight (more at the Energy Fitness), and they’re ok about using chalk or making noise. Just don’t be obnoxious with either though.
What side of Baltimore are you moving to, North or South? If you are willing to drive, I know some people about 45 minutes north of Baltimore that run a private PLing gym. I can put you in contact with them.
Or, if you really like to drive - I’m down in the Fairfax, VA, area and I’m looking for additional lifters to my garage gym
hahah man that sounds great, but Fairfax is a bit of a drive. . . . I am actually just starting Cresseys Maximum strength so I am trying to really try and increase strength with some clear cut goals for the first time ever I guess. . . .
I am moving to Canton, btw. Essex is close. . . I just hate going to shitty ass golds which has NO power racks, and ONE squat rack its fuckin terrible. Every time I deadlift anything over 300 I expect to see a librarian pop out from behind the treadmill and say “Shhhhhhhh”
The Colosseum Gym in Columbia, MD is PL friendly, but its a good 20-30 min drive for you. The Downtown Athletic Center (Merritt Athletic Club) near Mt Vernon is where I lift, but I’m an oly lifter. A friend of mine who is a seasoned PL’er also lifts here due to lack of other good options for those who live in the city. He’s never mentioned anything about management or members complaining.

As mentioned before the Gold’s in Dundalk, which is also close to you, has 3 useable racks and they’re ok about making noise.
