Good Shoes for Squat?

What’s a good shoe for squatting at the gym? I am not looking to pick up dedicated squatting shoes for powerlifting; just shoes to replace my running shoes that I am wearing at the gym now.

Thanks,

Get yourself a pair of Chuck hightops.

Chucks!

The above mentioned, but personally I go barefoot on Legs Day.

Thanks!

Adidas samba, chucks, or vans old skool (personal favorite). Hard and flat sole that don’t give is the best.

Nike Frees

If you are a med/narrow stance squatter, I would find something with a little bit of a heel. If you go wide, Chucks will do.

I go wide because I am still working through some flexibility issues. I’m about an inch high on my squats.

I dare you to try barefoot for a few weeks.

Barefoot is where its at.

I saw these on a site I belive they are designed purly for squating, so you might want to cheeck into it.

LOL. My Nike Frees already ripped on me while playing basketball. I stitched it up and now it looks like its about to rip again when I squat.

Timberland Boots

the old school adidas pro model high tops are great. all leather and much sturdier than chucks, completely molded with no stitching on the sole. run about 50-60 bucks full price and you can find them much cheaper online

Most people prefer to squat in shoes because it gives them something to push out against when they are trying to spread the floor with their feet.

Barefoot squatting can be dangerous. I don’t know about you but my feet sweat when I do any athletic activity. Imagine your feet slipping when you try to spread the floor.

I wear socks. That seems to be fine. I have rubber mats on top of the carpet, so they offer good grip if only wearing socks.

But I also train at home (however, I have trained in the gym with just socks on in the past with no problems).

I just saw these. How do these compare to the Converse mentioned earlier? Do they hold up better? I have never had any good luck with Nike.
