Good Beginner Program

I need a good beginner program for someone who has never lifted before and is looking to get into shape. Not really looking to be Mr. Olympic but is quitting smoking, looking to live a healthier lifestyle etc. and is probably 25-30 lbs overweight.

Really want a program I can put him on that progresses over the first couple of weeks so he can get the hang of all the exersizes and then can reassess in 8-10 weeks with another program and new goals.

He is planning on lifting 3 days a week with 2-3 for cardio/intervals once healthy enough.
