Lol, i think he’s just saying this to show off a little. 945lbs is obviously a decent weight on the leg press. I press between 400 & 550lbs in reps of 6-10 for good volume.
I could maybe get a 1 or 2 with that amount of weight.

No joke - just trying to gauge the field as it were - I really have no basis to compare with - and my trainer seems to be impressed, but I am doing nothing really special just hitting them hard.
I am 163lbs, 5’6"
Honestly - (maybe a little showing off) - but heck I feel good about that level of weight - it shows the hard work is paying off…

Hello folks - I am progressing nicely (I think) on a flat out strength building phase now, and have been for a few months.
I hit a personal milestone of being able to press 8 X 945lbs (20 plates) on the incline leg press.
This was during pyramid runs up from 4 plates total, to 20 plates total with decreasing reps, and increase plates on each set.
Just curious as I have never been in this territory before - is this an average weight, or above average.

Thats a fairly impressive number, especially considering your height/weight. Personally, I am nowhere near that, maybe about half of that (but I also had knee surgery awhile back and lost a lot of strength)
The real question though, is how much can you squat? Leg press and squats are two totally different animals.
I can do 9 plates on each side for 5 reps so I could probably do 10 for 1. The leg press is easy for me for some reason. I’m just like you, started with 4 on each side about a year ago and have progressed from there. My legs have blown up since then and I have to buy new shorts this summer. Good job on the milestone.
at 163 lbs and you say its been a few months i dont believe it. if by few you mean 2-3 months then i highly doubt it(unless you’ve been training for longer than that, just not the leg press). i once tried that thing with 8 plates each side and couldnt do it. 5 felt easy. idk ill try for 6-7. i never do leg press though. but still im 220 pounds, not 163…

Sorry - been training for over 3 years, last few months I focused on legs at a much higher level, pushing weight each week etc

Exactly! everything else is so-so, but this one exercise I just kept going up up up on

I don’t have access to a 45 degree leg press, but I think I could press a brazilian pounds.[/quote]
You got it - I am going to heavy up again like this in about two weeks - trainer does not want to go that high week after week - it will look weird, but I will bring in my brother with a vid camera - I still have the flash backs of all those plates above me as I was moving them - ahhggg
There are so many variables… range of motion, brand of machine, angle of incline, etc. A leg press number means nothing. If you’ve been lifting for 3 years and squat 245lbs, work on your squat. If that’s 245kgs, that’s better than average.

Absolutely. Even the friction from a different bearing type (or age, or lube, etc) can make a big difference once you’re getting up in weight. Plus, everyone I see with a lot of plates on the machine drastically reduces their range of motion to the equivalent of a quarter squat.
Stick with real weights and do the machines after you’re too tired to lift them safely.
i think a squat is safer cause its easy to pop out the bottom if you get pinned, unless you rip your quads off. IF you tear something on a leg press i imagine its hard to get out from that though.
