Just curious but does anyone know techniques that might help increase one’s height? I am 19 so i think I have room to grow and would like to use any benefits possible to up my height more…
Die, be born again, choose taller parents. In other words, it’s just not possible. It’s all genes.
I think there were some con artist sites out there claiming to sell height increasing supplements and training program, but they were sued by the FDA or whatever and closed down.
You can’t increase your height through training but you can make sure you don’t injure yourself. I have read that if you lift too close to your 1 rep max that you might cause your growth plates to prematurely fuse. I wouldn’t drop below 3 reps. Also mantain good form.
If anyone else reads this, have you heard this too? Is it correct or is it just a myth?

I really don’t think that lifting even with maximal loads will cause your growth plates to fuse. If this were the case, then being fat would surely have a much greater effect on height considering a person carries their own weight around all day as opposed to lifting for an hour or so. Back to the original posters question, I think at 19 your body is pretty much done with any vertical growing it’s going to do.
Hang upside-down on a set of monkey bars. It worked for Bobby Brady, didn’t it?
I honestly believe Nutrition is the key. There is a reason why ALL of us are taller than our parents, and they were taller than their parents.
I could be wrong…then again, teenage girls develop earlier too…my theory is that there’s something in the diet coke.

That’s not necessarily true. I gained 2 inches after high school.
Of course, that brought to a towering 5’6".
To whomever said at 19 you are done growing, you are wrong. I was 6’3" at 21 and am now 6’6".
Here is how I got so tall . . . I used to tie both hands together to one car, and both feet together to another car going in the opposite direction. This is pretty tricky because if the cars go too far or fast, you can be torn apart. But, for about an hour a day, just being stretched like that added a good three inches.
Seriously, though, I think that the human bone grows at appx a mm a day. They have very expensive, painful, and enduring procedures that will crack your bone, put the fractured bone under traction and let the bones heal slightly longer over a very long time. Rinse and repeat.
of course, proportionality it lost, unless you do it to all appendages at the same rate.
long story short, your stuck with your genes.

My dad grew till he was 22. I stopped at 18 when I started lifting.
I would simply mantain good form. There aren’t huge advantages to doing 1 rep maxes when your training age is young anyway.
That would make sense except that generations before us ate FAR better than the present generation does (I almost wrote “better than we do” but that wouldn’t apply here now would it). That’s why obesity is at an all-time high and is showing no signs of stopping.
There’s a theory that the girls’ developing earlier is due to phytoestrogens in the environment. It’s giving them bigger breasts too. All sounds good until you realize men are receiving the same contamination.

Making sure that all your postural muscles are well trained is a start.Spinal decompressions can help ALLOW you to MAINTAIN your height while continuing to lift heavy (for example:pull up bar hangs with contract relax stretching after any heavy axial load training i.e. squats, deads). Adding reverse hyper work to your routine would be a plus.Barring this, it is 95% nutrition and genetics and I agree that you probably are not done growing yet.peace…
On a ‘lighter’ note, try to get into space. I hear some interesting things are happening to bone growth in zero-G (also increasing brittleness, but you’ve got to take the good with the bad!)
Get plenty of quality food in you as possible.
Sleep! Get as much quality sleep as you can.
Proper posture and stretching can help.
You are limited to what the genes give you. You can hurt your progress by poor food. You can really hurt your progress if you do not get enough sleep.
I know someone who was way below the growth charts because of sleep apnea (adenoids were too large). Once the adenoids were removed the growth rate returned to normal. Poor sleep poor growth.
Its all genetics. I started messing around with weights when my brother started highschool. I was 12. I wasnt power lifting or anything but I started getting built. Im not sure how tall I was at the age of twelve, but Im 6’2 right now.
Umm outside of good nutrition and plenty of sleep, I don’t think there is much you can do. If your growth plates haven’t closed then hGH could help but that needs to be prescribed and costs a shitload of money. You’re stuck with what your genes give you.
Improve your posture, you’ll look and stand taller.
I remember reading somewhere that after a set of heavy squats you actaully shrink. Call me crazy, but I am almost positive I read it on here. Due to the compression of your spinal cord (nothing bad, just happens when you shoulder heavy weights). You can remedy this buy hanging from chin up bar after each set. I try to do this, i can feel my body kind of “unfold” itself. Or I could be full of shit.

Height is an interplay between genes and environment. Genes determine your potential and nutrition and other environmental factors will determine how much of that potential you realize. Like just about every other trait.
And like every other trait, there has not been sufficient selective pressure over the last few dozen generations to shift the genetic potential of the population. We have the same genes our parents had and their parents and their parents all the way back to the Bronze Age or thereabouts. Mean height has thus fluctuated over time–but we’re not getting taller. I believe, for instance, that ancient Japanese (e.g. about 1.500 years ago, or maybe it was longer) had a mean male height of about 6 ft. It has subsequently decreased mostly because of diet. Japanese kids coming to the U.S. or eating Western diets tend to wind up being about the same height as children of European ancestry. Ditto that with whatever ethnic group you want. So major switches in diet equal increased height. Sure. But for the majority of the population height has stayed about the same each generation.
Now mean girth has certainly dramatically increased from generation to generation. But, again, realization of genetic potential, not a shift in the actualy genes.
Okay so most of you have said that nutrition should be in check…I eat fairly healthy touching junky food maybe once a month but what should one concentrate on to promote height then. Higher concentration of calcium, lots and lots of milk?
Has anyone seen a pattern in people who are tall based on what they eat?
I agree genetics do play a role in it but there are people in my family that are fairly tall. During highschool i had a pretty shitty diet which I think might have affected my progress, after eating healthy for the past 2 years I have added a weeee bit more height but I guess there is no miracle solution to actually getting urself taller.
GOD I ENVY U TALL PPL!!!
The calcium in dairy is very hard to absorb. It is best to get your calcium from dark green veggies. If not then supplementation with magnesium and zinc as well…
