FFSG (fat fast support group)

Going to do the FF Monday. 3 quick q’s. Can I have regular coffee? Am a caffeine freak and need to know. I wouldn’t think this would hurt since I’ll be taking some thermogenics also and they do containe caffeine. Also after reading the diet it seems as if everyone needs the same caloric amt. since no note was made to increase or decrease the calories based on weight. I’m at 245 now and am 6’1 1/2" w/a bodyfat % of around 20%. Has anyone tried to do it w/o the cardio? If so what are your results? Thanks for the help fellas!

Day 5 here…and feeling damn good. I am totaly confused tho. Still gaining strength, keeping muscle size (if not gaining slightly) and am getting more toned around the midsection. Using the creatine, I have not gotten the flatness others have described, and have been not losing much weight…actually one pound in 5 days…but definetly more toned. With the results I am seeing…I am almost thinking of staying on this sucker for a while!!!

muslhead, I think coffee is ok, black coffee. I’ve been drinking it with equal to sweeten. Don’t know about the cardio, I’ve been doing 30 minutes after workout.

I don’t do any cardio. Prefer volume training. I drink quite a bit of coffee and diet soda. Not a fan of water. Pretty much lost interest in eating all together at this point. Only got in 3-4 shakes a day a couple of times this week. MD6 is about all that’s keeping me standing. Its day 16 (or so) and weight has dropped from 190 to 178#. Haven’t stopped feeling like shit just stopped caring.

What’s up guys. I really need some advice…I’m on day 8 of ff. I had
a bio-imp test a week before I started the ff and also today. Here are my results… 15days ago: 80.2kg; h2o wt=49.4kg; h2o %=61.6; fat wt=12.7kg; fat %=15.8…today: 77.1kg; h2o wt=47.8kg; h2o %=61.9; fat wt=11.9kg; fat %=15.4…As you can see,it looks like I’m losing a shiteload of muscle. Would todays test be very accurate? I know that if you are dehydrated then the reading will be out. Same if you have caffeine near the test(which I had
last night). The reading will say more fat/less muscle. I also worked out last night. Also I’m using androsol on this diet. Strength still seems sweet although energy is low. Cardio is minimal ie. only wt training 4x/wk for 1 hr and wing chun 2x/wk for 2 hrs each. I know the test from 15 days ago will be reasonably accurate as I had consistant readings from the previous weeks. SO, do I flag it and just cut my losses, or consider
todays test void and plug on?? As you can imagine, the thought of lost
hard-earned muscle has put me on a bit of a downer so it’s hard for me
to stay so enthusiastic, however, hang in there guys! Oh yeah, as for
mirror results, definately leaner, but MAYBE smaller, not sure…thanks for your comments.

OK I retract my original post.today sucks!!..gotta vent here cause you guys are all I have got right now. My vixen is not with me tonight, the guys all went out for an evening of boozing and checking out the ladies…and I declined…didn’t need the temptation. So here I sit…home alone. Had a great squat workout today…still feel it…but got NOTHING TO DO!! I HATE THIS DIET!!! AAAAAAAAAAA!!! lol! any suggestions? There is nothing worth watching on the tube, did the workout for the day…even just did about 500 crunches…out of boredom. Can’t chase the vixen around the house…am NOT going out to the bar with the crew…hmmmm…did I mention sometimes I hate this diet?? oh well…at least there is a new issue of T-mag to read!! Good luck all!

Hey, jky, it depends on why you’re doing the FF diet. If you need to lose weight quick, and aren’t so concerned about losing a few pounds of muscle, then PLUG ON! If you’re doing it because you’re curious about the diet and want to see how ripped you’ll get, then choose a different diet…you’ll lose fat slower, but the muscle will not disintegrate. I’m on my fourth day, and starting to feel kind of good, not craving stuff as much as the second day. Workouts are tough though!!! Hang in there guys!

Thanks for the advice, fellas. Actually, I cheated today and had some swordfish and broccoli and salad with oil and vinegar. I felt rreal guilty, checked my overall calorie/nutrient—missed my protein by about 10 grams, but was still under on my total calories! I was elated. Now that my brain is functioning semi-properly again (I forgot to get diet drinks at the grocery) I think I’ll do well. WATTS- you may be right on the water, I figured that up too, and I’m probably about a quart a day short on total liquids (I drink Crystal Light and shitloads of Diet Mt. Dew, along with water). Thanks again.

Am I correct in my understanding that one should NOT use creatine during the fat fast because the non-carb/ketogenic nature is strongly anti-diuretic?

maclar…thanks for your comments. After having just been to the gym and working bi’s/tri’s, I came home and measured them. Still the same as before ff, so it’s still all go for now. I suppose that my mentality is strongly affected while on this type of diet, especially seeing as I have always been dieting for mass in the past, so suddenly I feel that I’m wasting away…so I’m down 3.1kg (6.8lb), waist is 30mm smaller, arms are same size, this is day 9. Question: how much water weight might you expect to regain after getting back onto a sane diet ie.carbs…comments from anybody else re my prev post?

I found some foods we can eat. Try making a salad with leafy lettuce (iceberg has many more calories and carbs), green onions, and cilantro. I made dressing out of flaxseed oil (which was figured in the diet), Frank’s hot sauce (0 calories or carbs), and lemon pepper Mrs. Dash (same ratio). I subbed in a serving of cheese and some unflavored whey isolate for my protein (adjust for your caloric needs) tossed it and DAMN I’m happy. The greens added about 25 cals (for a HUGE bowl) and the benefit of some fiber and roughage, and it doesn’t taste like vanilla or chocolate. I’m still looking forward to doing the Anabolic diet in a few weeks, but discoveries like these make it easier to wait.

sup ya’ll…for all those who dont know…im from the hometown of this magazines co-editor(chris shugart)…and ive been on this diet for almost two weeks…and i do believe its not that hard…the key is NOT TO BE A BIG PUSSY!!!..i found out yeah the first weeks is real tough…there is no more late night muchies after smokin a joint at the nearest jack and jilll doughnuts…no more dr.pepper binges and certainly no more of drinkin urself retarded…which in my case can be a chalenge bein in college…all u have to do is make it through the first week to allow your body time to acclimate to its new eating habits…now u all my think i am cheating after i say this…but hey i do allow myself one descent meal a week…i just do not over do it on the carbs…and come on the flax isnt that bad…true its not a ho ho or anything but its sure not shit!!!..plus the way i look at it…i workout religiously 4 to 5 times a week…the fine ass desk girls at golds can vouch for me…so in a way u can earn yourself some space by bustin ass in the gym and for all those running freaks…KISS MY ASS!!.. this man gets his cardio by boxing teh way a real man should…just clowning, guys keep running its good for u

Today is day 3 for me. I cheated last night (I had a Village Inn hash brown) but today I weighed in and I still went down in weight and bodyfat %. Also my girl friend was talking to me because she got bitchy and said that when I’m on a diet talking to me is like talking to a grapefruit.

Also does anyone know if there is a “metabolic shift” when starting a FF for a few days.

Has anyone thought of going on an Anabolic Diet after a FF, I think I am going to.

I have only noticed two posts about women trying this diet. I have tried keto diets a few times, and I find in the middle of day two I become a raving bitch. I also have alot of trouble concentrating and I shake a LOT. Have you guys noticed mood swings and concentration problems? what do you do to stop yourself from killing people? I’d like to try FF, but I’m honestly afraid I’d lose my job after flipping out on someone at work. Are there women out there who have tired this and had it work for them? (women have much much slower metabolisms than men, so I’m not sure if we woul dhave different reactions…)

I have done the fat fast 2 times before. It’s hard and trying. I have some advice that might help you guys out.

Food - Why must we be drinking whey… that’s probably the worst protein for this diet. It has a very high Glycemic Index for protein. WHAT IS WRONG WITH WHOLE FOOD? Ideally most of your protein should come from casein…try straining cottage cheese through a colander; zero carbs, fat and a dense and filling source of protein.

Calories - Don’t go and make the mistake of eating too little, that’s the worst thing you can do. You need to feed your muscle or it will shrink along with you fat.

Fat - Getting the right kind is important… but you aren’t going to die if you eat a beef patty or two.

Carbohydrate - typically an important energy source, especially for you brain… the major downfall of ketosis is you body is probably going to canabalize your muscle or whole protein for glucose. Don’t pretend your body will instintly burst in flames when you eat a banana after an especially intense workout.

Protein - Make sure you’re getting some every 3 hours as this diet is extremely catabolic. Opt for slowly digested kinds like meat and casein for the majority of your intake.

Creatine - Always good stuff. Keeps the ATP flowing like molasses in the winter… wait, really bad analogy, please disregard. It works better after an insulin spike though.

Thermogenics - great for this diet. The caffeine may cause an insulin surge, but will spare muscle as it activates fatty tissues. Ephedrine is beautiful said and done. Citrimax and most other stuff is just bells and whistles… tyrosine has some promise though.

Other Supplements - a multivit/min always a good idea. Glutamine and BCAA’s great eapecially post workout. Fish oil caps a great source of fat when taken with some not so good sources (mmm… beef).

OK Day 7 is a bad bad day. The diet is going fine, however I just cracked open a new bottle of andro and a new nandro. Was preparing to mix them (I like the 50/50 blend) and knocked the nandro bottle off the coffee table and onto the carpet. Lost about 80% of the new bottle…this sucks. What is even more upsetting is I actually sat running my hand over the wet spot on the carpet and spreading it over my body…sad sad sad…! Will be doing my measurements tonight, so I will update all of you tomorrow! Please all have a moment of silence tonight for the poor bottle of nandro…guess I am stuck with just andro for a while. Peace all!

ok, i’m starting this diet tomorrow morning… ugh… going to try to stay on it for two weeks. my 40th birthday is coming up and i want to get rid of these love handles before then!
how is everyone progressing on this? any regrets on doing this diet? been reading all the posts and i’m kinda leery, but i think i can make 2 weeks!

Buster, doing pretty good here…although I don’t have alot of stamina in the gym. This is day 6 for me. It actually gets to the point where you don’t even give a rat’s ass if you eat or not. I only had two shakes today (400 calories) and then I ate some chicken and beef for dinner. I’m not taking Androsol, but I haven’t lost much muscle yet. I don’t really care, just want to be leaner at this point. My suggestions are to just make it through those first 3 days, after that it becomes easier, and the cravings diminish. Use some stimulants (coffee, caffeine tabs, MD6, Powerdrive, stuff like that). Drink alot of WATER, don’t get too carried away with diet colas. I found that Crystal Light is a better choice. Try mixing in some unsweetened Koolaid powders in your shakes with a packet of Equal, makes it sweeter. Let us know how it’s going! good luck bro…

maclar: thanks for the tips man! i will use them… i live here in Las Vegas… so i took today and pigged out at a buffet for my last day of food for awhile… haha… too many buffets in this town to tempt me! especially working in a casino doesn’t help… haha…
i will let you know how it goes… thanks again man!

Oh ya, another suggestion, go get some sugar free Vitamin C chewables. Less than 1g of carbs each…no calories. I get mine at Costco for cheap, a big bottle. Munch on a few if you’re having severe cravings for sweets!
