hi guys, im a female boxer, ive got my first fight 15th september.
the girl ill fight is 52kg and im 58kg at 5"3.
i have never had to “make” weight before and im not sure the best way to do it…
i understand the eating well concept, but i dont think that is quite going to get me to my goal of 6kgs of weightloss considering im already training 5 days a week…
problem is i already eat pretty small. considerably less than i should be considering the amount of training i do.
i figure i have plenty of time so its a reachable goal.
i have just started taking a musashi fat loss powder which isnt having a massive impact.
I cant say i’ve had much to do with boxing but I have a bit of experience with dropping weight division for weightlifting. The good news is that you have a fair bit of time to try things out. im going to assume that you are already fairly lean, otherwise simply training for fat loss will do the trick.
What I would suggest is you use the time you have to experiment a touch with how much weight you can drop in a week so you can be sure that you do it right for the fight.
try a lower carb diet, may work for you or it may mean you are to flat, it can be individual.
Play around with dehydration a bit too
try drinking allot (4-5 liters )of water for a week or so and the day before weigh in consume none. (as long as you can rehydrate before the fight.)
Personally i’ve done this and lost approx 5 kilos for weigh in with minimal changes to diet or training. but since your a tad smaller and female it may not be quite so profound

You can also do sodium manipulation tio aid this further really LOAD up ion the sodium for a week or two prior get the body used to the sudium an the water it requires when you then cut out all sodium the nody is used to having high levels wont bet getting it and ill even further piss away the excess. Make sure to refill electrolytes post weight in as well as hydration
“The Grapplers Guide to Sports Nutrition” by Micheal Fry and Doc John Berardi. $30. $50 if you by it paired with “Gourmet Nutrition”.
Fry is a long time wrestler, but cutting weight is cutting weight. And of course Doc Berardi is one of T-Nation’s nutrition masterminds.
Its a great source of information to keep around. Lots of strategies to make wieght without the severe starvation and dehydration. And strategies on how to re-feed between weigh-in and competition.

Do you have a coach? You should get his/her advice on cutting weight as well, as they should have some good experience with it.
Generally, when someone uses a sauna to cut water they will either put on a sauna suit (a waterproof suit) or lots of layers of clothing then get into a hot sauna. Make sure to get a sweat going first.
Also, always, ALWAYS have a person there who is not cutting to make sure that you are ok and keep you safe. He/she can also motivate you and keep you going as cutting in a sauna is hellish. Even so, I don’t recommend cutting this way.
i cut for my last fight & had no chin. It was my first am boxing fight & the ref. stopped in the first rnd. I sat on my arse & then rocked. I was pissed off, no fighter ever wants their fight stopped but it was a fair call - how’d things work out for you?

Cutting weight for boxing is diff. to cutting weight for wrestling, but the biggest factor in weight cutting is if its a 24hr or an immeadiate weigh-in (Weigh in & fight a couple of hours later)

i’m amatuer so ill weigh in on the morning ill fight typically that is[/quote]
Wow. That’s really interesting. I had no idea that Am boxing fights weighed in same day. In Am MMA you weigh in the day before generally.
My reservation on the sauna cutting was more of a legal/liability disclaimer than anything. I don’t want to be reccomending potentially dangerous things without caveat.
thats not too dissimilar to weightlifting. although obviously a different strain on the energy systems. dehydration and low carbs is no big deal with weightlifting, but it will take some practice to get it right for boxing.
not use if its legal in boxing, I know its not in weightlifting anymore. however if you can you may be able to rehydrate with a drip too. bit extreme however it would allow some more dehydration and a full recovery in the hours you have before the fight

aha its already been broken but from horse riding…
ill post some pics of me before ive started to cut weight, and keep posting as i get closer to my fight…ill put more in my profile…
the pics probably make it obvious ive never dieted before lol

I checked your pics… You’d still be adorable even with a broken nose :^)
I don’t understand the “obvious I’ve never dieted” comment. Add some pics of your whole body standing relaxed and we’ll be better able to guide you on your fat loss goals.
Remember, you’re going to fight, you want to lose fat and keep the muscle and strength. My suggestion at this point would be to do complexes in the gym. Do the lifts fast (but with good form), and minimize rest periods. This will help maximize your striking force and stamina.
A low-carb, high protein/fat diet works well for many but it depends on your particular genetics. You have plenty of time to experiment… Have fun!
Im an am boxer too, some of the shit i could get away makes me laugh. My wraps arent even checked before i fight. Im fighting Sunday, weigh in 10am & fight just after midday. In terms of weight, ams are pretty much “run what you brung”, you only have to “make weight” if you’re going for a title. Ill be weighing in about 72kgs for the middleweight division on Sunday, which is <69kgs, lol!
You have until September to lose about 12 Lbs(sorry, I’m American and had to convert kilos to pounds). You have all the time in the world to make this weight. Try a couple of different dieting techniques from this site and see which one works.
When you start training hard for the fight, the weight will really start to drop off. If you are anything like me you will come in underweight. If you are a kilo over the day before or a couple of days before, then consider using the sauna. Good luck in the fight.
