Thibs also recommends magnesium at night for sleep
ZMA for morning

i agree…Z-12 is a sh*tload better IMO for sleeping…but at $50/bottle…i’m diggin’ the ZMA effects on my sleep and recovery for for A LOT less…i’ll take that.
unless Biotest can make it for less expensive? hmmmmm???
I take 1 cap of Nytol when I cant get to sleep its basicly 25mg of Diphenhydramine Hydrocloride! It works like a charm! and its dirt cheap 2 caps for $5 canadian I dont use it everynight tho only when im restless!
I take ZMA to help support optimal hormone levels. The deeper sleep is a nice benefit.
I usually dont’ have trouble staying asleep.
I am gonna pick up the Z-12 for the sleeping aspect…I use the ZMA 'cuz I noticed the zinc supplementation helps with keeping me from getting colds and such (having a 4 year old who has a lot of friends means there’s ALWAYS a bug going around).
The sleep benefit for me on that (ZMA) is what I’d call ‘action dreams’ - really vivid, summer-blockbuster types. And that’s nice.

I notice on Pubmed that there was just a study that said ZMA wasn’t effective for athletes. No difference.
But there are also TONS of studies that support supplementation with Zinc when it comes to optimal t-levels, which I think far outweigh the conclusion of that one study.
Also, magnesium is touted just about everywhere these days as a sleep aid. Actually, I read it’s supposed to help with ‘restless leg syndrome.’
I haven’t taken it in years, but I just ordered some more. I’ve always been impressed with the deep sleep and vivid dreams I have when I take it, but I’ve been dragging my feet about ordering more. Seems like it’s worth it, given it’s an inexpensive supplement!

I am so glad you mentioned the “restless leg syndrome” since I started taking ZMA at night I have had maybe 5 jumpy leg nights in 8 months.
Z12 is expensive but when I take it I am out like a light and I don’t wake up groggy
The RLS is something that’s been annoying my wife. Seems to be worse when I’m working out, for whatever reason…
So I tried taking asprin before bed. Didn’t help. Magnesium is another one she mentioned I should try. Coupled with my recent reads about zinc, it triggered a purchase decision. I’m looking forward to seeing if it helps. So is she!!
Another suggestion for RLS that she saw online somewhere was to put a bar of soap in the bed. That seems absurd, but she may be desperate enough to try it?
I had a killer bout of RLS last night, usually it doesnt bother me very much, maybe once every couple of months or so (as a kid it was a much bigger problem).
Interestingly enough, I rarely take ZMA and last night was one of the nights I actually did. So as far as working for RLS goes, it certainly didn’t help me last night.
I slipped in and out of bad sleep until 5am when I finally just jumped in the shower, that worked well and I got a good couple of hours after that.
Z12 is great. I try and only take it once in a while before a big workout day, so my body doesn’t adapt to it.
As far as other “cures” for RLS…if I still had it as bad as I did as a kid i’d probably look into it more but since it’s all but gone away I haven’t had much motivation to look into it. Never heard of the soap thing though, I don’t get how that would work.

Well, that’s not the whole cure. You’re actually supposed to put the soap in and wet the sheets…that way you can wash them while sleeping.

Ha! No wonder my wife wants to try that one out! She’d vacuum all night long if the neighbors would let her!

Benadryl is the same compound and strength and it might help save you some money[/quote]
I’ve taken benadryl when I NEED to sleep - two tabs knock my ass OUT!
But I think a sleep AID is different than sleep ENHANCEMENT.
