Can't Stay Asleep

i jsut started my bulk till im huge. well problem is i try and go to bed early and i normally fall asleep around 10. but every 2 hours i wake up. I wanna sleep because when i wake up at 6am i am exhausted. Are there any methods that will help keep me asleep. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you recently started using ZMA. When I first started taking ZMA I would wake up every couple of hours. It wore off and eventually now I sleep better right through the night with ZMA.

Other than that my other thought is that if you have started eating more before you go to bed with your bulking diet your body is probably just adjusting to having to process food while you sleep.

It could be something entirely unrelated, but those are the two things that I have personally experienced.

Nothing too scientific here, but my only suggestion would be to include some type of ‘white noise’ to help you both fall, and stay, asleep.

I have a fan that I keep by my bedside that I have blowing all night. The quiet “humming” sound it produces just knocks me out, and drowns out any other random noises that might wake me up.

i did jsut start taking zma about a week ago. maybe that is why thanks

Try GABA. It boosts GH naturally and more important for you, its a good sleep aid. When i was taking it it helped me fall alseep within about 30mins of taking it.

i have a fan and an air conditioner. i thought it had somethnig to to with the ac beign on to high. but i had it on room temp the last few nights and i still woke up. gaba is to help you fall asleep. i have no problem falling asleep jsut stayign asleep.

ZMA is great - I use it- but I think that sometimes it works just the opposite of how it is supposed to. Therefore when my sleep starts getting screwy (normally after a week or two), I cut off for like 2 days an then gradually build back up. Does anyone know if this has to do with an excess of Zinc or Magnesium?

i can’t believe they just sell GABA OTC.

I used to do that too and it works great. But then I realized that it is probably not environmentally friendly because I’m using electricity all night. That’s why I hired someone to hum whenever I start to stir in my sleep. It costs a shitload, but I like the feeling that I’m helping to save the environment.

I use an air cleaner at night which makes that humming noise. I can barely fall asleep with that noise now, and hey at least I’m cleaning the air so it not a total waste to the environment

I think your body is adjusting to the increased calories but you could try some ZMA or a little white noise like others have suggested. I take ZMA and also have a small fan that keeps the air moving. Personally I can’t sleep unless the room is cool.

nah its been happeneing before bulking. i have a fan.

i have the same problem, i wake up every two hours. i found out it helps (as was posted above) that something like a fan or air conditioner helps me stay asleep. also, i used to take a whey shake before bed but i had to wake up to piss halfway thru the night. IF you are taking a shake before bed, try switchin to the sustained release kind, i dont wake up as much anymore, maybe it will help you out too, goodluck.

I believe you’ve totally missed the boat on getting a hummer to help you sleep.

yeah well my lack of sleep completely ruined my workout today… at least its the weekend and i can sleep all day if i care to. tommorow will be better hopefully.

I have a similar problem. My Dr. perscribed me some Trazadone which helps. I still wake up but not as often and am able to fall back asleep when I do. Also I have been using ZMA but it hasn’t improved anything above what the Trazadone does.

If you are getting to be a big dude you may just have sleep apnia.

I do the same thing quite often waking up every 2 hours or even every hour some nights. But for me its not really problem as these nights I seem to be more rested when I wake then nights where I sleep the whole night through. Of course these nights where its like I wake up every hour or 2, is when I have almost hullicantions which is always a great thing.

Any of you guys tried Melatonin, puts me to a deep sleep for 8 hours pretty well (I only need to take the 1mg too).

I started having a similar problem this year.

It could be a lot of things. I guess a sudden onset of sleep apnea is a possibility if you are really putting on weight.

How do you know you are waking up repeatedly? I know by the fact that I glance at the alarm clock and then fall right back asleep. I also dream excessively and in great detail. This happens both on and off ZMA.

This is a type of insomnia(sleep maintenance insomnia) and it is tough to deal with. Supplements dont help in my experience(mostly because Gaba, Melatonin etc is to help you fall asleep).

There is a book, The Insomnia Answer, which proposes a regimine of sleep restriction to counteract sleep maintenance insomnia. It may be worth looking into.

Take heart. I know exactly how you feel and in the scheme of things, its not all that bad. Trust me, your body is getting the sleep it needs. If you find a solution, let me know.
