Ever Pass Out During A Lift?

the program im doing right now calls for leg presses and sometimes i go down and start really strugggling to get it up lately ive just felt some lightheadedness but have been able to push through it although once i honestly though i was going to pass out if i tried any harder so i just quit that rep so have any of you ever just been like “fuck it” and pushed (or pulled) til you actually passed out?

You gotta breath.

Seriously. The only times I’ve felt lightheaded while lifting have been when I was holding my breath during a rep.

I’ve come damn close deadlifting at a meet. My vision narrowed down to a small “window”.

Pulled a PR too.

its hard to focus on breathing when youre giving everything you have to lift a heavy weight, hoping you can get it up so you dont get crushed when you pass out.

I’m not doubting your effort, but when did a leg press crush anybody?

i get that only with deadlifts anymore. if i dont breathe in normally and grunt it out i reach a sticking point so i have to drop it.

When deadlifting for personal record singles in the past I have completed the lift, set the weight down, and then completely blacked out and had a controlled fall to the floor where it would take me about 10 seconds to regain sight again. I believe when your lifting experience increases, your blood flow also improves. Now there is not a thing in the gym that will make me come even close to passing out, because even though my muscles become engorged with blood during the lift, the blood flow to my head is still sufficient to maintain consciousness. Just comes with experience.

In the meanwhile, watch yourself. Make sure that you only push it to the point of passing out on safe lifts. I think deadlifts is safe for that, because if you drop the weight or fall down nothing really bad can happen. If you’re overhead squatting, though, it could be a different story. Use your discretion.

No but threw up cause of one a few times. Personally interval sprinting got me closest to passing out in my training

I actually passed out one time. It was within a week of BBing contest and I had been dieting down for near 4 months at that point. I was running low carb, dehydrated, and tired.

And then to make that even better, I was doing front squats with a damned heavy amount of weight on there for a set of 15-- I only made it 12. In case some you weren’t aware, front squats naturally seem to choke out some of us bigger guys.

Worl

Never actually passed out but a couple of times after a heavy deadlifting session I got tunnel vision and had to sit down for a bit.

Never passed out, seen spots afterwards for a second though. You have to breath, that’s all there is to it.

I make sure that I am breathing, so I don’t know where the spots came from in my case, but I would guess your problem is a lack of breathing.

You mentioned something about it being difficult to focus on breathing, but you shouldn’t have to focus on it, though I do actually use it as a focus point sometimes. Exhaling during the correct portion of a lift has become second nature for me.

I fell asleep once. Had been feeling poorly and halfway through the workout, while under some DBs for flies, just fell asleep. My workout partner said I was still with arms up in the air for more than a minute. After that I just hung around to spot him and then went a took a(nother) nap.

I have done hard squats and went to lie down on a bench to settle down and had to catch myself from falling asleep.

1 time I think I did blackout. Finished some squats, racked it, the next thing I knew I was sitting on a bench on the other side of the gym.

I generally come close to PTFO Passing the FuGG Out when I do hyperextensions, I generally use a 45lb plate and go from 90 degrees to 220 degrees and hold, which some people think is stupid but it has done wonders for my erectors, but it does keep your diaphragm from expanding correctly so it all boils down to air… Breathe, control weight breathe…

maybe not crush but when i do leg press my knees are always pressing right into my stomach and ribs (to where they actually get sore after) so im guessing if i lost all control and passed out when that carriage comes down it wont be leaving me in a good position

i get lightheaded sometimes…seeing colors and what not…doesnt happen often though…

last time it happened to me was unracking the bar for front squats…i think i must have hit a nerve or something…

I was going for a max on the deadlift, and after the lift I heard a high pitch noise and my vision became very narrow, but I was able to stuble over to a bench to sit down. I didn’t black out though.

I’ve stopped a set not because I couldn’t continue but because I saw myself doing Deadlifts and thought my eyes were going to pop out of my head.

I worked out with the flu once…not the best idea…I DID pass out. haha fuckin sucked. Pretty embarrassing too. It was on a warm up set too…so i had the baby weight on and it just added to the amusement.
