I saw the movie last night and enjoyed it. The guys looked good, but many of the 6 packs just looked a little digitally enhanced or something. Something wasn’t quite right. And I definitely didn’t think they looked big enough to warrant all the steroid talk in this thread.

There shouldn’t have been ANY talk in this thread. If anyone has been on this board for years and hasn’t passed that level of development up yet (regardless of whether you are as lean or not), you need to take a LONG look at what you are doing and fix it.

I haven’t seen the movie and would not be suprised if they used makeup, digital effects etc to look more jacked. Nor would I be surprised if they used steroids.
I am suprised so many experienced trainers appear to be ruling out the possibility of steroids.
In this day and age highschool kids are using for worse reasons.

My gosh, you’re right! We should be bringing it up in ALL topics at ALL times! I mean, you never know, right?!
So, let’s start…with THIS:

Yes, that’s right, a 400lbs woman didn’t know she was pregnant until the day right before she had the baby! I don’t know about you, but what else can cause that…but STEROIDS!? It’s a freaking epidemic, I tell you.
Let’s look at the steroid issue with a little more realism and a little more compassion, shall we?
I don’t think anyone questions whether it’s possible to attain the levels of development of the “300” actors without drugs; just whether it’s possible to go from a virtually untrained state to that kind of buff in the 2-4 months that those guys had.
Butler admits that he hadn’t been in training prior to his 300 training.
Or indeed why those actors, with so much riding on their conditioning, would CHOOSE to go clean when supervised, judicious steroid use would make their jobs so much easier? I’ve done a spot of acting in LA myself, and believe me, unless your name’s Tom Cruise, you’re pretty darn replaceable.
I’ve never used steroids myself, but in a zillion-dollar industry like the movies, or pro athletics, where a sluggish day at practice or a bad day in front of the camera can mean you lose your big break for good and go back to waiting tables, well, I think I’d have a hard time resisting.
And actors don’t get tested on the job or punished for steroid use (unless of course they’re smuggling them).
A case in point here that illustrates what I’m saying here: Stallone was just nabbed for smuggling 48 vials of GH into Australia while promoting ROCKY BALBOA. And he was long since done filming the movie!
The 300 guys may have used; they may not have used. I liked the movie and know that it takes a hell of a lot of work to look like that, even with “help.” Let’s not be Pollyannas about this.
lmao… if those guys are on steroids then half my gym is also on steroids.
Fighters have a habit of looking awfully ripped to shreds and bigger than they actually are too.
Better tell them the world knows about their steroid use.
Seriously, four months is heaps of time.
16 weeks! sheesh, you could afford to get fat for four weeks and then get shredded for 12!
Hard work guys… plain hard work and serious nutritional planning.

She’s jacked but it looks like she has a little water retention. Must be creatine.

I think that is a more interesting topic. Do you think he grew it himself?

Steroids make you have sex with and impregnate 400 pound women???

Not that it’s not attainable naturally, but given the short amount of time and the resources he had to the best beard growth products around, I think he might have ‘supplemented’.
But seriously, I don’t know why this debate is going on. Those physiques are entirely achieveable naturally. I don’t think anyone with rudimentary knowledge or who’s made a modicum of progress themselves would or is disputing that. But we all know that steroids aren’t only used to gain size and that someone not eating right is not going to get big just by using them either.
It’s entirely reasonable actors would use something to make it a little easier on themselves and gain a little muscle while getting lean. Maybe a little clen. Maybe a little anavar. Whatever.
I have no doubt their handlers have access. And that way they could be a little less diligent with their eating, while certainly still needing to watch themselves. And still hype their movie by publicizing the rigorous training and brutal diet.
America is obsessed by celebrity transformations, whether they have to gain weight for a role or get in good shape. Somehow it’s always ‘news’. We’re never gonna know the real story. Are steroids necessary to get those physiques in those timeframes? Certainly not.
Might they have been used? Entirely possible. Will we ever know? No. Should we care? I don’t see why we should.

I donated mine for the movie.

I thought the same thing about the digital enhancement. In some of the scenes, all you could see were rows and rows of abdominal muscles (not that I’m complaining, I only went to see the movie for the physiques anyway).
Anyway, why would the actors need steroids when they can just get their muscles enhanced digitally?

Wow. What complex analysis. I am sure you are known for your intellect.
No one said they didn’t use steroids. What was said (several times) was this: If you don’t look that way after training regularly and heavily, then you are a donk.
According to an email conversation between me and whoever answers emails at Gymjones they use a Paleo/The Zone type of diet.
That is coming directly from them.

This is a baffling reply to my post.
Several posters did in fact say they found the actors’ physiques unimpressive and therefore doubted that they had used steroids, and it was those guys I was responding to when I made the point that I believed that actors had many reasons to use and very few good reasons not to.
My second point was that the actors’ use or non-use of drugs didn’t affect my feelings about the movie or their physical accomplishments, which, in contrast to several guys above, I still find impressive.
I agree with the title of this thread…let’s let this one fade away, shall we?

Now why did you have to do that? How can we speculate, make unfounded accusations and wiseass comments to serious questions now?

I’ve been doing workouts like the ones Mark Twight has been preaching for quite some time now and let me tell you It Fucking works. I’ve been an exercise physiologist and personal trainer for the past 10 years. This functional approach to strength training is not a new fad. Med balls, kettlebells and plyometrics have been around for a long, long time. Training to be big and bulky can make you less of an athlete most of the time. Having a big bench or squat doesn’t mean shit if you can’t apply it to everyday life. Some people just don’t understand that. The actors and stunt men in 300 trained their asses off and ate clean. Why is it that when someone achieves a look that makes others jealous/ envious they immediately cry STEROIDS. I’m 5’9" 200lbs at 8% body fat and have never taken anything other than protein, liver tablets, creatine, multi-vitamins and eat as clean as I’m able to. Oh and train hard. When people in my gym see me do my workouts they whisper to each other and sometimes laugh but always ask how I got in such good shape. Duh, weren’t you paying attention the whole time you were staring and joking around. Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. Chubs108 go to gymjones.com website and READ it.
