I’m not saying that they didn’t or wouldn’t, I’m saying that it would be silly to use steroids to gain this physique.

It would, but actors can be silly people.
Semi-fit?

I don’t know about that. What did he get paid for the movie?
I have no idea whether any of these guys used or not but I suspect some did. Not because their physiques are so amazing they require it but because it is a shortcut that helps them achieve an important goal.
There are millions of dollars riding on this movie and most guys would use every tool in the toolbox to make sure they were fit and ready for filming.
I don’t suppose anyone would like to give a bit of a workout glossary for some of the workouts they use in their schedule? Half of these workouts I’ve never even heard before.

Why would they have been on steroids? They’re not that big! It’s funny that when you look slightly bigger than the average underwear model or slightly more cut than the average couch potato people assume that it’s pharmaceutically enhanced…Controlling calories and busting your ass in the gym with high-intensity routines involving functional movements (www.crossfit.com is as good a place to start as any) can reap a variety of the same benefits. What they have is a lean, wiry physique that comes from this blend of function and intensity.
Give a reason why they would not use steroids. Because they’re illegal? Because they want to stay natural? Please.
These guys had to not only gain muscle, but also be ripped to shreds. Yes, this can be accomplished naturally, but again, if you were an actor and the movie’s credibility and your role in it depended on you looking good, why would you pass up steroids?
I’m not saying they didn’t work hard or that their results are unattainable, but to think that all these actors hold “staying natural” in such high esteem is a joke.
they aren’t that big! wow if yo think anyone who weighs more than you do takes steroids then you are idiotic.

It’s not like they went out and hired a bunch of 150lb actors and they all added 50lbs of LBM in 12 weeks.
A well known Hollywood trainer (worked with Ryan Reynolds and Ed Norton among others) is on the record as saying the key is to add a couple lbs of muscle and then lean the actor way down (<8%) to make the appearance of more muscularity - especially if time is short.
Looks like what they did in 300 as well.

Exactly, and Mark Twight did essentially the same thing. Give them a good hard lifting program and muscle them up a bit, but then the true effect comes from the intense conditioning drills and strict diet.
A guy who is lean looks way bigger than he truly is when on camera with his shirt off. I’ve had a chance to meet a few famous boxers in real life, and they always look strikingly smaller in normal street clothes than they do on TV. It’s simply because they are lean and the perspective of film tricks your eye.

Definitely true. Holyfield used to train at the same 24 Hour Fitness in Houston I did occasionally and it was very strange standing next to the guy and realizing he was smaller. That doesn’t take away from his talent but he doesn’t look very big at all in person.

Isn’t Holyfield being implicated in this latest steroid witchhunt?

How about having a poll about whether they used or not on the front page? Could be interesting to quantify the T-community’s position on the matter.
On a related note, does anyone know if Pitt got jacked for fightclub?
Have you seen the movie? He basically starved himself and got skinny as hell. These guys did the same thing except they lifted and had a base of muscle mass before they cut down.

That’s teice in this thread you’ve made that silly joke.
It’s normal that if people are interested in how they trained they may also wonder hwt and how much they ate. Just for shiats and giggles.

I don’t think it’s a question of what they ate as opposed to how much they ate.
It also went on to say that they battled with overuse injuries, so in some cases the food intake was probably too low for the volume and intensity of the training.
