DukeTheSlaya's Journey to Overhead Pressing Like a God

This has been working so far. Will maybe change up soon if i stall.

Where did you get that rep range or progression model from ? Or are they just random reps that seem to be working for you ?

Random reps that seem to be working lol. I probably most likely saw it in a tnation article though

Anyone know a good lifting belt to buy and straps?

I have no idea what ships to Australia, but I’d get figure 8 straps, since a lot of strongman events are looking to favor those these days.

Duke If your wanted to buy shit you should’ve bought it over Black Friday and cyber Monday. Why no tights on the shopping list tho? :frowning:

+1 on the figure 8s. If you look in the vids on my log I use the figure 8s for conventional. Takes about 5 seconds to strap in and then you technically don’t even have to hold on with your grip anymore.

One thing to keep in mind is the kind of material the figure 8s are made from. Mine are from Iron Tanks (Australian compny) and made from like stiffer stuff so they can dig into your wrists. I used the normal straps for sumo because of this.

My friend has giants pro figure of 8 strap that is softer so doesn’t have the same problems and it can’t hurt that Eddie Hall pulled his 500 with them. For a bit extra may be worth. Underground Elite has a similar feeling figure 8 strap for $25ish

As well as straps, wraps and sleeves Iron Tanks sells all manner of belts with fast AU delivery tho I can’t say they are that much cheaper than more popular powerlifting belts. If you are serious about lifting (strongman or otherwise) probably need to drop at least $100

Try these sites for all the things:

Loaded Lifting
Titan Australia
Harris Stability Systems
The WodLife
Iron Tanks
City Strength / Iron Underground (for SBD fear)
Underground Elite

If you gon go with figure 8s then Underground Elite is probs what you want.

Regular straps are good too tho. With practice you can get quite fast with them. Also you can bail on the lift at any time like releasing pressure on the straps so that it unwinds.

With figure 8s you are locked in so it’s hard to disengage from a lift

Just be careful duke, You might end up with a gym bag full of useless shit like me

Saw a video of a guy getting caught in a back flip due to loosing balance with figure 8’s.
Looked kinda funny!

I actually use a looping technique with regular straps that locks me in to the point that I can’t bail, but (at least in the US) a lot of competitions are becoming ā€œstrap in on your own timeā€, which means the event starts BEFORE you have your strap sets. I ended up losing a rep and missing out on first in a deadlift event because of that dumb rule, because I had regular straps that took a little longer to set up.

Am interested. Can you link us a vid for how to?

For me with sumo dl I use the cue to externally rotate the shoulder or turn the elbows in by torquing out.

I can do this with the loop and tail straps in training but with the figure 8s it throws me off loads.

With the 8s I lock in by sliding the strap farther out then where I intend to grip and then internally rotating to lock the bar in tight to my hands like in this vid.

Not a problem for conventional deadliftting but can’t sumo with the figure 8s so I had both styles in my bag to use.

Here is a demo I made for it a long while back. Lighting kinda sucks

You basically criss cross the strap, rather than just wrap it around the bar a bunch of times.

For $120 you could buy one of those crazy good gym bags that comes with meal storage, air conditioning and a hidden compartment for your steroids.

For clothes you better ask @guineapig lel. Dude’s so sexy that bishes mirin in the gym

I’m a fan of garbage bags myself. You can get a whole lot of them for cheap.

Doesn’t cost that much so if you feel that it’d be helpful hen get both styles

Lot more variety on the market with the loop and tail lookin straps. Almost every brand carries them and with that style the material doesn’t matter as much and quality doesn’t vary much either tbh. Am still using a $10 pair I got off some random gym apparel store a year ago.

Pick one that’s cheap, you like the brand, how it looks (colour coordination is life) or just buy one off whichever site ou buy the figure 8s off to save on delivery.

EDIT Just had a browse myself because I’d love to upgrade both of my straps (must control self) and Underground Elite has 20% or more off straps. So total will probably run you 40ish dollars + delivery unless you buy a belt too. WodLife also has a good range if you want to buy all your things from the one site.
