Mark Wahlberg says it best in Pain and Gain… “I have no sympathy for people who squander their gifts.” As frustrating as it must be seeing him waste his life eating like a pig. It’s probably best you do the best of your ability to ignore it because chances are it’s going to continue affecting your life negatively if you keep worrying about it.
*jumps in the fray, catches an elbow to the nose. Sulks.
*comes back again. Quotes guy on ignore.
Yeah, sure you do. ![]()
If a ban is what your going for, i have no problem with that if you guys accept or promote this type of bullshit.
Why don’t you make me a list of posters who left as a direct result of interaction with me while we wait on the answer from the mods.

Fat people are people. They know they’re fat, dont like it, and possibly haven’t had the tools and resources that most of the people on this forum persued. I want them to be happy with who they are, and working out can be intimidating at the beginning, so the carrot will work better than a stick. And that’s ok.
There’s a balance between accepting who you are and trying to improve. Sometimes that balance needs to be shifted in your life depending on where you are. Finances fluctuate, where you live could change in a moment, relationships are mercurial, and sometimes you’re fit, sometimes not. An FFB can win a bodybuilding show, and a former bodybuilder can gain some weight becaus as humans we get to decide what’s important for us.
They don’t piss me off, the tv shows about obese people do, the medical and culinary culture that feeds (see what I did there) the process pisses me off also.
In a couple hundred years we’re all going to be skeletons anyway.
Everyone is fighting their own battle, so be kind.
Great post, @Brant_Drake.
Years ago I worked as a weight loss counselor at a Jenny Craig weight loss center. I continue to give information and encouragement in my current role. People eat how their families ate, for the most part. It takes great effort to change foundational learning. We think, because we’re interested, that everyone knows about sound nutrition, but this simply isn’t the case. People pour Campbells Cream of Mushroom soup over a pile of chicken and maybe a can of green beans in the crock pot and then dump it over mashed potatoes, call it home cooking, and feel they’ve served their family a good dinner. I live in a state that requires calorie counts on menus for chain restaurants, and even I am shocked at the 2300 calorie salads. My husband loves a BBQ chicken salad at the 110 Grill that rings in at 1700 cal. I’m not even sure what-all is in it, but the chicken is fried.
Then there’s the socioeconomic piece. I read or heard somewhere that poor people prioritize calories and quantity; middle class people, which I assume are most of us, prioritize fresh, healthy food; and wealthy people prioritize presentation. From what I’ve observed, this rings true. I made a beef veggie soup yesterday, which will serve as this week’s prepped food. I have no idea how much it cost to make it - I know the london broil I used was almost $10, but the veggies? Who knows. Then there’s the time and effort. I probably spent an hour prepping it in my clean, pleasant kitchen on a blustery fall day after a long early morning hike, some strength work, house cleaning, and grocery store trip. I had time for all of these healthy activities because we can afford for me to be home on Mondays, doing homey things. (Attached is a pic I sent to my husband.)
Lastly, I think it’s crazy to say that there isn’t a genetic component. Families, habits aside, tend to look alike, and I’ve worked with a great many people who have far more difficulty than I do dropping weight. My metabolism is healthy for my age in part because I work at it, but it is also because I’m fidgety and like to be in motion. CAN people overcome these deficits? Of course! MUST they? No. I do what I do because I like it. I like to eat mounds of vegetables and go for long walks. When I was running regularly I was thrilled to peel 30 seconds off my truly mediocre mile. Now I’m delighted to extend my sprints when that cycles through as my focus.
Great post! I agree 100% here. Genetics / age etc play a big component.
I like this too, but agree its really up to the individual.
Nice meal prep and results BTW!
So maybe the topic of the post could be “Do willfully ignorant people unwilling to explore change annoy you, even just a little?”
Even the poorest (another topic your described logic could be extrapolated to) and dumbest amongst us understand that eating too many calories makes you fat. All but the most inept could deduce “maybe I should investigate my diet” and we can all access Google.
Maybe this gap in execution, for those who say they want to lose weight, or especially loudly complain about their bodies, is where the annoyance comes from.
Maybe it’s not an annoyance in how fat they are, but in how weak they are. While some may not get to enjoy whimsical musings about a fall day where they made soup, they can certainly crockpot a similar dish. London broils and carrots are not out of reach budget items. And if they are, circle back to excusing a “poor” mentality.
The Jenny Craig crowd is an interesting one. I dated a woman whose sister was fat as fuck and participated in Jenny Craig. It was like a cult the way she explained it. Dieting meets Tony Robbins. She went for the high of the promise of improvement, euphorically engaged for an inconsequential amount of time and reverted to being a fatass, only to repeat the cycle for the emotional high and false hope ad naseum. This family was not hurting for money or time.
Some people need a hard bounce they don’t want to repeat again, not a soft landing encouraging poor habits with excuses imo.
Another example, there was this chubby kid in elementary and junior high. My era was perhaps the last one where bullying was accepted as just part of growing up, except for very severe cases. And fat kids were not normal at all. This kid was definitely bullied, especially when he tried out for sports in Jr High. Anyways, guy made it on the football team (everybody did) but never saw a game so he quit. And got absolutely jacked over the next few years. By high school he was an absolute stud. Dated the hottest girls, never did become an athlete but beat up some of prior worst offenders and last I heard (it’s been years) he was a successful club promoter in LA with part ownership in a few. All because being pudgy was more uncomfortable than figuring out how to change it. And when he empowered himself he basically became what most late teen to early twenties guys dream about. His mom was fat too, btw, so it’s not like the generational thing is an actual curse.
It’s ok to be annoyed by failure and probably healthy. Even failure in others, especially if it comes from weak willpower. Not that all fat people care, of course. And in that case to each their own. Just quit fucking up insurance and medical care costs.
I’m more pissed off at homeless people, but only bc I have to deal w/them everyday
First, for clarity, we don’t encourage or condone the language and insults that were used in this thread, and we do our best to nip things in the bud as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, sometimes things happen after hours, though.
In this case, action has now been taken.
We don’t typically publicly discuss the reason that a user has been suspended or banned, but trust that we are pretty relaxed here. It takes several warnings and repeated offenses before actions are taken. For the sake of context, those two members were not banned or suspsended for personal attacks, but rather other behaviors that they were asked to kindly stop and did not.
In terms of overall content, you’re correct in slight jabs at one another are fine. We get heated. It’s life, especially on the internet. But those insults need to be within a respectable window.
Anyway, hopefully this discussion can be salvaged.
About the only time I give obese people much thought, is when I get pissed off that I cannot afford to fly first class.
Fat people are people.
Yes.
They know they’re fat, dont like it,
I don’t know how true this is. I think you could replace don’t like it with don’t care or don’t want to think about it.
possibly haven’t had the tools and resources that most of the people on this forum persued.
I disagree. Many of us didn’t have the resources that exist today. We didn’t have YouTube or even this forum. We had books and magazines. We followed the stupid advice in magazines like Flex and used protein powder that tasted like chalk. Some of us used those cement weights or made our own weights. How much does a Planet Fitness membership cost? For all of its faults, it has good equipment. And the bottom line is, if someone doesn’t know the concepts of diet and exercise at this point, then they have other problems.
Everyone is fighting their own battle
Many don’t even know they are at war.
so be kind.
I wouldn’t say we should mock these people, especially to their faces (it doesn’t help they outnumber the fit people) but, and this gets back to them becoming the majority, they are now making the rules. They are saying what is healthy. They are telling doctors as well as other professionals what is healthy. Is this annoying? Maybe not but it is dangerous. If we believe as you stated that they don’t like being fat, in which case they are unhappy, even miserable, then imagine a nation full of physically unhealthy as well emotionally ill people. This cannot be good. So maybe we shouldn’t be annoyed but we should be worried.
I appreciate you. I honestly was more speaking my mind rather than asking for a ‘why’. Its your forum and your business, not mine. I do appreciate you helping keep things civil. Clear cursing and direct attacks are uncalled for and bad for the forum. If one has a negative view of the topic, it can be expressed in a mature manner.
Until they become an arrogant assinine know it all about something they couldn’t do themselves without them.
I have done it without them. It takes a lot more discipline in diet and hard work. I never touched them while I was playing college ball and arena and I was a lean 245, but I was running all the time and lifting like a madman and young lol.
Irl when I see people getting picked on who cant help themselves, I walk up and cold cock the bully. Always have, always will.
Are obese people incapable of helping themselves? Did they just become a protected minority or what?
The only thing that can help a person change is themselves ultimately.
I don’t like bullies either, but this was in generalities. I don’t see anyone getting bullied other than an archetype or characterization. I was a former fat kid myself and I have very little respect for the obese as it is a choice. I am not going to make fun of them and I would help anyone who actually wanted help. But, the only victims they are is of their own choices - like anything else.
Here’s what pisses me off. Most people I know engage in the proto typical “Westerner”
“Lets all eat Poptart’s and drink Monsters all day diet”
Why? I have no idea. Convenience maybe?
Anyways. What pisses me off is when they “Side Eye” me for eating healthy!
WHF? If someone quits smoking, drinking or doing drugs. Everyone applauds and says GREAT JOB . I’m so proud of you.
But, If you clean up your diet. Start working out and begin showing results.
People are like “Who’s this friggen guy”?
What, are you on some sort of DIET? or something?
Are you some big fitness guru now?
Come on man!! Have some cake/Pie/doughnuts with us. You used to…
Is it only me who gets shit?
I think we are in violent agreement.
Good points.
In all fairness the drugs he used build muscle, they barely help one reduce fat. That’s all nutrition and will power. Still, I get your point.
I’m not an expert, but this claim doesn’t pass a basic common sense test. Building and maintaining muscle takes calories. Having more muscle will make you leaner if you eat the same amount.
Anecdotally, I have also heard from people on gear that it’s much easier to stay lean. Anabolic steroids shuttle nutrients to your muscles instead of your fat.
About the only time I give obese people much thought, is when I get pissed off that I cannot afford to fly first class.
How long would you sit in an uncomfortable position for a few thousand dollars? Think of it as getting paid to fly coach.
