Dip Issue

hey, I’ve been gaining steadily on dips for a while now…but I’ve found it impossible to add more plates onto the belt because of the chain length (I assume it’s normal length. It’s the gym’s belt). Putting on 3 plates is pushing it for my boys and anything more would be impossible. I could do more reps but I really want to increase my max strength. Is there a dip belt with an extra long chain I could buy somewhere? Should I buy a weighted vest to increase the resistance? If so is there a specific site someone could direct me to for a good deal? Thanks

Scott

I don’t understand the problem. Use a dumbbell. Do you not have dumbbells at your gym?

anything more than 3 45lb plates on the belt and my testicles get crushed from the lack of chain. I need a longer chain or some other type of added resistance. that’s why i mentioned the weighted vest. Dips are no longer fun…and they’re one of my favorite exercises.

How the hell is he supposed to attach a dumbbell to his dip belt?

AS for the OP’s question. You can cut the cain off and oput your own one on. IF there is no loop where the belt meets the chain leave one or two links and add the chain to that with a chain fastener/extender or a carabiners (climbers ring).

You’re kidding right? I never said he has to ATTATCH the dumbbell to his dip belt. Instead of using PLATES, use a DUMBBELL. It’s easier to use and doesn’t ride your crotch.

well its not that hard to attach one, just guess, its very simple, cause i do it all the time, and you can add multiple dumbells, you just have to intertwine the chain around one end of each dumbell

Where is he going to hold a dumbbell when hes doing dips?

I would guess his legs.

Anyway there are many other things you can do…

i dunno… try a second belt and hang weight on your back side as well as front

or just get a bigger chain… go to a hardware store

a weighted vest is an option, are you just asking if it is?

What I do is I have a chain I bought from Home depot for cheap and a clip… I run the chain through a weight lifting belt. You can adjust the height as you need… get plenty and let the extra just hang down.

Hope that was helpful.

How is he going to hold a 135# DB, or more in the crook of his legs?

At least someone has a brain here…

I’ve been questioning that this whole thread!

thx for the feedback. i was looking for multiple alternatives so i could decide for myself what would be the best option. i can’t really see myself leg lifting 140lb db+ before i actually dip it lol.

HAHA FOR CHRISTS SAKE!! I’m not talking about holding a fucking dumbbell between your damn feet. I will post a picture. I can’t believe no one understands what I am saying.

this is what I am talking about!

feel ya brother. i always use dumbbells and even a 150 is no problem to use with a dip belt…not rocket science

I do dips with a dumbbell held with my feet. What’s the problem with that?

oh ok, i needed a visual. sometimes things don’t process in other people’s minds like you think they would.

on a thread with the same question a while ago some one suggested to use a backpack and put the weights in there…after reaching 3 45’s i was at the same place as you, what i did was move from dips on the bars to dips between benches with my partner putting the weights on my lap, and it’s been working great - i’ve passed 4 45’s, don’t think i could’ve done it with the belt or dumbells(ours go up to 120)…if you decide to try them this way just watch out for the weight sliding over your knees…

Go to a hardware store and buy two clip pins and some length of chain and use this as an extension on the original chain on the belt.

I always recommend Ironmind’s dipping belt, but that’s if you want to buy another one.
