Dieting with Shelby

this morning

Your weight loss wasn’t that large in terms of a number which can be frustrating but it’s a noticeable improvement visually… great work and keep it up.

Do you get fibrous carbs now? Or none at all, just protein and fat?[/quote]

Not counting fibrous or incidentals. The last 4 weeks has been 35g carbs on med days spread across 3 meals. and 15g on low days split in 2 meals. So meals containing 22 grams of oats, 12 grams of oats. Stuff like that. Very rough for me.

Awesome update time though!!

So after 25.5 weeks of dieting we decided to take a break and raise cals for the next 8-12 weeks. I didn’t realise what a relief it would be. But I instantly felt better mentally/emotionally.

He said we are going to ease into it. But, his easing into it plan brought a tear to my eye. Pretty much starting off with the same plan I started on when I began in week 1. I don’t know if I was happier about the carb increase or the cardio decrease.

So slow lean gain, recover metabolism for the next 2-3 months. Then push hard one last time to try and get leaner than I am now for the remaining 12 weeks or so that I have with Shelby.

I will put some stats up from my weight loss on Monday.

25 weeks was definitely the longest I have ever gone in full diet mode. And the only reason i would ever want to do that again is if i ever did a competition. Hoping to keep my cutting to 16 weeks max from here on out.

Yeah, that looks like solid progress to me. For me just going off the last 12 weeks, it has been the same, less scale, more visual.

thanks, both you guys. i just thought given the amount of time i was dieting and the amount of activity i worked up to, i’d have made a little more progress

really 8-12 weeks to raise your metabolism? i’ve seen CT just recommend something like 2 weeks so i’ve always gone by that…

anyway so what is your new (starting) plan looking like?

Thats crazy!

At least you know what is required for you now, you will never have that doubt of knowing what would have happened with a professional. Now you can set realistic goals and how long it takes to achieve them.

Well, that would be a benefit of starting a lean gain now. Not that it would take that long.

Now its 2 highs, 3 meds, 2 lows. No cardio on high days… Hallelujah!!!

Stats

2/6/2010 - 8/7/2010
Weight 225.8 - 189.8
Ab skin fold 38.5 - 12.5
Side skin fold 22 - 7
Chest skin fold 19.5 - 7
Gut circumference 38.75 - 33.25
Self measured BodyFat using 3 sites - 22.16 - 9.46

So that is it in a nutshell. Take the next 8-12 weeks to bring the cals back up and try to recover some muscle/size/strength. Then strip off as much fat as possible hopefully coming in leaner than I am now. Thankfully the next 12 weeks will actually allow me to be a normal human. I have tons of energy now compared to the last 8 weeks. Cardio was more intense and when i was slowing i could actually tell myself to go faster and it worked. Instead of my body giving me the finger and barely hanging on. haha.

Back

Solid work, to both of you

Awesome progress Beau.

Thanks guys… I think my progress was good. I would eventually like to push for a leaner physique though. Slowly reaching for that next level of conditioning. Isn’t it the journey not the destination though? So I just have to keep on keeping on.

Man I cannot get over how much better I feel. I really hope we dont have to drop to those levels of carbs again. I realize now that most of my hours for the last 8 weeks were spent in zombie mode and really lethargic. I have crazy amounts of energy right now with nowhere near the amount of stims i was taking. I have been getting shit done around the house too. Stuff that i put off just because i didn’t have any energy to move. And technically I am still in a metabolic deficit.

One more thing… Ezekiel Bread = Awesome. I should have been eating this stuff from the beginning. Well, at least until my carbs dropped.

Question?

For anyone that has done a lean gain with Shelby. Does the food list ever change? It would be nice to get some beans/fruits/carrots/corn/peas in that order… LOL… and other veggies that aren’t on his list.

It didn’t really change for me… in a dream world he’d send over a new list that said something like

Protein:

Cheeseburger, meat lovers pizza, bacon

Carbs:

Ice cream and Cinnamon toast crunch

Fats:
KFC chicken skin

but alas, it never came to be. He gave me unlimited reign on veggies with meals and fruit was OKed to be used if I wanted. We talked about some differing fat sources but nothing crazy changed. I don’t know about the peas/carrots as they are high sugar for a vegetable but I imagine if you want to sacrifice a handful of carbs from a meal to make wiggle room for those it would be more than fine.

Beans are allowed but I was instructed to count the protein AND carbs in them, that changed my mind about whether I really wanted them or not.

hahaha… yeah I like your first list. How much to sign up with you?

Kind of the reply I expected. I guess I will wait to see what changes he decides to make, if any. If I get more room for carbs then I would just like to add in a little extra variety instead of just more bulk ounces of rice/potatoes/oats.

Or if more fats it would be cool to chew on some peanuts/almonds/walnuts instead of just eating the nut butter.

I would gladly sacrifice 30 grams of oats out of 100 for some blue berries or strawberries.

7oz of rice 5oz of black beans and 5 oz of chicken instead of
11oz of rice 6oz of chicken. Just stuff like that.

Mainly it just makes it more fun in the kitchen too, specially when I have extra energy. I like cooking.

We will talk about my services through PM… money back warranty on it saying I can get you to gain weight.

Guys, reading through this post… the diets sound pretty painful.

For those who have tried other structured diets, how does Shelby rake in terms of painfulness, and effectiveness?

I didn’t know there was an easier way to dieting/fat loss?

Its not meant to be easy to get results in my opinion.

This is along the lines of what i was going to reply with.

For me, looking back, it didn’t get really hard until the last 8 weeks or so. I think dieting for 25-26 weeks straight would be hard on any program.

I have gotten pretty close to this lean before with regular dieting then doing the V-diet. Yes, it was brutal. I have gone through probably 4-5 cutting cycles and trying different strategies, and they were all hard. Getting lean sucks. Period. if you aren’t naturally lean.

For me it was an issue of time versus difficulty… I was never really hungry except for 15-20 minutes before my next meal on some low days, the food varies enough so that you get different things when you want them(ie peanut butter on low days, sweet potato on high etc). The guys that are on trace carbs or keto diets with a good deal of cardio, yes that sucks but it’s the price to pay to get where they want to go.

Bueller…Anyone…

Not much here, still bulking away.

Quick facts:
Getting fatter
have eaten 115lbs of rice and 78lbs of top round since March 15.
still hate cardio
8 months to go
