Dieting with Shelby

oh, just another 0-cal condiment… i forgot to mention it before and it just so happened to pop in my head

Maybe in the 1 spray serving size(lol) but if you are spraying that thing 10 times on potato for instance it is going to add up.

Same with Pam spray or other cooking oils. The serving size is a 1/4 of a second, it takes 3 seconds at least to coat a pan haha… when the first ingredient is canola or olive oil you can’t really justify it’s fat or calorie free, it’s just a loophole with the label.

Will it matter? Probably not unless you are ODing on the stuff but just beware it’s not 0 calorie.

oh yeah i know. i only use a couple sprays. add a little sea salt to enhance the taste and it comes through pretty buttery

finally had my cheat meal last night

the run down:
pulled pork
baked sweet potato fries
a couple sausages
around an 8 ounce steak
a couple butter tarts
chocolate chip cookies
and about a cup of ice cream

and this morning i only weighed 2 lbs more than 24 hours before. i thought there was something wrong with me (lol)

The last 2 weeks of my progressive 12 I had that completely drained feeling.

I thought about it a little and (purely my opinion) I think I was suffering some adrenal fatigue. I was using Metabotrop 3 times a day, and cognitrop (4 caps) twice a day on top.

But Mentally I was so crushed, it actually halted my progress I think. More than once I could only “go through the motions” in the gym. This was while trying to work 12 hour night shifts etc, so that also played a role.

Nice, cookies…mmmm Cookies/donuts/pop-tarts/oatmeal creampies etc… are my downfall. Its hard to eat just a couple. The worst was bagging up and freezing my un-eaten oatmeal cookies the next morning after my last cheat meal. It took every ounce of will power to not eat one or 8. :frowning:

My last 2 cheat meals i have tried to keep it carb heavy. And this last one was the best one yet as far as filling out. When i get another one i am going to push the fats down even further. Less ice cream, more burritos.

I am definitely not having pizza again any time soon. Having a whole pizza just seemed to back me up and stop anything from digesting for like 7 days after the meal. The burritos moved through nicely.

I’m looking forward to updating the thread with new pics early next week. It will be my 6 month mark.

Later,
Beau

in terms of progress instead of a ‘cheat’ would it be better to have a ‘refeed’, meaning just carbs and protein and not going crazy with all the deserts, fatty meats, fried stuff etc?

it seems (to me) like it would limit the fat gain/maximize glycogen uptake but then again i figured shelby would have said something if it were the case(my cheat meal ‘rules’ were one meal, whatever i want and as much as i want)…

I asked Shelby that very question some time back, he basically said if he preferred that sort of meal he would have said so. Simple and to the point lol

In my mind, the carbs/overall calories are doing the physical work of the cheat meal while the fattier foods are the mental break aspect. If you are craving pizza but choose pancakes for your free meal because it was low fat, you will probably get the metabolism boosting effect but still really want pizza lol.

my last cheat he did mention to focus on carbs. And he also said, make it a big one. I told him he was the boss. hahaha… because that was music to my ears.

I have been having one about every 2 weeks since we dropped to pretty low carbs. Guess we will see if that schedule holds as this sat will be 2 weeks.

I just want to be ripped. PERIOD!

The only thing I am going to ask for out of this entire 1 year diet is this. If i am still hardcore cutting when Halo Reach comes out that we bump the cals up for that week so I actually have energy to play my video game. Carbs or not doesnt matter to me.

Just checking in. I’ve been having a weekly cheat meal, as I’m in a bit of a state of limbo with the delay to surgery. Probably would have skipped a few of them had I known, but my strength is unreal compared to last time I dieted down.

In week 13 I hit an all time raw bench PR (270ish lbs at 180 - it was 122.5kg) and I got a 400lb squat in just a belt on Monday at the start of week 15. Last diet I couldn’t get that in briefs at the end.

Last cheat meal tonight. We’ve rolled a few things around for the surgery next week, like dropping fish oil down to a much lower dose on low days.

Quick question - I’ve had barely 5 hours sleep tonight and I feel fine. I worked till 12 midnight and up at 545. I’ve never willingly had such little sleep on a diet. Anyone else had this? I swear I woke up, 4-5 times in the night! I’m taking a stim break for a few weeks after this. Not even caffeinated diet coke. Just Sprite Zero etc.

Leaner and stronger than ever? Can’t beat that. Good job! Wish my strength would start to come around. I am doing everything i can to hold my reps and weight where they are.

Yeah, sleep comes and goes for me. Only after a cheat meal do i get a full nights sleep. On the restless nights i urinate a lot too, but only because i am already awake. I’m taking caffeine and ephedra. I stopped for 3 weeks after my eye surgery and my strength started to fall a little and i dont think i looked as dry and cut.

Good luck on your surgery, if it ever comes. LOL…

i have not slept through a single night in the past 2 months without waking up several times. whether its to go to the bathroom or whatever, i just cant do it.

actually last night i just said fuck it and got some nyquil… it worked. i only woke up once. im hoping it will just allow me to get myself into a better sleeping habit (not gonna be staple supplement or anything). aside from a couple calories are there any adverse effects BB/diet related?

I’ve never used NyQuil regularly to help sleep. But i do take this stuff.

I take 3 ZMA’s, 2-3 Z-12’s, and 2 tabs of melatonin every night. And I use benadryl sporadically because it has been shown to have placebo like affects in as little as 3 days in a row of use(according to Wiki). And the Benadryl does leave me a little drowsy in the morning. But i tend to sleep more when i use it.

Z-12 is the best thing i have ever tried as a sleep aid.

I’m not working with Shelby, but I am doing a very low carb plan right now and having the same experience. I think when we cut all the carbs out of our system there is nothing for the water to bind to. Anything we put in just goes right through.

I have been trying to front-load my water intake during the day and taper it off in the evening to minimize the amount of middle of the night bathroom trips I take.

The lower carb diets are natural diuretics but it’s an interesting phenomenon that almost all bodybuilders seem to share of getting and really needing less sleep as they diet down. When I’m say 12-15% body fat I can sleep 9-10 hours if I don’t have to get up for something but getting leaner than that I couldn’t force myself to sleep much more than 6-6.5 hours.

Could be stimulant related as it stands to reason as someone is leaner chances are they are on fat burners/more fat burners than when they were heavier… I’d be interested in anyone had a solid understanding on why people sleep less when leaner.

We’ve just held steady the last two weeks really. Even my scale weight has remained the same. Havent yet got back under 180 like I was the day my surgery was originally planned for.

If anything happens and the surgery gets postponed again, i’m still going to knock diet on the head and start gaining. Sick of 1hr a day of cardio!

I dont have much to update… carbs for the past 3 weeks… 35 on med days, 15 on lows… pretty much in Fuck my life mode

How long have you been dieting for now beaul?
