Dieting with Shelby

Home made pasta and fruit/yogurt? You are doing it wrong :frowning:

May I suggest instead

Pizza(of course)
1/2 baked Ben and Jerry’s Ice cream spooned onto home made waffles/pancakes
Diet Coke

I’m kidding, that’s good control you’ve got… I tend to go a little nuts with my cheat meal(s).

Any of you guys working with shelby have any info on why his prices went up considerably?

Well, depending on how i feel after the giant serving of spaghetti, I do have some ice cream on standby from the last cheat, as well as some poptarts. I am sure they will call my name. But they are last if i still have room. I’m really just looking forward to the carbs. I couldn’t care less about the taste of food anymore. I would say he has broke me in pretty good.

waylander - I have no idea… But I would assume maybe he has started to get a lot of clients and either wants to make more money for all the time its taking or wants to stop any more from coming in. hahaha… If i get the results i am picturing in my head, then 1200 for a year would still be worth it to me.

In addition to demand, I think it has to do with what price the market will bear. For instance, others offering the same services as Shelby were considerably more expensive prior to his increase. Now they appear more in line with his peers.

Hmm interesting. I was considering hiring him for offseason and pre contest, but the former went up $50 and the latter nearly $200 so thats out the window.

The other 2 diet coaches who work for troponin nutrition are charging about half of what Shelby is, I find that strange.

Shelby had mentioned to me a few weeks ago he was going to raise his rates… I assume since he’s gotten so much more exposure this last year he felt it was time . He really is still more affordable than most trainers though. Guys like Aceto, Farrah, Milos etc are in the several thousands of dollars based on their names alone.

Offseason wise you know what you are doing clearly, when you are ready to peel it down for your first show though I think hiring someone will really ease your mind come the last few weeks whether it’s Shelby or someone else.

It was only a matter of time. I was lucky enough to hire him at the 350 mark. But to be honest he is worth the extra.

I agree with you, it really only was a matter of time. Shelby’s profile has been growing rapidly so its no surprise he has more people coming to him to diet. Whether he is doing this to narrow the numbers of clients or simply to make more coin I have no idea.

I got a year for 800 which I thought was fair…would I go ahead and sign up for another 12? Im not sure …Its not that I dont think he provides a damn good service…but after a period, how much can be changed which you couldnt figure out yourself? Fat loss stalls, drop carbs a little and up cardio a little.

Actually thats probably a huge oversimplicfication and Shelby does know his stuff, but people can still get lean on their own

Definitely why i hired him. I pretty much just wanted to confirm what i already knew worked. And i have also never been shredded, so i just wanted that extra assurance that i was going to get it done the right way.

Piece of mind type of thing.

Yup, good points. I’ll definitely be hiring someone for precontest although it will probably be the Matt Knowles (did I get that right?) fella, since he’s like $300 cheaper and it’s not like I will be doing a pro qualifier or anything.

If he’s on the Troponin team (and judging by his credentials) I’m sure he will be more than adequate to get you where you want to go. Mike Knowles though

Mainevent/Dr. Fox does some pretty awesome work with clients as well.

So out of the two which would you pick?

I honestly have got no clue who Mike is… Chris is a mod at another forum(Promuscle) and was/is a contributor at EliteFTS so I’m more familiar with him.

I’d do some googling and find out experiences with both and how they interact with clients, maybe even email Shelby with your goals and see who out of them he thinks would be the better fit for you.

I think anyone under the troponin umbrella will be really solid…I believe theyre very proud and protective of their brand. I have also heard good things about Chris.

I have no doubt they could help you out during your contest prep

Damnit, Scott. SPOONFEED ME THE INFORMATION!

Haha, yah I’ll do some looking around, thanks.

Most competitors already knew who he was, but in the past year, he’s been receiving a ton of attention on the RX site, as well as co-authoring articles in Flex Magazine. I’d say that’s raised his profile quite a bit, despite having not won his recent show.

(The day after I nabbed my pro card, I upped my rates considerably! -lol)

Stu, do you take online clients like the troponin guys do?

So far I’ve only worked with people in the NY area, but I guess it would be the same (pics, spreadsheets etc). I’m pretty anal about my clients, and have computer files on each of them, with weekly pics, stats, and every time I alter their diet/cardio schedule.

The last two guys I prepped both took top 3 in their first shows, so my track record with actual comeptitors ain’t too shabby -lol. I did find myself constantly answering texts all day (my amazing girlfriend is quite understanding!), but I guess the piece of mind you get when someone else is making all the decisions for you is the important thing. Hence hiring a coach in the first place

Out of curiosity, if you hire a coach for pre contest do they suggest drug protocols to you or is that an area that they don’t venture into?
