that’s rough man, im rooting for ya. if its any consolation i think i’m gonna be brought done to trace carbs as well. this past sunday i was told i was going to be transitioned onto a “very low carbs diet”. im at 60 grams a day now so im guessing ill get dropped to 30 this coming sunday…

how much more weight are you tring to lose?

Beaul
great progress! almost down 30 pounds, thats awesome… now what is it you said about this refeed? lol
Well I want to Bulk actually but I need to get as lean as possible. I gain fat far far to easily and can’t bare the thought of cutting for a long time again. Basically took me 13 months to go from 20% and 236lbs, to where I am now. Originally stated 4 years ago at 305lbs and unknowen BF%. Along the way I hired a Biosig Practitioner, and worked with the Best Naturopathic doctor in my Province. I can safely say I have the worst fat loss genetics on Tmuscle.

I wonder if Tim Patterson will adopt me and somehow prove me wrong :D.

But Shelby insists I have 5 pounds of fat to loose before we can try anykind of lean bulk. We’ll see what happens. I’ve put my blind fate into Shelby, even though My intuition tells me otherwise.
hmm i gain fat pretty easily myself. i dont think im as bad off as you are but i think i know how you feel. its the most frustrating thing ever watching my friends get drunk and eat fast food every night of the week while im eating oats and tuna on top of hours and hours of cardio and training… fuckers ;).

i hired shelby for the same reason you did i think: get lean enough to start putting on muscle. i signed up for the progressive thinking i was gonna get ripped but idk about that anymore… im on my fifth week now and havent made much progress. i wanted to get down to at least 12% bodyfat but i was really hoping to get down to 10%… shelby said he thought if every thing went smoothly he could get me down to 10% within the 12 weeks but i dont know if that’s gonna happen any more. i have a little over 7 weeks to go, but is it really plausible to think i can go from about 18% body fat to 10-12%?
I think its probably very optimistic…That would be a huge drop in 7 weeks and not something I think could be done without shedding a boat load of muscle.

I think the way to look at it is not “how soon can I get to 10%”, but more as something you will continue to work at until you get there. Whether that takes 7 weeks or 37 weeks is irrelevant, make it your goal and dont give up until you achieve it.

I think looking at it that way will make you much more likely to stick with it as well, rather than getting to 10% and then going back to old ways. Just my 0.02c
yeah i agree. i am gonna go until i hit the 10-12% mark but i was just hoping i would be there by the time i go back college for the semester… oh well ill still be much leaner
You can do it. Don’t base your upcoming results from my experiences. I’m an oddity

GO hit it hard, don’t give up. Understand.

ah well thanks. i appreciate the support. who knows i might even be happy before i hit %10. idk i dont think i’ve ever been below 16-17% so i guess time will tell.

why is it that shelby wanted you to be lower than 12% to start bulking? bc 12 is too high to start or bc you put on fat too easily?

I’m not sure to tell you the truth. His “guidline” for lean bulking is always to see the outline of abs I think. So at 12% (and with slight cortisol issues) I don’t quite have the ‘abs’ just yet.

shelby’s methods aren’t the most scientific  but they work for mostly everybody.

Ah looks like the blood work thing has been looked over by guys well beyond my expertise. I am very familiar with your frustration in terms of the test thing as I was in the 270-300 range several times(after being refused blood work for a long time) and told nothing was wrong. Tested out at 10 freaking 4 ng/dl with a ref range of 262-1593 and demanded treatment. The PA didn’t do the free test, e2, prolactin etc levels that I asked for but that will be monitored on my follow up visits once the HRT “kicks in”. You’ve got quite the puzzle there.

No surprise on the Chol being well within normal though especially if he’s got you using whole omega 3 or free range eggs. John Meadows(google “mountaindog diet”) has his guys use whole eggs, grass fed beef, grass fed butter, etc and their lipids improve time and time again.

As far as the leaning down thing I know he prefers people to be at that ab level but at least someone like me with genetically weak and underdeveloped abs that isn’t happening. I have veins from my shoulders to my finger tips and see them in my VMO, back, and calves, but no abs lol. Such is life but we both feel I’m lean enough for some “cushion room”.

Yeah sounds like me lol. I got the limbs of a 10% or lower, just not the mid section.

As for my Blood panel testing, Doctors don’t like doing extra tests. So When the Doc gives me my blood script I just fill in the boxes I want.

He’s to old to be practicing anyway, so I use him to get notes or Blood tests when I need. He doesn’t even remember what we’re testing so a Return with “estradiol” on my blood test he wouldn’t think twice hahah!

It’s my life can’t be fucking around with “Professionals”

damn i was hoping i could start gaining once my twelve weeks were up but i dont think i’ll have abs by then. maybe close but doubtful…

how ‘bad’ is your stomach though? is it JUST stomach fat (no love handles, pec fat etc…)? if so, maybe you could have it surgically removed?

I have love handles yep. Probably my worst part. My stomach isn’t terrible it’s just bad compared to my triceps site which is what Poliquin Biosigniture practitioners use as a guideline.

Here is my latest Pinch: Weight 210lbs, 6’3"

Site: Measure: (in mm)
cheek - 8
Chin - 3.2
Pec - 4.2
Triceps - 4.8
SubScarp - 11
Mid Ax - 8
Supra lliac - 9.2
Umbil - 11
Patella - 6
Calf - 5.6
thigh - 8.6
Ham - 6

Body fat % : 12.01
Lean mass: 184.78
Fat Mass 25.22
BMR: 4361

So the Umbilical is my highest measure at 11mm. It isn’t rediculous but higher. Comp bodybuilders are 2-3mm so I mean my tricep and pec a damn low, however It’s funny because I store lots of fat on my chest but not at the exact spot Poliquin instructs his practitioners to pinch! So shrug I don’t know.

Im probably stating the obvious here but some guys dont have the ridged up ab structure…I think its a genetic thing. Ive seen comp bodybuilders without abs…not because they werent lean eneough but the structure wasnt there

yeah, lipo. im no expert in this hormonal/biosig field but from what i have read ‘I THINK’ if Darkane has had all these hormonal issues for so long, his body has probably created an extreme amount of actual fat cells in those area. also very fast weight gain in a short amount of time (especially during puberty) makes it easy for fat cells to be created. more fat cells = easier to store fat and harder to lose fat. and supposedly the only to get rid of a fat cell is through surgery…

the ab thing is genetic, like in ScottM’s case. i think it was boyer coe that had the same problem

Don Howorth is a good example who shows this well. Plenty lean but it’s rare to find a picture of him where you can even see faint ab separation(he has to be crunching down a bit). Then there are guys that are 15-20% boydfat who you can always see their abs, even if they have love handles, it’s just the luck of the draw.

Yeah that’s possible. I’ve read about the teenage fat cells sticking with you for life. Actually I think I read it in Thib’s forum so I’ll assume it’s reliable.

As for the Hormones being messed for so long, it seems now in my Adulthood they’re rather good except for the low T.

My Estradiol last year was 87 (<200 range) and this year 90 (<200 Range). So I mean that’s good, err good enough. It could be lower

Did you ever get the ammonia smell during fasted cardio?

today was the first time it happened to me and i’ve heard it means im in a catabolic state?

also anyone know when shelby’s getting back from the comp and how he did?

No. I’m weird though I don’t even get into ketosis anymore lol. I thought the ammonia smell had more to do with that than catabolism. I’ve never had it I’m pretty sure.

Not sure how he did, find out soon I’m guessing

Not sure about the ammonia smell…

Think hes back to normal from tomorrow

Just keeping along, I’d be interested to hear more about this if you don’t mind. Thanks for sharing so far and good luck keepin’ on, I understand you must be pretty frustrated at times. Just keep that nose to the grindstone.

Update for me:

The week before last I had exams and I took a deload. Flipped out after it was all over and had about half a loaf of ezekiel bread w/ almond butter. My weight jumped to 176. I do not handle stress well and I am learning this and how to better prepare for it as it comes.

I also checked out Sam’s which was awesome. I got lean turkey for about 2.50/lb and some other random stuff. I was a bit disappointed with the butcher shop as they didn’t have any london broil top round cuts. I got sirloin tip instead, which I didn’t marinate enough and it is a bit tough.

I also got two 1-lb bags of beef jerky and a box of protein bars which were intended for a rainy day, which I ended up eating during the week.

Either way, I’m around 170 and still getting leaner, so this cheating isn’t hurting me too bad. Shelby agreed and the fat is now coming off my lower back and midsection.

I’m surprised how much fat was on my ass and legs. I had dress pants I had to retire due to how obscenely tight they were that I am wearing again comfortably.

Still no change in the plan and I’m happy with the progress.

Not sure everyone follows what Shelby does with his own training… but he placed 5th at the Jr. Nationals this weekend and looked pretty awesome as a LHW.

Must have lost his glasses at the show

Sounds like good progress even with the little hiccups!

My legs hold a lot too. Its been like 3 to 1 when comparing improvements in upper to lower.

I had a change this week. :frowning: Medium days are now almost down to where my low days started. Im now below 100 grams on all days and that is with counting incidentals(green beans, peanut butter, protein powder etc…

But i do get a cheat meal tonight. Praise Jesus!!! I’m having homemade(mostly) spaghetti with turkey pepperoni. I had some frozen so i just have to pull it out and heat it up. I also bought a banana, some raisins, and a small cup of yogurt for a nice oatmeal desert. 7 weeks ago was my last cheat meal. Probably be in an insulin coma in about 30 min. LOL
