I was thinking that myself but I didn’t want to be rude and state it. He even twitches his nose like he’s trying to control some drip near the end.

What a fucking clown.

Yeah, apart from the Kimbo fight, it was a pretty decent card.

I hope Elite XC dont go to the wall. The more organisations the better. What can I say? I just like watching fights.

I bet they really regret not pulling Kimbo from the card, after Shamrock getting cut.

The sad thing is…at this point,it would have been a mistake to pull Kimbo from that card at an event in Florida.

That was actually unfair for Kimbo…I’m pretty sure Shaw “pushed” him to go ahead and fight anyways.

I doubt it…Kimbo is a man who will fight anyone, any time, anywhere, or so the myth goes. I think even Kimbo may have bought into his own hype a little.

Well you do have a point…I like how Jared Shaw is trying to hype Petruzelli: “He’s a modern day Rocky Balboa!!!” Go to rehab,Jared.

I don’t buy the last minute switch as an excuse. Arlovsky and Nelson didn’t get much of a training camp in and I bet if they had been asked to fight Petruzelli because the other one got hurt, they would have taken it in a second and won easily.

If Kimbo was a real top fighter, he would not be afraid of a relatively unknown guy from a lower weight class. He was expecting to get a punchy Shamrock to lay down when he breathed hard on him and he got an average fighter and got scared and couldn’t handle himself.

Besides EliteXC and some fanboys on the internet, who ever said that Kimbo was a top fighter? In the interviews I had seen Kimbo and bas both said that he was just coming into this, that he was working his way up, etc etc. I really doubt that Kimbo was “scared.” That doesnt tend to lead somebody charging forward like a bull in a china shop. He was clearly not happy with the development but I dont think “scared” is the word for it. Somebody on another board said it best, I dont know which is scarier - the kimbo fanboys or the people who hate him beyond all rational reasoning.

I was at the fight. I would not want to be Kimbo after the knockout. The crowd turned on him quick.

The crowd though was full of douchebags with a chip on their shoulder and some of the hottest women I have ever seen. I swear they went around and picked up the best lookin women in Miami and bussed them in.

I don’t understand what it is about MMA that attracts so many “Jagger-Bombs” type guys.

Quite a few casual fans apparently, due to the hyped, biased, less than true statements put out by EliteXC. People are used to trusting sports commentators, because in say, the NFL, neither the commentators nor the NFL has a vested interest in the success of any one athlete or even team.

In other combat sports like boxing, the promotions themselves do not own the fighters so again, the commentators have no vested interest. A seasoned MMA fan might understand how absurd it is when EXC calls Kimbo “the Tiger Woods of MMA” or some nonsense like that and laugh it off, but why should a causal fan think that? There is no reason to unless you are familiar with how the contract system of MMA works.

People hate Kimbo and partially EXC for horribly botching our first foray into basic cable television and making MMA look like a bunch of thugs or prowrestlers.

It’s its culture of narcissism.

To me, those casual fans ARE fanboys. I’ve been completely honest on htis subforum about my 100% LACK of first-hand experience so I certainly wouldnt call myself a seasoned veteran - I am literally the exact demographic that so many hate, ie i got into it because of TUF … and yet I know whats up. I would honestly attribute the failure of the first show to first and foremost, piss poor production. How is it possible that EVERY EliteXC show runs over its slot when they DIDNT HAVE A SINGLE FIGHT GO 15 MINUTES?? pathetic, way too much down time. that leads me to. As far as individual fighters, baroni left a worse impression on me than kimbo. his entrance took longer than his fight

Eh, whatever, anyway, this almost deserves its own thread, call it karma, call it irony, call it unsurprising, call it cosmic justice, call it what you will, but here, this is great

cliff notes: eliteXC paid petruzelli to keep the fight standing, hahahhaahah

When I said causal fans I was referring to people for whom the free EXC show was the first (or one of the first) shows. These were the ones who went fucking wild with Kimbo love and claimed that he was the biggest, coolest guy in the world.

As for you being in the TUF noob demographic, ironically I think that the TUF folk have moved up in respectability.

There is a new batch of MORE ignorant folk in the mix.

I actually feel kinda bad for Kimbo. He was never the one claimimg to be the baddest dude walking. he’s just a guy with a natural ability to fight who has an interesting history who got exploited by those who saw dollar signs as he walked by. I hope he made some good money and didn’t blow it, 'cause his ride’s over.

Nice, I may be dumb, as long as Im not the dumbest

also, I was thinking about it, and in terms of announcers toeing the party line, the UFC’s are just as bad. It doesnt bother me that some think that anderson silva is the best p4p in the world, but done say that he’s the undisputed p4p, when theres a very very valid argument to be made for fedor

Sometimes people don’t understand when I say I hate MMA because of the fans. I guess it’s a strange thing to say- you don’t hear people not liking baseball because of the type of people that watch the games.

But the jagerbomb types… oh I hate them, and boxing is too complicated (or as they would say, boring) for them to pretend to understand. I feel bad for the hardcore MMA fans/practitioners like the ones on this board- you guys truly get overshadowed by those doucebags, and as long as they are the ones watching, the sport will never be taken seriously.

Hey Sifu, did you happen to teach Kung-Fu in Edmonton?

Kimbo never had an actual chance of making a name in MMA. All he was ever good for is beating chumps and bums in street fights (rather unimpressively I might add).

Elite XC needed a posterboy to promote their fighting organization and they thought Kimbo could do that with all of the buzz he was creating on the internet.

They would pit him against easy opponents and pave the way for their goldenboy, but I could have told you that some pink haired sissy would come along and knock him out. Maybe we won’t have to hear his name mentioned in the same sentence as MMA ever again.
