KIMBO Slice the Real Deal?

anyone watch this fight against thompson?

kimbo showed a more well rounded game and got the win in the end, he was fucking up thompson with some huge bombs.

i think with a little more conditioning and if he keeps improving his ground game then kimbo will have a terrific career.

Wa his game more well rounded? I haven’t seen more than one round out of him at a time, and I haven’t seen him on the ground until now, so can we really judge?

Sure, his punching power was there again. But against who? A guy with a glass jaw and a left ear with cauliflower ear so bad, every time he turned his head, that thing was flopping around like a flag in the breeze!

He did not defend against the single leg takedown too well, ending up in a half mount often. He let his arm get pinned by Thompson’s leg and was saved by the bell as Thompson was delivering some good elbows to the head.

I think the next level up, unless Kimbo really improves on the ground, will be where Kimbo finds his first defeat. Because now they are going to throw some real challenges at him. Every grappler is gunning for him now.

I do love watching him though. Kimbo is the Clubber Lang of MMA! I’m waiting for him to tell another fighter’s wife that she should be with a real man…

Kimbo is the man, but Thompson just put the blue print out on how to possibly beat him. No body in their right mind should stand toe to toe with Kimbo…I agree he will lose soon unless he gets much better with defense and on the floor combat.

KImbo is Clubber Lang, lol minus the feather earings, and the shredded back!

He is a bit old if I remember, so not sure how great of a career he has left. If they would have got him training much younger, they could have broken a lot of his bad street fighting habits. He is definitely a freak of nature in terms of genetics, but I don’t think he will EVER be a significant threat.

He is great to watch though and delivers devastating punches.

Kimbo is not Clubber lang, Brett Rogers is. Lets see those two fight.

shouldn’t this be in combat sports???

He looked pretty raw. I don’t think he will rise to the top of MMA. He looked in trouble against a low level “opponent” and judging by this fight and that street fight against the cop from Boston awhile ago, his conditioning and cardio suck.

that would be to logical.

He is a talent no doubt. But he will never be the best. Started his training too late.

well…think this was the maint event of a locaaal show…oh it was national tv…ahah…

im a huge kimbo fan, but he was exposed against thompson. he def has some kind of groundgame now but its far too weaksauce for top competition. brett rogers would have a field day with kimbo in full gaurd. but the best part is kimbo is actually humble and is still learning. i hope he grows from his win and keeps on impressing the haters.

If Kimbo’s manager was smart, he’d organize an media frenzy with Fedor Emelianenko around an event like this:

Of course that would be like Drago instead of Rocky  Best part is at 1:50.

Still this stuff is great to watch. I’m so glad it’s a national broadcast now; 10 years ago me and my Jeet Kune Do friends would have to get PPV events and rent DVD’s just to see a glimpse.

Fuck kimbo slice,Hes a joke.As far as im concerned anyone who likes this guy doesnt appreciate mma for what it is and should be.He might have a career fighting nobodys and has beens but he will never beat anyone elite.

the fact that hes been reffered to as the biggest thing in MMA disgusts me.Fedor is the biggest thing in MMA and most people dont even know who he is.

Thompson is a decent upgrade in talent in Kimbos opponent climb.

I still doubt they are going to put him up agains’s top talent just yet, they are going to try and milk him as undefeated a while longer.

Brett Rogers would fight similar to what Kimbo would do best against. Though I think he still is too dangerous to put Kimbo against just yet.

Kimbo showed that he could survive a fight and work around being taken down. Thompson has won 16 fights, so he has some ability to finish.

I would like to see Kimbo fight one more fight against a guy similar to Thompson and then finally cash in and see if the guy can brawl with a bigger name. He needs to develop his Knee strikes as too often he had him against the cage bent over and he could’ve ended it sooner.

Bas will have a better idea of what neds work after this fight, so I expect a big improvement next fight. Overall, it’s still early and he’s Mid 30’s. Max he has 5 years of fighting. If he ever becomes elite, he’ll only be there a short time.

I dont rate kimbo. He has a great punch and a iorn jaw which you cant see beneth the beard( which i think is bullshit). But as far as a quality all round fighter goes he is no good.

He has no ground game and doesnt seem to know how to knee or kick properly.

And lastly he has the snappest legs i have ever seen on a guy that big. has he spent the last 10 years in a wheel chair or what?

Honestly I think he’s about where he should be for someone who has fought 3 fights. He hits hard and has a lot of room for improvement.

If Kimbo wants to survive in mma he’s gonna really have to work on his conditioning and technical skills. He’s got a pathetic ground game. He was totally at Thompson’s mercy in the guillotine and on the ground. And I think the ref prematurely stopped the fight… Thompson was getting pounded but he was still standing.

You and everyone else are unquestionably right, but this was his 3rd fight. Kimbo’s biggest problem is that he has been marketed to be this unreal specimen of a fighter. Hell, even ESPN had a story comparing him to a young Tyson. Now, anyone who is an educated fight fan, or fighter, see’s that obviously he needs work in several areas.

But here’s a big clue, damn near every fighter with only 3 fights needs work in several areas. If Kimbo was any other fighter we’d be saying, “well the guy has weaknesses, but he has heart and put his punches together well.” Give him some time (somebody grab Shaw and tape his mouth shut) and he’ll be a decent fighter.

Lol… combine your 2nd and 3rd observations and you may see the light…

I think people are being overly critical of his ground game…did he get sub’d???..no he didn’t.
His ground game is a hell of a lot better than a lot of the heavyweights I’ve seen…he had nice reversals although was caught by Thompson against the fence when he trapped his arm. His game plan is to get up if he’s taken down…locking up legs and holding half gaurd does not necessitate this. With Bas Rutten in his corner…there is no way in hell he as no ground game.

OMC

I just finished watching all 3 rounds and my decision was that was bs. Kimbo showed no technical skills at all. In round 2 Thompson delivered 25 elbows straight (yes 25, according to Wikipedia) to Kimbo’s face while Kimbo was on the ground. The ref didn’t stop the fight but instead made both fighters stand… wtf? That last decision was controversial as hell.
