Deadlift - Pain Between Legs

Guys,

Today was deadlift day and it was the first time I felt minor pain (more like a sting) in the area between the testicles and the … ehm, anus area :). I don’t know the correct term in English (or latin) for this area but I suppose you know what Im talking about. Its the same area I sometimes feel slight pain or cramping when I hold my sneeze in.

Anything I should be worried about?

Stats - i’m 192 cm, 95 kg, 15% bodyfat, training seriously for about a year, now in my second 5/3/1 cycle. Deadlift in question was 3x5 @ 95 kg and I always try to do it without a belt or straps because I still feel fairly confident (I think my 1RM is around 120-140 KG)

Thanx!

Things to lookout for are

Inguinial hernias
Athletic pubalgia
FIA/hip impingement
Pelvic floor dysfunction

Now I’m not saying it will definitely be one of the above…
However, as far as heavy lifting and testicular pain are connected, the above are usually the most common

I’d refrain from any heavy lifting / core exercises until you have worked out the problem.
It would be best to see a doctor and/or a orthopedist If the problems pursue.

Out of curiosity , do you get any clicking / popping sensations in your pelvis?
Any pains in your hips, knees or lower back?
Are there any visible bulges in your abdomen?

I wish you all the best in getting this fixed as I know how it feels, I’m suffering from testicular pain related to groin problems myself

Hey man, thanks for the reply!

I see that here either no one is hurt  or guys dislike talking about some perineum pain.

There’s no clicking/popping withini my pelvis aside from that click in the hip every once in awhile, when it “sets in its place”. Or something a rather.

No pain in the hips, knees or lower back. I do have a broken knee which was fixated with two screws (surgery) which I’m supposed to take to the grave with me and it DOES bother me but I got used to it. Because of this incident and 2 months in bed, 6 mo with crutches I am all warped, right shoulder lower than left, hips probably rotated or something… But no, nothing I would relate to this or similar incident (heavy lifting).

No bulges in the abdomen (thank god).

In the meantime, to add to your list I also found about Pudenal nerve entrapment and Levator ani syndrome. Maybe one of these?

The problem with a “twisted hip” is it can cause pelvic floor dysfunction, which can cause prostate irritation , and testicular pain. Dead lifting and squatting too heavy / without proper form can cause this. You shouldn’t really be suffering from any clicking in your pelvis , despite how minor it feels.

As for the conditions you listed above, it’s possible.

If I were you I would refrain from doin any heavy deadlifts until you have a better understanding of the problem

Best thing for you to do is to speak to either a orthepedic doctor or your physio therapist.

Hope it all works out for you.

Ummmm yea… the problem is that in the place I live there are NO specialist personnel who are both into medicine as well as sports. Maybe 1 guy Im currently thinking of but I doubt I can reach him…

Most of the doctors I talked to told me to forget squats for good and do leg extensions instead (!) which leads me to the conclusion that they got absolutely no idea what they are talking about

sports hernia

Hey guys!

an update to the situation - I read and re-read Ripps section in the Starting Strength about the deadlift, along with a couple of articles here on TNation and I seem to have fixed the issue. I improved my deadlift form, lifted MORE weight and didnt have any problems since.

What seems to have coused the trouble was my retarded lowering of the weights. I train in a commercial gym so I cant really drop them but I have since my problem began decided to be a bit more agressive in the lowering stage.

No problems since!
