Title of thread explains the pain. I started a 5x5 about 6-7 weeks ago. This pain occurred last week. Sometimes it is just in the left lower back or sometimes on the left hip and groin down to my junk. Then there are times they all ache and are tender to the touch. I was icing and continue to lift. The pain is 24hrs and annoying. I had left inguinal hernia surgery three years ago. Does this just sound like a strained muscle? There does not appear to be a bulge like another hernia. But like I stated the area does ache down to the groin and leg meet and over to my junk. I was originally thinking hip flexor. But now I think it covers to much area. Thoughts? Experiences? Thanks
SI joint dysfunction can refer pain across the anterior hip/groin area and sometimes into the scrotum. If you’re currently squatting low-bar I would stop doing that for a while. Do you have an exaggerated curve in your low back? Are your quads chronically tight? I would find something geared towards reducing lower cross type posture and incorporate those exercises into what you’re doing.
I was alternating low bar squatting and free weight hack squat. Now I front squat. My quads are not typically tight. But I am doing TRT. And my injections are in alternating quads. So then are tight or swollen that day and the next. My back has normal curve and I have good posture. I have a feeling this back problem happened with standing overhead press. I think my back was curved and not straight when I tried to increase weight.

Could be back could be hip could be sports hernia, need more information about movements etc that describe the nature of your symptoms. what exacerbates it
All symptoms still exist. Even my left testicle will ache. Even climaxing during sex feels not the same. No swelling though. Nothing really makes it worse. It is just pretty constant ache. Kind of dull. The back aches more sitting or lying down. Hip and groin more standing. I still lift. But if it is not gone by Monday I will be seeing a doctor. To many varibles. Nuts may ache from TRT and no hcg. Or muscles could be inflaming a nerve. Who knows.

If you have experienced a change in bladder or bowel function, such as lack of control, dribbling, having to go very suddenly, or are experiencing numbness and or tingling in your groin, scrotum, perineum, or anus I would go to a walk in clinic or ER asap, those are red flag signs of Cauda Equina Syndrome which is a compression of the lumbar and sacral nerves before they leave the spinal canal. Etiology is not important, getting that rule out can save you from possible paralysis or other sequelae.
If it is one sided, just on the left, it is not cauda equina syndrome but you seem to be experiencing S3-5 dermatome symptoms which is not very common. Have you been doing lots of biking? Is there any pain with extension, especially if combined with sideflexion and rotation? (bending back, to the side, and twisting) How old are you? Do you have a family history of any illnesses?
Your first step is if you are experiencing cauda equina syndrome signs go to a walk in or ER. If not, I can try to help you hash out whats going on.
It is just my left side. But yesterday evening I had to drive my wife to an appointment. It was a 1 hour drive. My groin and left testicle was aching bad. Once there, we had to walk and the top of my left leg under my buttocks felt weird. Not pain just different like it tight/loose muscle. Today it is just a 4-5 inch band. It goes from my back above the hip around and follows groin to testicle then around back of leg under buttocks.
My back has been stiff. But I am touching toes like before. And I can stretch. I can just feel tightness in back muscles. My spine is fine. I think that it is sports hernia. Going to the doctor will suck. They will say quite lifting. Ice 3 times a day. Give some anti inflammatory drugs. Then I will follow up and they will recommend physical therapy. Lifting does not cause it to hurt more. Actually it might even feel better. I think I will grind it out until it hurts to lift.
dzmendon, are you a licensed medical provider? Your responses have typically been very thorough.
OP, don’t think of a trip to a doc as sucking. Even if your treatment ends up being as you depicted you will have the peace of mind that you aren’t doing anything to make the situation worse. Radiating and referred pain is concerning and should be assessed professionally. As said before, certain things should be ruled out as they are potentially life altering conditions. Getting strong is a long term endeavor. Backing off for a few weeks or a few months won’t harm anything in the long run. No need to risk something serious.

It sounds like a sacral neuropathy… I still have to recommend you see a doctor. The list of things that could be wrong is huge.

Almost. I study Athletic Therapy (canadian equivalent of an athletic trainer) but I need to wait a year and finish my degree before I can attempt our national exam. I just finished a placement in a private physiotherapy clinic and they are very, very thorough. Thank you for the compliment! You are a chiropractor, if I recall?
Thanks guys for all replies. I lifted yesterday. And believe it or not I feel the best today in two weeks. The pain in the groin is 99% gone. My back has a little ache. But everything feels much better. I changed my front squat to a hack. Did DB bench and bent over rows. Ache is only at outside of back down to hip. But no longer wrapping around.
Never went to doctor. Pain slowly subsided. My back will occasionally get stiff or ache is slept on wrong or twisted. But overall much better. Old age, out of shape, and doing to much was the cause. Now dealing with reoccurring tendonitis of right elbow. I think I am over extending my arm on overhead press.
This happens to me all the time. Usually after some tough leg work outs. Typically it is due to tight muscles in the glutes, mainly the periformis muscles that tighten. Look into stretches for the periformis muscles. The pain in the testicle is most likely referred pain from the muscles tightening. Once the muscles loosen, you will notice the pain reduce and disappear.
Otherwise, get it checked out.
For the reoccurring tendonitis of right elbow, get some heavy duty rubber bands, wrap them around your fingers and do some extensions. The extending muscles are weaker than the gripping muscles causing an imbalance. Once you strengthen the top forearm muscles, you will find relief. Sorry if this sounds confusing, I am trying to keep it very simple.
