Curing the Imaginary Lats Syndrome

Same here, I only recently started working directly arms because I firmly believed in the fact that I wasn’t big enough to do direct tricep/bicep work and that bench pressing and chinups would work my arms enough.

However, after reading more and more Westside articles, I realized that direct tricep work is definitely needed, especially if you want to increase your bench. I was just wondering whether you’ve seen big gains in your lifts after doing direct arm work?
I’m at the point with strength where I don’t think I need to increase it. I don’t have a reliable spotter so big pressing or squatting is out of the question for me. I’ve made drastic changes to my lifting style because the stregnth lust is gone.

I will say that repping is A LOT smoother though.

Yeah, I see that often in guys who ignore triceps work to focus more on biceps. It is usually a muscle imbalance that causes that. I remember mine used to do that when I first started training. It stopped when I started training RIGHT.
I saw yoou replied to me and braced myself for a drop curl joke.

You’re right though, I’ve only this year started doing actual arm work. I figure its one of those overuse things from all the pulling people towards me.
I was being completely straight up. I ONLY see that in guys who mostly only train biceps or ignore direct work for BOTH muscle groups.
Since January I’ve actually followed through with arm work on both Bi’s and Tri’s. So in total, my direct arm work is only 7 months. I’d normally blow offmy arm days toally up until last winter. Its gotten a lot better since I’ve started treating my arms like muscles and not “hooks”.

WTF dude, why does everyone fuck with you so much? lol Like, I’ve made a few Prof jokes but actually attacking you? Holy Hell!!!
I don’t get it either. It is like some of these guys really are this ridiculous in real life…either that or they are fucking sociopaths because following me around like this is some creepy shit.

They really seem to think they are right though which means something is off.
I think a lot of it is rooted in envy. Its a bitch trait, ya know. lol

The rest of them are batshit crazy.

Its also why we like fucking women that work out. We need to fuck small women so our tiny cocks seem massive…and because thyre are easy to dominate…because we hate women…our moms never hugged us.

I think that this is the British culture lol.

Anything other than good manners/politeness, being soft with discipline etc is perceived as hostile.

I believe that when the Romans invaded England, it must have gone something like this:

English man: Who’s there?
Roman soldier: Arggg, let me in! pushes past
English man: Oh, sorry, please do come in…would you like a cup of tea?
Roman soldier: proceeds to rape English man’s wife
English man: Erm…excuse me fellow, I don’t mean to be terribly rude, but could you kindly please stop doing that?

Why…are they mentally unstable?

Not only did you fuckers kill the funny ass joke at the beginning, but you dug up the corpse, violated it sexually, dressed it in a tutu, urinated on it, brought it back to life through some Frankenstein like procedure, allowed it to endure the pain of humiliation of all the things you did to it, murdered it again, then proceeded to shoot it in the face with high caliber weapons.

For shame…

Yes.

Seriously, stand up straight. It’s something I’m fixing now and realising just how much I used to slouch before. You can do rear delt work and some lower trap stuff to help, but it’s mostly something you’ve got to conciously change in the way you hold yourself day to day.

I’m noticing a difference in my lifts as well, curls are a lot harder now I’m not rounding my upper back, but I feel them a lot more in my biceps. My front squats have got a lot more solid since I’ve learned to keep properly upright and my upper back is gradually feeling better in general.

OP and co, figure out how to stand up straight (I have to focus around the back of my delts - use a mirror), and then do that for a period of months.

I had the same thing man, I wrestled for a long ass time. While my arms didnt make it look like i had ILS, i just looked like a jackass with fucked up arms. I started crushing my triceps and my arms look a shit load better. Did you wrestle heavyweight?

months=years and then you’ve accomplished something. to summarize bodybuilding, yes you can isolate every muscle. Always stand up straight, always put in extra effort, always jelq

lol, you are so fucking delusional. Following you around? News flash chief, you have 30 thousand posts, you post in every single thread, I can’t read these forums without seeing something written by this douche bag. And its always the same jerkoff bullshit.

You are the dentist that calls himself a doctor. You act like youre some badass thug from the hood where you had to fight for your life against genetic freaks growing up. You turned a thread where someone asked you for help into a giant shit storm. You throw the race card constantly. You take everything personally. You are ‘that guy’.

The fact that multiple people feel the need to call you out on the internet says something. If you act like this in real life, you are the only ridiculous one here.

LOL at “internet diagnosis” from “random internet guy”.

It is much more likely the OP is as clueless as everyone who does this for no reason. Unless you are carrying size damn near like a IFBB pro, put your arms down.
Read the OP a little more closely, he states ‘If I force my elbows in, it feels uncomfortable.’

If you have a better explanation for the elbows involuntarily sticking out other than internal rotation, post it.
I just fucking did. There is a reason no doctor worth anything would try to diagnose someone based on nothing but what they say is wrong with no visual examination. The most likely cause is the guy has bad posture and/or acts much like the guys in that vid posted. Most people like this don’t even think they look silly until others point it out.

As soon as you take a close visual look at the kid, THEN you can unload your extremely specific diagnosis over the fucking internet.

What are your credentials?
I intentionally used the word ‘guessing’ when responding. My purpose was to offer a viable explanation, and not to provide any kind of diagnosis. This should be understood and not have to be explicitly stated when responding to a request for assistance in an online forum.
Wait, so you were serious? As in, that WASN’T excellent use of third-tier sarcasm?

Truly lame.

excellent vid and also a funny story from Akuma!

I see this mostly with younger men who are perhaps excited at having some muscularity at last and want to make the ‘most of it’. I saw a kid, about 18-20 i guess, some time back storming through a mall in a tank top (of course!). It wasn’t that he had no muscles, he looked modestly athletic/muscular, it was the ‘hard man’ expression and the arms out, as bad as in the video, it looked like a joke except i think it was for real. Needless to say the looks he got probably weren’t what he hoped for.

I wonder what happens to an ILSer when they walk past the real thing? (maybe akuma/prof/others seen it from the other side…)
In my experience, they suddenly react by Flaring their traps up and tilting their head back, while attempting to get my eye attention by nodding at me. Le sigh…
i thought they’d feel ‘caught out’ but it seems they want to be your buddy instead!

They try and make friends with me, so they can ask me stuff. Then after they ask a question, and i start telling them the answer they dont want to hear, they respond with what they’re doing, as if it changes the fact that what they’re doing isnt doing jack shit.

They seem to be the ones concerned about my penis so I am just being a good neighbor and showing my concern for HIS penis. I hope his penis is ok.
