I think you’ve dropped subtle hints about that once or twice in the past. I can’t say I blame you though, I really dig chicks and all but I’d almost consider putting out for Chuck in all his purple and neckless glory.

When I saw that episode I had no idea the guy was based on a real person, cracked me up when I found out.

I really think there are four things that could get powerlifting to surpass crossfit culturally.

 1. Get Raw powerlifting into the Olympics. People go crazy over the olympics and they will be screaming curse words at the television while a U.S. lifer is lifting. Keep it raw to keep it simple.

 2. Make a movie about the life of a powerlifting great either fictional or one such as Ed Coan.

 3. Hot chicks! Young guys like hot chicks, old guys like hot chicks, and even some hot chicks like hot chicks. Let us bring them in. Maybe sponsorship by Hooters? It will make us look a little pervy, but we will have hot chicks, so who really cares?

 4. Make powerlifting a school sport. This is an easy step because as a school sport many other sports already want their athletes to be strong so it will do the work for them. Also as young men, and some women, these kids will be very competitive, so competing against themselves and others would be very enticing. A current equivalent would be track which is very popular in schools from what I have seen.
Ed Coan lifted in gear and failed several drug tests. Why would he be your pick to represent the history of a sport that you want to see in the olympics?
Well it was not in connection with the Olympics idea, but I guess if all of those ideas were to happen, it would make more sense to pick a raw guy. I mainly picked him because everyone in powerlifting knows he was a badass, Louie Simmons would be a great choice too. I can not think of any American raw lifting legends.
As for the failed drug tests, I think performance enhancing drugs are a large part of powerlifing and to leave them out of a film trying to get people into the sport would be reckless.

Haha I wish, squat + deadlift I am. I really wanna try some of these crossfit timed drills during the summer, do something like that ex-NFL player did and see how my conditioning is

Mike Tuscherer should be the face of raw lifting. Drug free and stil the best raw lifter in the world IMO.

I own a CrossFit affiliate. And I am a non competitive powerlifter, weightlifter, CrossFitter. I say I am non competitive, because I do it for myself. As alot of other people do too. I am a former competitive powerlifter and have abandoned the sport because of all of the shit that is and will always be argued about on here. Now I squat for me and me only. I snatch and clean and do stupid kipping pullups and all of the other gay shit us CrossFitters do. But I no longer do concentration curls, or tricep kick backs, or leg extensions. I think that is a good thing.

My gym has zero treadmills, zero mirrors, and zero Zumba classes, 11 squat racks, thousands of pounds of iron and bumper plates, 4 GHD’s, 1 reverse hyper, texas power bars, platforms, bands, chains, prowler etc. Lot’s of other CrossFit gyms do too.

I have said this before and will say it again. CrossFit is a sport. There are lots of differnt levels of abilities in sports fellas. I fucking suck at basketball, I make it look like an absolute joke. What does that say about basketball? Nothing. Watch the best of the best CrossFitters and you will see why it deserves respect, just like the best of the best in any sport.

I have a 110 kilo snatch, 142 kilo clean, 470 lb back squat, 525 lb deadlift, 220 lb strict press, 25 strict pullups and am pretty darn good at alot of shit I never would have thought I would be good at since starting CrossFit. I know how my numbers stack against other 190 lb raw lifters. I am not going to set any records, but I like still being relatively strong and being athletic enough to do handstand pushups, muscle ups and other “Gay shit.”

I am not trying to win anyone over here, but the absolute ingnorance and arrogance of some of you guys is exactly what you say you hate about CrossFit. Most of you have no idea what you are talking about. I guess most of you don’t want to know and that is okay. I don’t want to know the in’s and out’s of water polo but I respect the hell out of people who play it. Mostly because I try not to be an egotistical prick.

Nice gym fatso.

Why does no one post vids like this regarding CrossFit. I will tell you why, they are not funny, they are only impressive.

^^ Cool story bro…

No honestly I have respect for the top level CF competitors, plus girls that excel at CF are ridiculously attractive.

However, and this is a big however, I hate how the majority look super small and so on, prime example is that kid in the above video, great snatches, but I would hate to work so hard in the gym and look like that.

I have seen plenty of examples of good builds from the sport, I respect it but its not my thing. Being that I am opening up a gym eventually I may have to be open to it.

Fatty that is impressive but… The thing is that he says he weighs 225lbs (102ish kg). Any competitive oly lifter in the 94 or 105 class can snatch 135kgs with no problem. So while he is undoubtedly in great shape and very strong, he looks mediocre compared to people who actually snatch.

The 56kg record for men is 137kg, which is more than the 295 he did and at just over half his bodyweight. Women in the olympics have snatched more, hell a 69kg Chinese lady snatched 128kg (282). So people claiming these guys are elite in these lifts are wrong and the public reaction (of amazement) to this “eliteness” is unjustified imo.

You mad bro?

CrossFit programming is retarded btw, there is no way anybody is going to try and explain the programming of the WOD. 3 on 1 off complete as man spinal spasms in 2 minutes followed by 100 max effort deadlifts for 2 minutes…fucking brilliant.

If I wanna watch snatches - I’ll watch olympic weightlifters, who are, ya know, best at them.

If i wanna watch jumping rope - I’ll go to the near kidnergarden and watch kids<10 years old be so fast with the rope that they can run circles around that dude

If I wanna see ripped dudes - I’ll go to a bbing show

If I wanna watch a fast sprint - I’ll watch sprinters

If I wanna watch endurance - I’ll watch distance runners

If I wanna watch some lanky self-entitled fitness hipster being mediocre at all those things…yup, I’ll watch crossfit then.

Clearly, as STB pointed out - the people who win some of these national level games are probably amazing athletes, because to be a great athlete you have to be good at everything and kick ass at one thing. Something tells me these dudes would be kicking ass at a lot of other sports, not just crossfit - they destroy competition cause they are fine physical specimens, not cause crossfit build oh-so-great skills for them. Problem with crossfit is…they do NOT kick ass at that one thing!

Fatso - if I were in the fitness business I’d also be running a crossfit establishment duh - it brings well-off paying customer base and I get good $$$ from them EVERY MONTH! Just…don’t try to sell us the kool-aid of what a magical community and panacea it is, mkay? Stick to that it is a good business and we understand that

Here is where everyone gets it wrong. This is ONE event out of 6. He is good at snatches, not great compared to a weightlifter. He is doing 20 double unders just to buy in to have the opportunity to snatch, and he has to snatch 10 more lbs every 50 seconds. This is not competitive weightlifting. It is CrossFit which involves weightlifting. He also has to be able to do a shit ton more to win his region, which he did by the way, in order to go to the games.

I think the reason most people on here don’t like CrossFit is because they think it will take away from their given strength sport by letting others that are less “qualified” and less talanted compete in it. I guess I get that. But when someone on the boards starts a race to 315 deadlift thread most of you guys get it and are supportive, because it is “powerlifting” maybe not as strong as you, but it is still powerlifting.

What I like about CrossFit is that I can do all the stufff I am interested in in the gym and call it something. I like when strength athletes are diverse. Probably why I like Koklaev more than any other athlete. He may noy be the best powerlifter or weightlifter or strongman or highland games athlete, but he is the BEST powerlifter/weightlifter/strongman/highland games athlete.

Like I said I am not trying to convert anyone here to do CrossFit or think it’s the best sport ever, just have enough respect for the people who do it to at least call it a sport. I have seen my fair share of assholes in the gym, and CrossFit has them, just like Powerlifting, bodybuilding, and any other sport has them.

Any high level CrossFit athlete knows where they stand in regards to their strength levels against world class strength specialists. They are generally not the ones who are boastfull about what they do, it is from guys like me who are impressed by their diversity.

Funny, I have been doing CrossFit for 5 years and have never done that workout. Did you make it up? I think I’ll try it.

Kenny powers said it well.

I’ll go on the record again as a guy that treats hurt people kipping pullups are dumb as are high rep Olympic lifts.
That said , do what you want. It doesn’t matter if I think it’s stupid , if you enjoy it , fine. But I also doubt I’ll change my mind.

I don’t understand all the CF hatred. People being active is always a good thing. Although there’s no excuse for really poor form with light weights.
