Crossfit vs Bodybuilding

gotta agree with my friend who told me all photos, videos and anywhere else you see a crossfitter, new, to it or a vetern at it is way more in shape looking than the bodybuilder at the same level. i could care less as a cyclist, but i looked into this a bit and agree. every crossfit athlete i see looks lean and fit looking and EVERYONE has a 6pak. they just look the part of an athlete. SOME bodybuilders look big and great, but hats the guys on the cover of magazines.

the normal guy that too up crossfit a year ago already has a 6pak and is lean and in shape. the bodybuilder guy looks bulky and non athletic. now, this is from what i seen at a local regular gym vs a crossfit gym, and in youtube videos and photos…the MAJORITY of crossfit athletes look way fitter than the bodybuilder. FROM WHAT I SEEN…when i get time i’m gonna look into what these crossfit guys and gals do vs what the bodybuilders do for training…i seen first hand at two different gyms in my area.the crossfit people are way better built than the bodybuilders.

i personally think the crossfit people train hard and eat well, vs the bodybuilder who trains hard and eats a ton to wanna get as big as a house.plus the workouts. bodybuilders arnt running a 5k and doing rowing for 20 minutes. i seen some walk the treadmill for 3 minutes then lift… and the top crossfitters look like a middleweight big time bodybuilder, maybe not as cut, but not far off…gotta chech this out more…

Well, that settles that then…

(can someone tell me what this post is about? I got that OP has seen something…)

At the crossfit gym next to my work most of the guys are skinny or pudgy (including the guy who runs it). And yes, they train hard.

Outside of the top competitors in the crossfit games, who most assuredly aren’t really doing “crossfit” (and who may be running gear), I see very few remarkable physiques that do crossfit exclusively …

I’ve mentioned that I did it exclusively for 2 years and definitely lost muscle mass and strength - one of my biggest training regrets, and two years down the drain

So good luck

ITT - OP values DEM ABZZZZ over mass or total physique.

While aesthetics are obviously somewhat subjective, there is (far) more to a good or athletic physique than just abs. This becomes more apparent once you understand the level of dedication and commitment it takes to add any real amount of mass. Getting cut is easy, getting big is not. Getting big AND cut is why IFBB pro’s get sponsored.

Plus, as the saying goes: abs on a skinny guy are like tits on a fat girl…they don’t count. And I’m saying this as a somewhat skinny with abs, who is trying to get bigger.

The top row is the top 3 finishers at last year’s CrossFit Games. The bottom row is a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finisher at last year’s WNBF (natural bodybuilding) World championships. So, there’s that.

That’s your personal opinion, so that’s fine. But you’ve also made your general opinions of bodybuilding, bodybuilders, and this site in particular known on plenty of occasions. We get it, you don’t like bodybuilding or bodybuilders. At all. Yet you keep posting here.

Bodybuilding is not about “getting as big as a house.” Plenty of bodybuilders (competitive or recreational) avoid focusing on ‘size, size, and more size.’

You’re judging a fish for its ability to climb trees. The average bodybuilder or Crossfitter would lose to an arm wrestler of equal experience, but that means nothing.

Absofuckinglutely not. See above pic for reference. I can find more pics, but you’d only look sillier. Stick to your own personal opinion instead of making absurd analogies.

I guess if you like doing 100 kipping pullups crossfitting is for you.

But if you wanna do military accepted pullups with +100lbs added weight you should consider bodybuilding.

conditioning forum isnt it? i use to run, now i bicycle race. i’m not a bodybuilder nor crossfitter… dont want to be either… just commenting on what was pointed out to me… all i worry about is getting faster on my bike…

When I took a quick look at the photos you posted, I thought the first one of Froning was you! I thought, “Damn, Colluci’s been hitting it hard lately!” Then, I read the caption.

A cyclist should appreciate the specialization of the bodybuilder over the frenzied GPP of crossfit. Cyclists aren’t exactly well-rounded physically from what I’ve seen. How many pullups does the OP do? Admire CF all you want, but I doubt they will return the favor to a cyclist. You have less in common with them than a bodybuilder does.

Damn! That was worth repeating!

Ha. Thanks… I think?? Definitely pretty funny though, seeing it right next to my avatar.

I just can’t get over this seen word…

Regardless of sports orientation, neither group looks appealing to the average eye, except maybe the bodybuilder in the middle. Just a random thought.

Its like comparing biking and running. Its apples & oranges. If you like the crossfit, good for you! If you’re a bodybuilder or powerlifter, great! I think the more ways we can keep people active and fit is excellent. I don’t see a big negative in anything that people enjoy and is benefiting their lives.

While I agree there is no doubt a bodybuilder has the better physique when it comes to bb’er vs. x’fitter, you have to admit you chose probably the 3 most horrible pictures you could possibly find of those 3 guys and 3 of probably the best pictures you could find of the 3 bb’ers. Right away I can see the xfitters pictures are practically whited out which cuts out their definition, and the 2 on the right look like they are completely relaxed and not posing for anything for aesthetic purposes.

Do you really think those 2 on the top right look that bad? What’s his name in the middle on the top I know looks wayyyyyy better than the pic you are giving him credit for here. And you can hardly see rich because his picture is entirely whited out. Not really fair and I think you knew that.

Totally not. Sorry, but no.

I looked for “casual” pics from all the guys, not super-posing and not mid-lift/training (since those typically make anyone look better since everything’s flexed).

I’m not saying they look bad. I was just disputing the OP’s statements:
“every crossfit athlete i see looks lean and fit looking and EVERYONE has a 6pak. they just look the part of an athlete. SOME bodybuilders look big and great, but hats the guys on the cover of magazines”

“the MAJORITY of crossfit athletes look way fitter than the bodybuilder”

“and the top crossfitters look like a middleweight big time bodybuilder, maybe not as cut, but not far off”

Jason Khalipa.

Ha. Again, no, there’s no conspiracy. But alright, is this better? Understanding that they’re the same height and Froning is at least 15 pounds heavier than the bodybuilder.

Cross fit athletes have more manageable muscles they can maneuver more in different sports where as now days body builders seem just very bulky I always thought Frank Zane having the best body as mister olympia his body seemed very practical with the muscle distinction and the appropriate ass according to his body frame he in my opinion was mister symmetry.

and the appropriate ass ??? Whut?
